Underlying tension Love covers a multitude of sins but covering things that need dealt with still matters. Wounds undealt with fester. If you cover something broken, it gets worse and must be broken again to heal properly. The Bible is a story of how God interacts with man. Isaiah tells the story of God in 1 book. 66 chapters/books. 39 chapters are judgement, 27 are about the hope, much like OT/NT. 700 yrs before Jesus = prophecy. [Isaiah 1:1-4](https://www.bible.com/bible/8/ISA.1.1-4) [[Bible/AMP/Isaiah/Isa 1#1|Isa 1,1-4]] The vision of [the prophet] Isaiah the son of Amoz concerning [the kingdom of] Judah and [its capital] Jerusalem, which he saw [as revealed by God] during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. Hear, O heavens, and listen, O earth; For the LORD has spoken: "I have reared and brought up sons, But they have rebelled against Me _and_ have broken away. "The ox [instinctively] knows its owner, And the donkey its master's feeding trough, But Israel does not know [Me as LORD], My people do not understand." Ah, sinful nation, A people loaded down with wickedness [with sin, with injustice, with wrongdoing], Offspring of evildoers, Sons who behave corruptly! They have abandoned (rejected) the LORD, They have despised the Holy One of Israel [provoking Him to anger], They have turned away from Him. [[Bible/AMP/Isaiah/Isa 1#2|]] [[Bible/AMP/Isaiah/Isa 1#3|]] [[Bible/AMP/Isaiah/Isa 1#4|]] Sin drives us away from the right way of living and do whatever we want. It destroys us. It feels good but isnβ€˜t good for you. A people whose shame is like an overwhelming burden. Under the surface or tension of my unwilllingness to say β€œIβ€˜m sorryβ€œ - we all have this sin problem. Broken relationship. Isaiah means Yahweh is salvation or God to the rescue. [Isaiah 1:5-6](https://www.bible.com/bible/8/ISA.1.5-6) [[Bible/AMP/Isaiah/Isa 1#5|Isa 1,5-6]] Why should you be stricken _and_ punished again [since no change results from it]? You [only] continue to rebel. The whole head is sick And the whole heart is faint _and_ sick. From the sole of the foot even to the head There is nothing healthy in the nation's body, Only bruises, welts, and raw wounds, Not pressed out or bandaged, Nor softened with oil [as a remedy]. [[Bible/AMP/Isaiah/Isa 1#6|]] You are so sick, and you hurt so much, that you canβ€˜t rescue yourself or clean up your own mess. [Isa 1:11](https://www.bible.com/bible/8/ISA.1.11) [Isa 1:13-14](https://www.bible.com/bible/8/ISA.1.13-14) [[Bible/AMP/Isaiah/Isa 1#10|Isa 1,11-14]] Hear the word of the LORD [rulers of Jerusalem], You rulers of [another] Sodom, Listen to the law _and_ instruction of our God, You people of [another] Gomorrah. "What are your multiplied sacrifices to Me [without your repentance]?" Says the LORD. "I have had enough of [your] burnt offerings of rams And the fat of well-fed cattle [without your obedience]; And I take no pleasure in the blood of bulls or lambs or goats [offered without repentance]. "When you come to appear before Me, Who requires this of you, this trampling of My [temple] courts [by your sinful feet]? "Do not bring worthless offerings again, [Your] incense is repulsive to Me; [Your] New Moon and Sabbath [observances], the calling of assemblies-- I cannot endure wickedness [your sin, your injustice, your wrongdoing] and [the squalor of] the festive assembly. [[Bible/AMP/Isaiah/Isa 1#11|]][[Bible/AMP/Isaiah/Isa 1#12|]][[Bible/AMP/Isaiah/Isa 1#13|]] You are not the hero of your story. We are both the victim and the villain. We caused it and we need a victor to get out of it. The King promised to rescue those He loves. A day comes when He comes to rescue us. Christmas is the story that He loves us and came to rescue us. What destroys us has been destroyed. We wait for all the wrong to be made right. We believe in Jesus but live in a world that is still broken. [Isa 1:18](https://www.bible.com/bible/8/ISA.1.18) [[Bible/AMP/Isaiah/Isa 1#17|Isa 1.18]] Learn to do good. Seek justice, Rebuke the ruthless, Defend the fatherless, Plead for the [rights of the] widow [in court]. Come and settle this once and for all. Choose your own story: 1. Pay for it yourself 2. God will take it on. Accept the beautiful exchange. Pure white garments. The messiah is coming. Though our sins are like scarlet, they will be made white as snow. Preach the Gospel to yourself every day. I am a mess. [[Bible/MSG/Isaiah/Isa 1|Isa 1]] I canβ€˜t save myself. Jesus came to take on the penalty of sins. All who believe in Him are forgiven. He has triumphed over sin and death. I do not earn or deserve it. He loves. [Isa 1:19](https://www.bible.com/bible/8/ISA.1.19) [[Bible/TLV/Isaiah/Isa 1#16|Isa 1,18-20]] "Wash and make yourselves clean. Put away the evil of your deeds from before My eyes. Cease to do evil. Learn to do good, seek justice, relieve the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow." "Come now, let us reason together," says _Adonai_. "Though your sins be like scarlet, they will be as white as snow. Though they be red like crimson, they will become like wool.
