# A Closed Validation Loop Cannot Detect Its Own Errors
## Claim
When the people confirming a claim and the people the claim benefits are the same set, the system has no mechanism for noticing it is wrong, however sincere everyone in it is.
<!-- atomicity: 1 idea ✓ -->
## Scope & conditions
- Holds wherever validation is internal and no party outside the arrangement can withhold confirmation. Adding more internal reviewers does not help, because they are inside the same loop.
- Sincerity is not the variable. The defect is structural, so honest participants produce the same output as dishonest ones and cannot tell the difference from inside.
- Payment flowing from the validated to the validators is a reliable external signature of the arrangement, and is usually easier to observe than the epistemics.
- Resolved only by a validator who is free to say no and loses nothing by doing so.
- Distinct from unfalsifiability: this is about who is permitted to check, not about whether the claim admits of a test.
## Evidence
Bob Scott, a co-founder of Kansas City Fellowship, describing the 1980s prophetic scene from inside: "who's checking us? We're confirming our own stuff. We're vindicating ourselves." He identifies the compensation structure in the same breath — vindicators received guest pulpit slots and large offerings, which he summarizes as "pay for your own praise."
