## ๐ Summary
- Mike and Melissa analyze the Passion Translation, a Bible translation by Brian Simmons
- Simmons claims divine inspiration through visions and angels but lacks scholarly credentials
- The translation adds substantial text not present in original Hebrew/Greek sources
- Translation appears to promote hyper-charismatic theology through selective word choices
- Former colleagues from Simmons' missionary work dispute his translation credentials
- Scholars classify it as a "sectarian translation" with theological agenda rather than faithful rendering
## ๐ Main Content
The Passion Translation represents a controversial Bible translation created by Brian Simmons, who claims divine inspiration through visions including an encounter with an angel named "Passion." Unlike mainstream Bible translations produced by scholarly committees, this work comes from a single translator with questionable credentials.
### Translation Methodology Issues
The translation demonstrates significant textual expansion. Psalm 18:1 grows from 6 English words in standard translations to 16 words in the Passion Translation. The famous verse "Jesus wept" becomes "tears streamed down Jesus's face." Psalm 18 overall expands from 859 words (NIV) to 1,286 wordsโnearly 50% longer.
### Theological Agenda
The translation appears to embed hyper-charismatic terminology and concepts. Key examples include:
- "Realm" appears 196 times vs. 0-10 times in standard translations
- "Anointed" appears 223 times vs. 10-15 times in others
- "Prophetic" appears 28 times vs. 4 times maximum elsewhere
- "Mountains of influence" added to support Seven Mountain Mandate theology
### Credential Concerns
Simmons claims experience as a co-translator for the Kuna New Testament and linguistic training through New Tribes Mission. However:
- Don Peterson from Ethnos 360 (formerly New Tribes) states Simmons "is not a linguist of any sort"
- Jerry McDaniels, who worked with the Kuna people for 30+ years, says "nobody in our mission would ever say that he is a Bible translator"
- The Kuna New Testament was completed in 1995, after Simmons had left the field
- Simmons' doctorate is in "practical ministry with a focus on prayer," not biblical languages

**Translation Troubles: The Passion Translation Controversy**
This week we're diving into translation methodology and the importance of scholarly oversight in Bible translation. A fascinating investigation reveals how the Passion Translation significantly expands biblical textโsometimes by 50%โwhile embedding specific theological terminology. The translation's creator claims divine inspiration through visions, but investigative work reveals concerning inconsistencies in his stated credentials. This serves as a crucial reminder about the difference between faithful translation and theological interpretation. For WordPress developers working on church websites, this highlights the importance of careful content review and the need for multiple editorial layers in any content management system.
## โ
Action Items

### ๐ก๏ธ DARVO Analysis
No clear DARVO patterns detected. The analysis focuses on factual investigation and textual comparison rather than personal attack or victim positioning.
## ๐ฏ Conclusion
The investigation reveals significant concerns about the Passion Translation's methodology, credentials, and theological agenda. The translation's substantial textual expansion, combined with disputed claims about the translator's qualifications, suggests readers should approach this version with considerable caution. Churches and individuals should prioritize translations produced through rigorous scholarly processes with proper oversight and transparency. This case study highlights the ongoing importance of biblical literacy and the need for careful evaluation of religious texts and their sources.

[00:00] I was recently interviewed on the topic
[00:02] of the passion translation on Melissa
[00:03] Daugherty's channel and this video that
[00:06] you're about to see is that interview
[00:07] but it's like a one-stop shop for
[00:09] information about the passion
[00:10] translation about the translation itself
[00:12] its procedures what's wrong with it
[00:15] how it was translated Brian Simmons a
[00:17] lot of information about the translator
[00:18] itself this is the video I think to
[00:21] summarize because I've done a lot of
[00:22] legwork on the passion of translation
[00:24] but that's spread out over several
[00:25] videos so here's your one-stop shop I
[00:28] hope that this interview blesses a lot
[00:29] of people I hope it helps you I'm not
[00:31] paranoid about translations but I have
[00:32] deep and very serious and well-founded
[00:35] concerns about the passion translation
[00:37] and so should you
[00:38] hi everybody I'm back with a really
[00:42] interesting video for you guys today
[00:44] this has been something that both
[00:45] Mandarin have been really passionate
[00:47] about pun intended the last few months
[00:51] over things have been going on at Bethel
[00:54] with a hyper charismatic movement and
[00:56] with everything that's been happening so
[00:58] many people have been asking about the
[01:00] passion translation this is something
[01:02] that I've been personally looking into
[01:04] the last few months and I'm really
[01:06] excited to have mic on today to talk
[01:08] about this because he's done a lot of
[01:10] research on this I find his content very
[01:13] useful he has made a few videos about
[01:16] this on his channel if you want to go
[01:19] check those out I will include a link to
[01:21] those videos in the description of this
[01:22] video well to start off on this you
[01:26] cannot talk about the passion
[01:28] translation without talking about Brian
[01:30] Simmons Brian Simmons is the the one who
[01:35] basically came up with the passion
[01:37] translation there's a whole story with
[01:39] how this got started and Mike at that
[01:41] point I'm gonna hand it over to you and
[01:43] see what you can tell us about Brian
[01:45] Simmons yeah for being on today oh
[01:49] thanks for having me it's it's great to
[01:51] be back on your guys on your channel I
[01:52] appreciate the opportunity to hopefully
[01:54] help people with this video on let me
[01:56] just start by saying like I'm not just
[01:58] I'm not like paranoid about translations
[02:00] I think we have lots of good Bible
[02:01] translations and there's a variety of
[02:02] ways of you know elements in translating
[02:05] that are reflected in different ones and
[02:07] they're all good I'm happy with lots of
[02:08] translations but not this one there's
[02:11] some really important reasons why the
[02:12] first thing is
[02:14] this translation unlike most others it's
[02:16] done by just one guy most translations
[02:18] nowadays are done by committees there's
[02:20] there's whole groups of different
[02:21] scholars and different fields kind of
[02:23] comparing notes and you know sort of
[02:25] double-checking one another as they make
[02:27] a translation and this was just done by
[02:29] one guy Brian Simmons so the translation
[02:31] is only gonna be as good as that guy
[02:32] made it right and he's he's ultimately
