# Holly Pivec **Summary.** Evangelical author, journalist, and apologist focused on the New Apostolic Reformation. With R. Douglas Geivett she co-wrote *A New Apostolic Reformation? A Biblical Response to a Worldwide Movement* (Baker Books), *God's Super-Apostles*, and *Counterfeit Kingdom* (B&H, 2022). She produces video interviews examining NAR claims about prophecy, apostolic authority, and the supernatural. Tradition: evangelical / cessationist-leaning critique from outside the NAR. (Biographical specifics beyond her published work are unconfirmed here — source-caution.) ## What the wiki has - **NAR working definition and critique** — developed in Pivec & Geivett, *A New Apostolic Reformation?*: the 5-criteria apostle test, apostolic-authority submission logic, the accountability gap, soaking music as NAR worship practice, and the Destiny Image publisher network. - **Prophecy-testing rubric and the New Age parallel** — in *Counterfeit Kingdom* (2022) she and Geivett supply the wiki's affirmative prophecy-testing rubric (the Orthodoxy / Lifestyle / Fulfillment tests, "evidence first, then belief"), argue Bethel-style gift "activation" mirrors New Age technique, and name the "want it both ways" double standard behind NAR prophetic unaccountability (COVID as the worked example). - **Occult/prophetic power claims** — in "Does Satan Give Psychics Real Power?" she interviews a Christian magician and presses the question of whether demons confer real secret knowledge to psychics and self-described prophets; the framing offers a naturalistic alternative (cold reading, base rates) to a demonic-power explanation. - **NAR teaching and mental health** — in "Is NAR Theology Fueling Your Anxiety?" (EP 35) she interviews a biblical counselor on how NAR "name it and claim it" / outcome-control theology fuels anxiety and depression. The episode's sharpest contribution is the duty-vs-outcome contrast ("Duty is ours, the results are God's") set directly against word-of-faith control logic. Source-caution: the biblical-counseling model it endorses carries its own contestable "anxiety = unbelief/sin" framing with documented pastoral harm (see Religious Trauma). - **NAR as attention capture, and the dominion gospel stated plainly** — in "Are Your Church's Teachings Distracting You From Jesus?" (a second episode with the *Reminded* counselor) the argument shifts from what NAR teaches to what it *consumes*: rebuking spirits, getting declarations worded "just right," pouring anointing oil into the ground, burying communion elements — an unfalsifiable task list whose failures are never scored, read against Martha in Luke 10 as distraction from Jesus. Her own contribution is the wiki's crispest statement of the gospel-completion move: NAR grants that forgiveness comes through the cross, then calls that an *incomplete* gospel, the complete one being that the cross made it possible "to take dominion, to take social political control of the earth." (See Dominionism, Seven Mountain Mandate.) ## Position Pivec treats NAR teachings as a doctrinal and pastoral problem, testing prophetic and apostolic claims against Scripture and, where relevant, against controlled evidence. She sits within the broader evangelical critique alongside Mike Winger and the Pivec & Geivett book; her lens is more cessationist than the ex-charismatic discernment voices on the New Apostolic Reformation page. Her recovery-side work (EP 35) extends the critique from doctrine into mental-health mechanisms. ## Related - New Apostolic Reformation · Fallible Prophecy · Spiritual Warfare Theology · Religious Trauma · Dominionism · [[readwise-nar-pivec-geivett|A New Apostolic Reformation?
