# Danny Silk
**Summary.** A leadership figure at Bethel Church (Redding, CA) and founder of the "Loving on Purpose" ministry. Author of *Culture of Honor* (2009) and *Unpunishable* (2019). In the 2026 Welton exposé he is the central institutional actor: he chaired Jonathan Welton's restoration board while simultaneously writing a book whose two flagship "restoration done right" case studies were Jonathan Welton and Ben Armstrong (Source: Bethel's Book Platformed a Wolf and Silenced His Victims (YouTube exposé video)).
## The *Unpunishable* critique
The video's core analytical claim is that *Unpunishable* is not restoration theology but a **coverup vehicle**:
- It **equivocates** on the word *punishment* — collapsing protective consequence (loss of platform, loss of access to the vulnerable) into retributive harm, so any consequence reads as "punishment paradigm."
- It defines repentance **behaviorally** (apology, tears, marriage intact) rather than **structurally** (restored relationships with victims, restitution, externally verified change, removal from enabling conditions).
- It used **Karen Welton as the barometer** of Jonathan's restoration — over a board member's explicit objection — and declared restoration **without consulting victims**.
> [!contradiction]
> *Unpunishable* presents a false dilemma: either the "punishment paradigm" or full restoration to ministry. The third option — forgiveness as soul-care **plus** permanent removal from positions of trust **plus** restitution — is structurally invisible to the book's frame. Mainline pastoral practice names exactly that third option.
## Conflict of interest
Silk owned the intellectual property whose thesis required Welton's restoration to succeed. When a second psychologist resigned saying Welton had not changed, Silk dissolved the board and declared restoration anyway.