[02:35] he's the oversight he's the beginning
[02:38] and end of the passion translation but
[02:40] it's not like other translations even in
[02:42] that one man translations like done by
[02:44] say Martin Luther or Wycliffe or
[02:46] something these are like translations
[02:48] done by guys who are trained and skilled
[02:50] who translate based upon their education
[02:53] and their background Brian Simmons
[02:55] claims to translate with the inspiration
[02:58] of the Holy Spirit
[03:01] a different story altogether isn't it
[03:02] yeah so it claims that this is a
[03:04] inspired translation now he will find
[03:07] out in a minute he doesn't have the
[03:09] credentials to translate well but but
[03:11] the really weird stuff is when you find
[03:12] out the background of this translation
[03:14] he says that he was he met an angel
[03:17] named passion which is why he called it
[03:19] the passion translation so he entered he
[03:21] had an angel he claims which I believe
[03:23] in angels I believe you can't encounter
[03:24] them
[03:24] I just don't think Brian did in this
[03:26] case he also claims that um God showed
[03:29] him secrets of the Hebrew and Greek
[03:31] language so as he was translating he got
[03:33] new information that was never before
[03:35] known about the Bible and what it means
[03:38] that I find very suspicious that an
[03:41] unskilled man with some sort of
[03:44] spiritual it sounds like Joseph Smith
[03:46] when he was like I have special
[03:47] knowledge about ancient languages that
[03:49] from the spirit you know it sounds like
[03:50] a really weird thing he's the leader of
[03:52] Mormonism original founder of it so
[03:54] bottom line the passion translation
[03:57] hinges upon Bryan Simmons is this guy
[03:59] really inspired by the Holy Spirit or is
[04:02] something else going on did did God give
[04:04] him inspiration to know things that
[04:06] that's people who actually study these
[04:08] languages don't actually know did God do
[04:11] that for him or did he come up with a
[04:14] strange translation with other perhaps
[04:16] other motives and two other results
[04:18] other than the leading of the Holy
[04:20] Spirit so yeah that's that's the
[04:22] beginning of it it's like wait a minute
[04:23] this is like not like other translations
[04:25] at all but it's growing in use growing
[04:27] in popularity particularly amongst
[04:30] certain churches who tend to not think
[04:32] very highly of scholarship or academic
[04:35] research yeah yeah which is kind of why
[04:37] we're gonna talk about it today because
[04:39] of their growing popularity
[04:41] I've seen it endorsed by well-known
[04:43] pastors I've seen it used at a few
[04:46] pulpits at many churches a few here in
[04:49] my hometown and I don't think a lot of
[04:52] people understand where it came from
[04:54] I think they assumed that it's a
[04:56] legitimate translation I think they
[04:57] assume that it's that a that a committee
[05:01] put this together I don't think that
[05:03] people in the evangelical church are
[05:05] used to having basically self-made
[05:08] translations or they're not used to it
[05:11] because when I think of a self-made
[05:12] translation I think of the New World
[05:13] Translation like you mention
[05:15] which is the jehovah's witness
[05:16] translation it's made by jehovah's
[05:19] witnesses for Jehovah's Witness theology
[05:22] and then you have the Joseph Smith
[05:23] translation any of these independently
[05:26] made translations it's a huge red flag
[05:28] so that is the passion translation it
[05:32] was made by one man Bryan Simmons and
[05:34] Mike he mentioned earlier about the way
[05:38] the means that he got the inspiration to
[05:41] make this translation can you give us
[05:44] more information on how that came to be
[05:47] yeah you know when I was researching
[05:49] this content trying to find out about
[05:51] this stuff it felt like going into the
[05:52] rabbit hole
[05:53] as I kept getting weirder and weirder
[05:54] stuff you know there's video online of
[05:57] him doing this talking about his vision
[05:58] his multiple visions that he's had
[06:00] supposedly and again I I think God can
[06:02] show you a vision if he wants but I also
[06:04] think people can say God showed them a
[06:06] vision as a way of legitimizing whatever
[06:07] they say next yeah I think that's what's
[06:09] happened here well at any rate he he
[06:12] says that he was sort of caught up into
[06:14] heaven and went to the great library of
[06:15] God and there's this library of all
[06:17] these books and stuff like that one of
[06:19] the things he claims is that um that God
[06:22] gave him the 23rd chapter to the Gospel
[06:25] of John John 23 and that this is some
[06:28] future revelation he's one day going to
[06:30] bring now John doesn't have that many
[06:31] chapters right this is an extra chapter
[06:33] that doesn't exist in John and the the
[06:36] picture here is Brian Simmons has some
[06:38] sort of new revelation that he's gonna
[06:41] bring that is somehow parallel with
[06:42] scripture I mean what how else could it
[06:44] be called john xxiii that he in the
[06:46] future will bring now he's not bringing
[06:47] it yet he's just talking about how he
[06:49] has it he's not allowed to talk not
[06:51] allowed to tell us what it is yet it's
[06:52] kind of weird but basically he thinks
[06:55] he's been commissioned by God to bring a
[06:57] new translation that will make the Word
[06:58] of God come to life like never before
[07:00] and it is like never before I agree with
[07:03] that part of it like never before
[07:05] and and yeah so he thinks this is this
[07:08] is totally the Lord leading him he's had
[07:10] multiple stories about these visions
[07:12] he's had visions and when he was in with
[07:14] the pie hakuna people will talk about a
[07:15] little bit visions when he was at home
[07:18] yeah it's it's very it's very much about
[07:23] sort of these supernatural experiences
[07:26] that he that sort of justify or give
[07:29] validate his his translation but I'm
[07:31] gonna suggest that what we can do is we
[07:33] can actually test Brian Simmons claims
[07:35] about other things and maybe not
[07:37] divisions I can test his claims about
[07:38] his education and his experience and his
[07:40] past and when I show that he's not
[07:42] telling the truth about those things we
[07:44] have good reason to think that he's
[07:45] probably not telling the truth about
[07:46] these visions too and I think that's a
[07:48] smart way to go about it yeah that is a
[07:50] good way to go about it you mentioned
[07:53] his credentials so Brian Simmons is not
[07:56] a scholar he he he lacks the proper
[08:00] credentials that one would have to have
[08:03] in order to even be on a committee to
[08:05] translate a Bible translation yeah which
[08:09] is why we don't recommend Bibles
[08:11] translated by one person because they're
[08:13] usually incredibly biased they're
[08:16] they're made with an agenda in mind and
[08:19] in this case it's using you know that
[08:23] the culture and the language of the
[08:24] hyper charismatic community at this
