## Call to Worship
*adapted from Feasting on the Word Worship Companion*
We are children of God, learning to walk.
**Day by day, we are learning to be the church.**
God is a loving parent, teaching us to walk.
**God loves us, leads us, and feeds us.**
God is with us on the journey.
**God is with us when we go off course.**
God is with us when we're joyful and when we're lonely.
**God is with us near and far.**
Come, let us journey with God and one another!

## Opening Prayer
*adapted from Feasting on the Word Worship Companion*
Jesus Christ, teach us to pray, and to trust the hospitality of God for our daily bread. Our ancestors relied on you, eating manna in the wilderness, knowing that you provide even when we go the long way, taking the scenic route. Let us offer others hospitality, seeking to welcome them into our shared journey. God gives the gift of the Holy Spirit to us and helps us to share good gifts with those who are in need. May this time of worship honor you, as we go together on a road trip in faith. Amen.

## Responsive Reading
*Psalm 138* (NRSVue)
I give you thanks, O God, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise;
**I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness; for you have exalted your name and your word above everything.**
On the day I called, you answered me, you increased my strength of soul.
**All the rulers of the earth shall praise you, O God, for they have heard the words of your mouth.**
They shall sing of the ways of God, for great is the glory of God.
**For though God is high, God regards the lowly; but the haughty God perceives from far away.**
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies; you stretch out your hand, and your mighty hand delivers me.
**God will fulfill God’s purpose for me; your steadfast love, O God, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.**

## Scripture Reading
**Luke 11:1-13** (NRSVue)
*Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples." He said to them, "When you pray, say:*
**‘Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us. And do not bring us to the time of trial.’”**
*And he said to them, "Suppose one of you has a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him.’ And he answers from within and says, ‘Do not bother me; the door is already locked, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything.’ I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will get up and give him whatever he needs.*
*So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.*
*Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for a fish, will give a snake instead of a fish? Or if the child asks for an egg, will give a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"*

## Hymn #278 (insert)
*We Are Travelers on a Journey*
1. We are travelers on a journey, fellow pilgrims on the road;
we are here to help each other walk the mile and bear the load.
I will hold the Christ-light for you in the night-time of your fear;
I will hold my hand out to you, speak the peace you long to hear.
2. Sister, let me be your servant, let me be as Christ to you;
pray that I may have the grace to let you be my servant, too.
Brother, let me be your servant, let me be as Christ to you;
pray that I may have the grace to let you be my servant, too.
3. I will weep when you are weeping, when you laugh, I’ll laugh with you;
I will share your joy and sorrow, till we’ve seen this journey through.
When we sing to God in heaven, we shall find such harmony,
born of all we’ve known together of Christ’s love and agony.