[08:25] point the passion translation uses pot
[08:30] terms that are found in that culture and
[08:33] that you know especially in what the
[08:35] hyper charismatic culture the words are
[08:38] like glory even words like manifest or
[08:43] in partition and all these these words
[08:46] this vocabulary they have their own
[08:47] terms their own vocabulary are used so
[08:52] much more in this Bible than you would
[08:54] ever find in you know what was
[08:57] originally written so before we go down
[08:59] we mentioned something about an inter
[09:01] linear so an interlinear Bible takes the
[09:05] original language Greek Hebrew and
[09:07] basically gives the English translation
[09:11] to it so if you want to go and find a
[09:14] direct translation to the Bible you get
[09:16] an interlinear the the challenge is is
[09:18] that if you were to take an inter linear
[09:20] right you wouldn't find anything that
[09:23] Brian sent most things that Brian
[09:25] Simmons wrote in his translation to be
[09:28] equivalent to what was written in
[09:30] Scripture oh yeah so that's the cool
[09:33] thing about interlinear even if you
[09:34] don't know Greek you know that here's a
[09:35] Greek word and then here's the English
[09:37] word they translated it into right yes
[09:39] but if Brian Simmons error he'll never
[09:41] make an inter linear
[09:42] Prakasham never I promise you'll never
[09:44] happen because it would become
[09:45] immediately obvious even if you don't
[09:46] know Greek or Hebrew you'd be like whoa
[09:49] you added so much stuff and he claims
[09:51] that when they add stuff they put
[09:53] italics in the text so that you'll know
[09:55] they added something for clarity but
[09:57] they rarely use italics they may ask the
[10:00] name don't yeah it's all the time he
[10:02] breaks that rule let me give you some
[10:04] examples okay today is we're recording
[10:06] this it's the 18th and I thought I want
[10:08] to give an unbiased example so I just
[10:10] went to the first book in his because he
[10:12] doesn't have the whole Bible translated
[10:13] but the first book he has translated his
[10:15] Book of Psalms so it's a Psalm 18
[10:17] because today's 18th and I did a word
[10:19] count in the NIV translation there are
[10:21] 859 words in Psalm 18 right in the
[10:25] passion translation there's not 859
[10:27] there are can you guess 1286 words in
[10:32] Psalm 18 in the passion translation that
[10:35] is 427 new words new words
[10:39] it's almost 50% bigger in the passion
[10:42] translation let me give you one example
[10:43] this is Psalm 18 verse 1 now I'm not I'm
[10:45] not trying been trying to pick the worst
[10:46] examples I can find I just want to Psalm
[10:48] 18 kiss today's the 18th okay
[10:51] Psalm 18 verse 1 in any normal
[10:53] translation it'll say something like
[10:55] this right here's the NIV I love you
[10:57] Lord my strength that's six words in
[11:00] English right there's actually only
[11:01] three words in Hebrew only three words
[11:04] in Hebrew but we translate it with six
[11:05] words in English so some liberties being
[11:06] taken here to get the meaning across I
[11:08] love you Lord my strength here's those
[11:10] same six words in Psalm 18 1 and the
[11:14] passion translation he says Lord I
[11:16] passionately love you and I'm bonded to
[11:19] you for now you've become my power three
[11:22] Hebrew words becomes 16 English words
[11:26] because he's trying to make it more
[11:28] passionate you can't just love God you
[11:30] have to passionately love him and be
[11:32] bonded to him why because he's he's like
[11:35] well this word could have this element
[11:37] to it and it could have that meaning to
[11:39] it and so he like double and triple
[11:40] translates words which you don't do yeah
[11:43] like that's not a good policy to have
[11:45] when you do that I can give you more
[11:47] examples of just adding to the text yeah
[11:50] adding to the text song Song of Solomon
[11:52] chapter 2 verse 13
[11:55] the ESV let me just read to you the ESV
[11:57] this is it's it's just speaking about
[11:59] plants and stuff like that and about how
[12:01] there's relation to that and the love
[12:03] between these two people right
[12:04] it says the fig tree ripens its figs and
[12:07] the vines are in the blossom they give
[12:09] forth fragrance arise my love my
[12:11] beautiful one and come away which is a
[12:13] fig tree it ripens the vines are in
[12:15] blossom they give forth fragrance in
[12:17] other words the time has come right like
[12:19] the figs it's ripening time and he's
[12:21] like arise my love it's time for us to
[12:22] enjoy our love together so he says come
[12:24] away now here's that here's that same
[12:26] verse in the passion translation can you
[12:29] not discern this new day of Destiny
[12:31] breaking forth around you what eggs
[12:35] right let's keep reading the early signs
[12:37] of my purposes and plans are bursting
[12:39] forth the budding vines of new life are
[12:42] now blooming everywhere the fragrance of
[12:44] their flowers whispers there is change
[12:47] in the air arise my love my beautiful
[12:49] companion and run with me to the higher
[12:50] place for now is the time to arise and
[12:53] come away with me what was 25 words and
[12:57] clearer in say the ESV as I read to you
[13:00] earlier is 72 words in the passion
[13:03] translation and you don't even have the
[13:05] word fig where's the word fig like the
[13:07] God inspired that you the rider to put
[13:10] the word fig in there but you don't even
[13:11] have the word anything like the word
[13:13] instead you have a bunch of added stuff
[13:15] and you have some stuff missing this is
[13:17] called changing God's holy word because
[13:20] he just likes how it sounds and I think
[13:22] that's a big problem we gave you one
[13:24] more example of adding the shortest
[13:26] English verse in your Bible you probably
[13:27] ready know it right Melissa yeah what
[13:29] does it say jesus wept
[13:30] jesus wept right and just about every
[13:33] translation is gonna say jesus wept in
[13:34] the in the english this is the shortest
[13:36] verse in your Bible in the Greek it's
[13:38] actually rejoice always different verse
[13:39] but that's a Greek verses English right
[13:42] but Jesus wept in almost every
[13:44] translation jesus wept in the passion
[13:46] translation then tears streamed down
[13:49] Jesus's face because you can't just say
[13:52] Jesus wept like a Greek does because
[13:55] it's not passionate enough you know for
[13:58] him it's not passionate enough that
[13:59] Jesus wept so then tears stream down
[14:02] Jesus's face now you might be like well
[14:05] Mike but I mean I like that sound better
[14:07] you kind of read my mind I was going to
[14:08] play
[14:09] advocate for a second and say but Mike
[14:11] what's wrong with that what what is
[14:13] what's the difference between that and
[14:15] like the message or you know there are
[14:18] definitely issues with it but if
[14:20] somebody were to say what's the big deal
[14:23] yeah what would you say that well I'd
[14:26] say there's there's two responses to
[14:28] that one response is this is why why am
[14:33] I allowed to change God's Word even if
[14:36] it's just to make it quote better in my
[14:39] opinion what does that mean like how
[14:41] many places of the Bible will I change
[14:43] because I think I can make that better
[14:45] oh I keep I wouldn't write it like that
[14:47] but you're not God like you have no
[14:49] authority to change the Holy Word of God
[14:52] to make it quote better own or appealing
[14:54] to you in some fashion or another God
[14:56] wrote it that way for his purposes and
[14:58] his reasons a translators job is to
[15:00] preserve meaning across languages not to
[15:02] make things more appealing in any
[15:04] fashion or you know at all that's that's
[15:06] an abuse I remember using a translator
[15:09] when I was in Costa Rica and I'm using a
[15:13] translator and I said something and it
[15:14] was that way that was shortened the
[15:15] translator just went on and on and on
[15:17] and on and I was like I know my mind I
[15:21] can expand on my own words but that guy
[15:24] doesn't know my mind what on earth is he
[15:26] saying on my behalf to those people and
[15:29] no matter how he's changing it I'm like
[15:31] no I I meant what I said please don't
[15:33] add and God says in Proverbs says
[15:36] everywhere the Lord is pure do not add
[15:38] to his words lest he rebuked you and you
[15:40] be found a liar don't add to his words
[15:42] don't add anything extra there it's it's
[15:45] just not right so yeah it may be seeming
[15:47] to make it better but I think that make
[15:50] it more likable make it more enjoyable
[15:52] make it more passionate is is exactly to
[15:56] put it bluntly exactly how Satan closed
[15:58] himself as an angel of light
[15:59] right it's sayings like I'm not gonna
[16:01] bring I'm not just gonna bring new
[16:02] theology I'm gonna bring nice theology
[16:05] right it's not just it's really nice
[16:06] like guys the bad theology that Satan
[16:10] wants us to believe is gonna be so
[16:11] wonderful and part warming it's not
[16:13] gonna be like man you know he disguises
[16:15] himself as an angel of light
[16:17] so yeah we don't know but another issue
[16:19] is this is that the the passion
[16:22] translation
[16:23] has an agenda like you mentioned before
[16:25] it's what's called a sectarian
[16:27] translation and scholars do call it this
[16:29] they call it a sectarian translation and
[16:32] I can give you some examples of this
[16:34] where we see it happen over and over
[16:35] where the changes aren't just making it
[16:37] more passionate which is already wrong
[16:40] to do if you care about what God
[16:42] actually said you know then this is
[16:44] wrong to do but it's in addition to that
[16:46] it's pushing specific agendas like for
[16:49] instance you guys may have heard of the
[16:51] seven mountain man thing oh yeah okay
[16:53] this is not a biblical idea this is that
[16:55] comes from some extra Biblical prophecy
[16:56] thing that there's these mountains of
[16:59] influence around the world and these
[17:00] represent spheres of power and you know
[17:03] Christians are to go over and take over
[17:05] these spheres of power like government
[17:06] and the arts and science and that
[17:08] whatever the seven mountains are well
[17:11] but what Brian Simmons did was him when
[17:14] he translated the Psalms he added the
[17:15] phrase mountains of influence multiple
[17:17] times in two texts where there's no
[17:20] Hebrew justification for adding it so
[17:23] let me give you some examples right
[17:24] here's the passion translation Psalm 72
[17:27] verse 3 listen for that phrase then the
[17:29] mountains of influence will be fruitful
[17:31] and from your righteousness prosperity
[17:33] and peace will flow to all the people
[17:35] now this sounds like a prophecy that
[17:38] that fits this sort of apostolic
[17:43] prophetic movement that's going on where
[17:45] they're like we have these mountains of
[17:46] influence but when you read it in a
[17:48] normal translation like the ESV it
[17:50] doesn't mean that at all here's the ESV
[17:52] let the mountains bear prosperity for
[17:54] the people and the hills in
[17:56] righteousness
[17:56] it's literally talking about like
[17:58] growing food and and and hunting animals
[18:02] on the mountains yeah that's the
[18:04] prosperity in context is talking about
[18:06] he wants to alig arise it to change the
[18:08] meaning of scripture to support his
[18:10] mountains of influence so there's three
[18:12] times where he adds the phrase mountains
[18:13] of influence in the Book of Psalms and
[18:15] proverbs it's also verse chapter 80
[18:17] verse 10 of Psalms and proverbs 8:1 that
[18:20] but this happens over and over again
[18:21] when I started getting suspicious about
[18:23] the passion translation really
[18:25] suspicious on the before I knew all
[18:28] about his supposed divisions and his
[18:30] training is not training that he's
[18:32] received which we'll talk about in a
[18:33] little bit but it was when I started
[18:35] looking up specific terms okay
[18:37] I know being I'm I'm a guy who believes
[18:40] in the gifts the spirit and so I bet I'm
[18:41] kind of I guess you might think I'm like
[18:43] on the in the in the middle space
[18:45] between the cessationists and the hyper
[18:46] carry ethics I'm kind of like somewhere
[18:48] in the middle right there I think in all
[18:51] reality but but I'm exposed to these
[18:54] things and so I hear the language they
[18:56] use their special terms that come up in
[18:58] these circles like realm or anointed or
[19:01] impart or prophetic or activate or
[19:05] passion well all of these words when I
[19:08] searched them in the passion translation
[19:10] I found out that these words appeared
[19:12] way more times in Brian Simmons new
[19:15] translations than they ever appeared in
[19:17] any translation before that well what
[19:19] does that mean I mean it means that the
[19:22] guys making stuff up and he's reading
[19:24] his theology or his beliefs he's putting
[19:26] it in the text of Scripture where it's
[19:28] not there this is the adulteration of
[19:31] scripture give you some examples okay
[19:33] the word realm the word realm the realms
[19:35] of power realms of authority realms or
[19:37] whatever it's very common in these
[19:38] circles other Christians never mentioned
[19:40] the word
[19:40] right so I'm in the ESV in the New King
[19:43] James Version the word realm appears
[19:44] zero times in the NASB it appears once
[19:47] in the NIV it appears 10 times that's
[19:49] the highest count I found in the NIV it
[19:51] appears 10 times in the pastor
[19:52] translation do you want to guess how
[19:53] many times it appears in the pagination
[19:56] 196 you're really close and get this the
[20:01] passion translation is not even the
[20:02] whole Bible yet he just has the New
[20:03] Testament Psalms proverbs Isaiah this in
[20:06] fact in these numbers I didn't even say
[20:08] wasn't written yet when I found these
[20:09] numbers so that's a good point so the
[20:11] New Testament Brian Simmons is only
[20:12] translated for those that don't know
[20:14] this was something I found frustrating
[20:16] because I like to get a hold of these
[20:18] Bibles and actually read them
[20:20] he has only translated the New Testament
[20:22] and Psalms and I and he's working on
[20:24] Isaiah right this Psalms
[20:26] no he just finished Isaiah I don't know
[20:28] what he's working on now maybe Genesis
[20:29] yeah I think you're right I think he was
[20:31] working on Genesis so he's he's working
[20:33] his way through the Old Testament to
[20:35] translate it but the entire Bible is not
[20:38] translated yet yes each book comes out
[20:40] one at a time and then you can buy it
[20:41] individually it's like a really good
[20:43] money-making plan actually good
[20:45] marketing yeah I'm gonna wait Genesis
[20:50] and it has
[20:50] never before known secrets of Hebrew and
[20:52] it guys it'll it'll it'll ignite the
[20:54] flame of your fire for God and it will
[20:56] change your life as a Christian it's
[20:58] only fifteen dollars you know five
[21:01] months later I got a new book of Exodus
[21:02] it will ignite your flame for God and it
[21:05] will change your life and all this stuff
[21:06] and it's only fifteen dollars and so he
[21:08] keeps telling him piecemeal eventually
[21:10] they'll have the whole thing compiled
[21:12] but yeah so the word realm yeah it
[21:14] appears a hundred and ninety six times
[21:16] as opposed to bar so far it appears on
[21:19] or not so far so the would probably be
[21:22] about maybe easily double with the Old
[21:26] Testament if we were gonna go that far I
[21:28] mean if you're gonna take the entire
[21:29] Bible and say the NIV only mentions at
[21:32] ten times you said oh well I only
[21:33] searched so I'd what I did was are only
[21:35] searched I tried to only search
[21:37] corresponding books so I just searched
[21:39] basically the New Testament or Psalms
[21:42] you know just the corresponding passages
[21:44] so there'd be a fair comparison
[21:45] yeah you may he may have it more times
[21:47] though in the future we'll see yeah so
[21:49] like the word anointed is another one
[21:50] and anointed is a is a hugely important
[21:53] term for Brian Simmons and for some
[21:54] people in his circle we well the ESV has
[21:58] it 15 times new king james 12 times NIV
[22:01] 10 times NASB ten times notice the
[22:04] consistency they all translated
[22:05] relatively the same number of times
[22:07] because they're all being responsible
[22:08] translators yes right so they don't come
[22:10] up with wildly different things well the
[22:12] passion translation has the word
[22:13] anointed 223 times you don't need to
[22:19] know Hebrew and Greek to know that
[22:20] that's weird yeah right let me give you
[22:22] an example of something he said about
[22:24] why he does this because he wants to say
[22:27] that Jesus was the Anointed One
[22:28] he doesn't like translating at Messiah
[22:30] sometimes he does sometimes he calls him
[22:31] anointed one because he wants to then
[22:34] say that you are an anointed one and I
[22:36] read that and I thought my little
[22:37] theological radar went off yeah a minute
[22:39] it sounds like you're muddying the line
[22:41] between me and Jesus yeah so I went
[22:43] online and I found a teaching from Brian
[22:45] Simmons that muddies the line between me
[22:47] and Jesus and I realized he's putting
[22:48] his theology into the scripture okay
[22:51] this is a quote from Brian he says you
[22:53] are wrapped into Jesus Christ all that
[22:55] he is you now are every
[22:59] that's true about Jesus can be spoken
[23:01] about you because you are in him
[23:05] wait a minute Jesus is eternal Jesus is
[23:08] God is am I that all that he is I now am
[23:13] either you have to say Jesus isn't God
[23:16] anymore because I'm not or you're gonna
[23:17] firm that I am God because he is like
[23:20] you can't this is this is like dangerous
[23:23] theology stuff yeah and it's being it's
[23:25] being embedded into the text of
[23:27] Scripture so that he could try to
[23:28] justify this weird theology okay now it
[23:31] becomes more than just I'm making it
[23:32] better right it's even worse than that
[23:34] yeah there's other terms the word
[23:37] prophetic is used like say in the ESV
[23:39] it's used four times that's the most
[23:41] that I found the word prophetic in these
[23:42] translations I consulted but in the
[23:44] passion it's used 28 times 28 times you
[23:47] know the word in part the ESV used that
[23:50] more than other translations it used it
[23:51] six whole times in the passion it's 35
[23:54] times in part because these ministries
[23:57] that they tend the preachers in these
[23:59] ministries tend to always be like I want
[24:00] to impart to you I want to impart to you
[24:02] I just want to impart to you they use
[24:04] that word all the time it's just like
[24:05] something they learn from each other
[24:06] well he's gonna stick it in the text of
[24:07] scripture so that when they preach they
[24:09] can sound like they're being more
[24:10] biblical when they say stuff like that
[24:12] the word activate it's used it's not
[24:15] used anywhere in any translation as far
[24:16] as I found I mean the ones I'm sure
[24:17] somebody's used it but not in the ones I
[24:19] consulted not in the major translations
[24:21] well the passion has it six times but
[24:24] what's interesting is where he has it
[24:26] right he puts it in Romans 12 6 where it
[24:28] says that it's telling us if you have
[24:30] prophesied prophecy then prophecy
[24:32] according to your faith well he adds a
[24:34] bunch of stuff to this in Romans 12 6
[24:36] and he says that you have to activate
[24:37] your gift what does that mean I mean
[24:39] it's not in the Greek stuff it's not in
[24:41] that it's not in Scripture but you're
[24:43] putting it in there
[24:43] well that's because Brian Simmons
[24:45] believes that you can take courses where
[24:48] he will train you on how to activate
[24:50] your gifts and he says quote every
[24:53] member of the body of Christ must be
[24:55] activated and he actually sells courses
[24:58] you can buy them and go through a course
[24:59] where you learn to be activated in your
[25:01] gift well now he has a scripture that
[25:03] tells you you need to be activated what
[25:06] is it what is I mean this is what you
[25:10] see the thing that I'm concerned about
[25:11] is the more sober minded people who care
[25:15] about the real carefulness of
[25:17] understanding scripture understand
[25:19] Theology they're not aware of the
[25:21] passion because people in their churches
[25:22] aren't using it yeah
[25:24] instead it sits in churches where people
[25:25] they love the gifts of the spirit they
[25:27] love the work of God but they tends to
[25:29] be thin on theology and thin on research
[25:32] that's just the reality of it and so
[25:34] this this passion is gonna have some
[25:36] translation is gonna take advantage of
[25:37] exactly that weakness by taking
[25:40] advantage of their trust in their
[25:41] leadership who presents them with the
[25:43] Bible where they're like hey man this is
[25:44] such a great translation you guys should
[25:45] check it out do you think that they just
[25:47] don't know that they're ignorant or I I
[25:51] don't think I can paint with such a wide
[25:52] brush I yeah I think it's what there's a
[25:54] mixed bag of people you know some people
[25:56] don't know some people ignorant some
[25:57] people they'll recognize when they look
[25:59] at a verse that they know and they're
[26:01] like wait a minute where did all that
[26:03] come from yeah you know they're gonna
[26:04] notice these things and then they have
[26:06] to decide how much they trust
[26:08] whoever endorsed it to them right yeah
[26:12] so yeah it's it's a problem it's a
[26:16] problem but let me talk a little bit if
[26:17] we can if you're okay with switching
[26:18] gears I talked about Bryan's training
[26:20] and credentials yes yeah I did like some
[26:22] investigative report of type of job here
[26:24] nobody's riding on this stuff right
[26:26] online I couldn't find anybody who is
[26:28] really soberly confronting the passion
[26:30] at least there was a couple people right
[26:31] but but not enough and I didn't find the
[26:34] content I wanted so I wanted to know
[26:36] what is Bryan's training well on his
[26:38] website and on the passion translation
[26:40] website in interviews on the Broad
[26:42] Street publishing website that's the one
[26:43] who's publishing the book
[26:45] it says that he was a co translator for
[26:48] the Kuna translation of the New
[26:49] Testament and he also claims they're in
[26:52] multiple places that he has linguistic
[26:54] and a biblical languages background
[26:56] mm-hmm so he's got it so in other words
[26:58] you know divide you give you no it
[26:59] doesn't say he has a degree in
[27:00] such-and-such it doesn't it doesn't say
[27:02] he doesn't it just what implies okay
[27:04] he's done translating before and he has
[27:06] a background in biblical languages and
[27:07] linguistics okay that's cool Brian also
[27:11] has claimed in an interview and I have a
[27:12] video on what am I on my channel there's
[27:14] a video where I play him saying this he
[27:17] says I had some linguistic training in
[27:18] our years of new tribes training and I
[27:21] was like new tribes what's that what's
[27:23] new tribes so I look up online a new
[27:25] tribes is a mission that is devoted to
[27:27] reaching unreached peoples and getting
[27:29] the Bible translated into their own link
[27:31] it's an outreach it's a wonderful
[27:33] ministry and they've changed names they
[27:35] used to be called new tribes back in the
[27:37] 80s they've changed their name now to
[27:39] ethnos 360 but it's the same
[27:41] organization so I called ethnos 360 and
[27:45] I got ahold of two of the guys that work
[27:47] there
[27:48] one is Don Don Pettersen Don Peterson or
[27:51] I forget if it's Peterson now I'm trying
[27:52] to remember how you pronounce his name
[27:54] here's what Don said about Bryan Simmons
[27:58] no Don's actually speaking from at the
[28:00] nose 360 he's speaking from the people
[28:02] Bryan says train him and he says Bryan
[28:05] is not a linguist of any sort huh wait
[28:10] I'm like wait a minute you mean he
[28:12] doesn't have credentials because you can
[28:14] have credentials in produce a bad
[28:15] translation but if you don't even have
[28:16] credentials and you're claiming to now I
[28:19] think you're deceitful let me give you
[28:21] more details on this because there's a
[28:22] lot more he said he had experience right
[28:25] not just credentials of training but
[28:26] experience that he has actually
[28:28] translated he said and I'll quote he
[28:31] says we had this is Bryan's claims about
[28:33] himself
[28:33] we had to decipher the language develop
[28:35] an alphabet we had to discern and
[28:38] decipher the grammar structure that took
[28:40] us the first two years while we were
[28:42] there I mean obviously when he says we
[28:44] he must mean himself right and I've got
[28:46] I've got the interview where he said
[28:47] this on my youtube channel so the
[28:51] implication is that Bryan was integral
[28:53] and formative in in this translation
[28:56] happening okay well Jerry McDaniels who
[28:59] worked with the Kuna people the same
[29:01] people Bryan says he translated the
[29:03] Bible for he worked with him for over 30
[29:05] years
[29:05] Jerry McDaniels and he works for ethnos
[29:07] 360 right at that time new tribes
[29:10] mission he says nobody in our mission
[29:13] would ever say that he is a Bible
[29:16] translator or ever was approved as a
[29:19] Bible translator brines he's lying this
[29:26] my mind he's literally lying about his
[29:28] history which is why I don't trust his
[29:29] visions he says anybody say just me just
[29:36] me I don't and I haven't had a response
[29:38] i dude I love I'll bring him on my
[29:39] youtube channel let's have a chat I'd
[29:41] like to have a chat I like to share with
[29:42] him these quotes and get him to clarify
[29:43] his positions if he wants to step back
[29:45] and say hey I really overstated it's my
[29:47] case I'd like to have him hear him say
[29:48] that I'll try and be gracious to him as
[29:50] much as I might be irritated with the
[29:52] guy for what he's doing so he says this
[29:55] Brian says I have qualifications quote
[29:57] this isn't an ad that they run they were
[30:00] on Facebook to sell the passion
[30:02] translation he says I was in an ad or is
[30:05] it just on their publisher website I'm
[30:07] trying to remember down either way it's
[30:08] an ad for the thing I have
[30:10] qualifications in that I have translated
[30:12] the New Testament as a code translator
[30:14] for the pie hakuna language this is well
[30:17] I mean is Jerry McDaniels dying lying or
[30:20] is Brian Simmons lying what's going on
[30:21] well Brian Simmons claims that he
[30:24] presented you can test his time line he
[30:27] says that he was with the pie hakuna in
[30:28] the late 80s and that he presented them
[30:31] with a completed New Testament in the
[30:33] late 80s okay that's that's a claim
[30:36] that's like a factual claim of stamp of
[30:37] history sometime in the late 80s he's
[30:39] like I we presented them with a
[30:41] completed New Testament why does this
[30:43] matter because Brian Simmons was not
[30:45] there after that right he he left he
[30:47] acknowledges that he left the pie hakuna
[30:50] people and came back to the States so by
[30:52] the 90s he's back in the States
[30:54] if he's gonna get credit for the
[30:55] translation then the translation has to
[30:56] have already happened by the late 80s
[31:00] yeah well the Moody Bible Institute they
[31:02] have stats on translations for various
[31:04] countries and various languages so their
[31:07] stats or their information on the pie
[31:09] hakuna Bible or the Kuna Bible it never
[31:11] mentions Brian Simmons never mentions
[31:14] his name is being involved in
[31:15] translating and it gives a different
[31:16] date for when the translation was done
[31:18] listen to this here's a quote from the
[31:19] Moody Bible Institute page
[31:21] they say the Kuna Bible translation
[31:23] project began in 1982 when Wycliffe
[31:27] translators Keith and Wilma Forster
[31:29] began working with
[31:30] Kuna pastor lino Smith our gang go on a
[31:33] new Trent New Testament translation it
[31:37] was published in nineteen nine
[31:40] five brian says he handed them like in
[31:44] another interview with sid roth he goes
[31:45] it was such a pleasure to hand them a
[31:47] complete a New Testament and then he
[31:49] left before before 95 ever came around
[31:51] before 92 ever came around he was out of
[31:53] there for sure because he claimed he was
[31:55] out of there before some missionaries
[31:56] were killed locally that happened in 92
[31:58] maybe I'm giving you too much
[31:59] information but basically he was at it
[32:01] he said he was out of there in the 80s
[32:02] giving them a New Testament the Moody
[32:05] Bible Institute doesn't mention his name
[32:07] at all his own co-workers say he wasn't
[32:09] involved in the actual translate
[32:11] translation the the hard work of making
[32:13] it from from either original or English
[32:16] over to PI hakuna and and then Moody
[32:21] Bible Institute says it was done a 95
[32:22] not in the 80s rating his credentials
[32:26] would you say exaggerating would be the
[32:28] nicest way to be the nicest way to put
[32:30] it would be that he's exaggerating yeah
[32:32] but he's in all reality he he's just
[32:35] saying things happen they didn't happen
[32:36] at all fabricating his credentials yeah
[32:39] Don Peterson
[32:40] he says the PI O'Connor translation was
[32:42] not done while he was in service with
[32:45] new tribes mission that's what Dom
[32:48] Pettersen says Don Patterson he wanted
[32:50] people to know and I'll quote this is
[32:52] Donnie and you can you can check out
[32:53] those 361 to reach out to Don I asked
[32:55] them to if they would make it like an
[32:57] official statement from their
[32:58] organization he said he wanted to but
[33:00] they haven't yet I don't know you know
[33:01] how it is an internal organizational
[33:03] debates they don't know if they want to
[33:04] do that or not but he did say this he
[33:06] says Brian was not what he claimed and
[33:08] that the new new tribes mission ethnos
[33:11] 360 that they did not agree with his
[33:14] doctrinal positions nor did we follow
[33:16] his approach to translation Wow which
[33:20] means that whatever training he did get
[33:21] from them they're saying he's not using
[33:23] it because we're not agree with the way
[33:24] he's doing things Brian Simmons he said
[33:27] this I think what qualifies a person to
[33:30] be involved in this monumental project
[33:32] the passion translation is not just an
[33:34] exceptional understanding of Greek and
[33:36] Hebrew but to have a heart for God now
[33:38] when he says that and he's the single
[33:40] translator or the primary translator
[33:42] what is the implication is that he has a
[33:44] right exceptional understanding Creek in
[33:46] Hebrew and a heart for God yeah cuz he
[33:49] says it's not just an exceptional
[33:50] understanding of Greek in Hebrew but
[33:52] also hard forgot
[33:53] here's what Don Peterson said you know
[33:55] this is the last court I'll share with
[33:56] you from him he says my wife and I knew
[33:59] Brian and his wife candy when we were in
[34:02] missionary training together in 1977 as
[34:05] you surmised Brian is not a linguist of
[34:07] any sort even back then he was prone to
[34:10] go off on fringe doctrinal detours it
[34:12] was because of this that he left new
[34:15] tribes mission back in the 80s possibly
[34:17] dismissed
[34:17] I'm not certain frankly I was not very
[34:20] surprised to learn that he's with an AR
[34:22] just so you know new tribes mission now
[34:24] ethnos 360 does not endorse his doctrine
[34:27] nor his translation procedures or
[34:30] philosophy interesting and Brian Simmons
[34:34] actual education he has it he's a doctor
[34:37] he's got a doctorate but his doctorate
[34:39] is from the Wagner Leadership Institute
[34:40] which is which is officially an na r
[34:42] Institute I don't like to throw the term
[34:44] in AR out like it's about everybody but
[34:46] it but the Wagner Leadership Institute
[34:48] is literally in a NIR Institute they
[34:50] claim they are but but his doctorate is
[34:53] in practice the practical ministry with
[34:54] a focus on prayer that that dr. it
[34:57] doesn't give you any training to do the
[34:59] thing that he's claiming he has the
[35:00] ability to do now yeah that's an
[35:02] expensive thing to claim too because if
[35:04] you're going to I mean I'm in seminary
[35:07] right now and I'm taking an a writing
[35:09] class an English writing class and it is
[35:12] intense and to know the English grammar
[35:15] and how its put together you you have to
[35:17] take this writing class in order to take
[35:19] your Greek grammar class yeah know how
[35:21] its structured and how its put together
[35:22] that's extensive the first thing you do
[35:24] when you're learning Greek is you
[35:25] realize you don't know English very well
[35:26] exactly I don't know anything about
[35:30] English until I learned Oh there's you
[35:32] know another language to learn and you
[35:33] have to know how to put it together and
[35:35] you know not that I'm gonna be
[35:36] translating you know a Bible anytime
[35:38] soon but yeah to understand the Greek
[35:40] language you have to understand and have
[35:42] extensive understanding about English
[35:43] and it seems like there wasn't even any
[35:46] information given for him to have
[35:49] extensive study in that no and here's
[35:51] the thought it's my thoughts real simple
[35:53] okay he claims to have this inspiration
[35:55] from the Holy Spirit these visions from
[35:56] God and that's enabling him to come up
[35:58] with new information never before known
[35:59] about the Bible I'm adding and his
[36:02] actual translation adds massive amounts
[36:04] of text that
[36:05] was that it doesn't seem to be justified
[36:07] although to someone who doesn't know
[36:10] Hebrew in Greek he might be able to kind
[36:11] of word game you well you know this in
[36:13] the Aramaic this means blah blah blah
[36:14] but yet his training doesn't justify any
[36:17] of that and what's worse what's worse is
[36:20] that he seems to be honestly lying like
[36:23] true honestly like I should say truly
[36:25] lying what's the word I'm looking for
[36:27] here he seems actually on the face of it
[36:30] he's not telling the truth about about
[36:31] his training about what he did with the
[36:33] pipe Kuna people his own people who
[36:35] worked with him and who are in the
[36:37] organization he claims trained him they
[36:39] say no no no at most they said he was a
[36:41] checker meaning that he would take the
[36:43] translations they did and he would read
[36:45] to the people and then report back how
[36:48] it sounded like how did they like the
[36:50] pike the pike who knew they did they get
[36:52] it and they not get it but this isn't a
[36:53] translating job like going from the
[36:55] original languages over to to a new
[36:59] language or something like that that's
[37:00] just a whole different thing altogether
[37:01] so if that's the case if he's if he says
[37:05] he handed them a new Testament when he
[37:06] was out of their years before they were
[37:07] ever given a new Testament why would I
[37:10] believe his visions if I can't believe
[37:12] his claims about his training and his
[37:14] past but you guys not honest about his
[37:17] past why would I think he's being
[37:19] telling the truth about these visions
[37:20] he's saying I think he's deceiving
[37:21] people I think the bottom line is I
[37:23] don't believe his visions he might
[37:25] believe them I have met people who make
[37:27] up a lie and then they tell it enough
[37:29] where they believe it's true I've seen
[37:31] that plenty of times in my life
[37:33] plenty of times and so maybe he does
[37:36] believe these visions I don't really
[37:37] care whether he believes them or not I
[37:39] care whether they're true or not like
[37:40] that's that's my concern that's a good
[37:42] point too because to say that to go as
[37:45] far as to say yeah you believe that he's
[37:47] I believe it as well that he's not being
[37:49] honest that there's a sense of maybe
[37:53] he's trying to get I don't know
[37:54] credentials I'm not sure exactly what
[37:56] his motivation would be for all I know
[37:58] the guy wants if I had to guess I'd just
[38:00] be like yeah I mean the guy really wants
[38:02] his life to be important he wants his
[38:04] life to be monumental and you know he
[38:07] was doing pastoral ministry and he ended
[38:09] up resigning from his pastor it for some
[38:10] reason he was telling this story about
[38:12] how he resigned from his pastor for
[38:13] whatever reason I don't know and then
[38:15] there he is he's floating he's like what
[38:16] am I gonna do what am I gonna do where's
[38:18] the importance of my life
[38:19] or is the where's the powerful meaning
[38:21] reason for my existence and he goes back
[38:23] and he's like well what if I came up
[38:25] with a new translation of the Bible and
[38:27] and then he starts leveraging it and and
[38:29] at first he's preaching in really like
[38:31] signs and wonders churches so he so he
[38:34] talks about visions talked about stories
[38:36] talked about how he's he's gonna ignite
[38:38] their passion for God it's gonna change
[38:39] her and then he realizes he can market
[38:42] this translation worldwide and so he
[38:44] shifts and he's like well I have
[38:45] training but the new tribes mission is
[38:47] no longer about the visions he's now
[38:48] trying to you know make it more
[38:50] respectable make the translation work
[38:51] more respectable so when I see him being
[38:54] doing a lecture in a signs and wonders
[38:58] type Church he's all about these signs
[38:59] and wonders he's experienced when he's
[39:00] on Sid Roth he tells about this vision
[39:02] from heaven yeah and when he's on his
[39:04] website and you're looking at the the
[39:06] the FAQ page like why should I believe
[39:08] that this pastor translation is good
[39:10] he's like well I had training with the
[39:12] new tribesman and doesn't mention
[39:13] anything about visions or angels named
[39:14] passion none of that stuff so I think
[39:17] he's giving a story to the audience you
[39:20] know this story to this audience that
[39:22] story to that audience and he's trying
[39:24] to just market a product but I could be
[39:26] wrong about all this I could what if I'm
[39:29] wrong about everything I just said about
[39:30] my theories about what's going on in his
[39:32] head it's irrelevant look the guy's the
[39:35] guy's not honest about his past he
[39:36] claims to have visions we have we have
[39:37] good reason to not think he's telling
[39:38] the truth about them his translation is
[39:40] not a scholarly good and its sectarian
[39:43] and it clearly adds tons of stuff to the
[39:45] Bible that's not really there let's
[39:47] pretend for a second that he actually
[39:48] did have a legitimate vision because
[39:51] that's that's his actual the real
[39:53] credentials he's using to tell people
[39:56] hey you need to trust this because this
[39:58] comes from God yeah which by the way and
[40:02] I'm gonna say this and this might be
[40:03] very upsetting to some people but I
[40:05] started off in ministry studying cults
[40:07] and one of the things that you notice is
[40:10] they're all the same they have all the
[40:12] same patterns and one of them the things
[40:15] that they do is there's mind control
[40:18] tactics which is it's very interesting
[40:21] to research this it's just nerving but
[40:24] it's interesting but one of them is that
[40:26] hey I heard from God so you need to
[40:29] believe what I'm saying I have special
[40:32] power especially
[40:33] revelation from God so what I'm saying
[40:37] holds more weight than what you see in
[40:39] that dusty book on the shelf so that's I
[40:43] see the leverage that he's pulling is
[40:45] that he has special revelation and he's
[40:48] using these visions when these are
[40:50] intense visions by the way I mean he has
[40:52] been very open about his experience his
[40:56] claimed experience of how he has
[40:58] received messages directly from Jesus on
[41:02] how the the passion translation should
[41:05] be translated and let's pretend that
[41:09] they're real for a second that this
[41:10] actually did happen what's wrong with
[41:12] that
[41:15] so in Deuteronomy God tells us like hey
[41:18] if if if a prophet comes to you mm-hmm
[41:22] and he he says he has a vision or
[41:25] whatever and then and then he tells you
[41:27] about it and the thing even comes to
[41:28] pass it comes to pass but he's he's
[41:33] giving you he's telling you let's go
[41:34] after other gods and he starts in other
[41:36] words he starts going against what God
[41:38] has already revealed don't listen to him
[41:41] that's interesting isn't it
[41:43] it's very interesting visions aren't
[41:45] only coming from God right what what is
[41:49] description mean when it says that Satan
[41:51] disguises himself as an angel of light
[41:53] oh wait a minute if he wasn't
[41:54] interacting with people in any fashion
[41:56] why would he be disguising himself as
[41:57] anything and when he disguises himself
[41:59] in the angel of light in other words
[42:00] he's saying like Satan doesn't come
[42:02] along and promote Satanism generally
[42:05] generally speaking he's gonna promote a
[42:07] an alternate good religion like a nice
[42:12] religion dress it up make it look as
[42:14] Christian as possible but gutted of of
[42:16] true Christianity right it's it's it's a
[42:19] fair circle thing it's it's whitewashed
[42:21] tombs really good-looking on the outside
[42:23] inwardly full of dead men's bones that
[42:25] that's what he's gonna present and so
[42:27] for that I would say yeah like if you
[42:29] had an actual vision like a real vision
[42:33] like a spiritual experience then I would
[42:34] just think it wasn't from the Lord
[42:35] because the visions causing you to alter
[42:37] God's Word it's causing you to push
[42:39] weird theology on to the text of
[42:41] Scripture that's not there it's
[42:42] resulting in you saying things like I
[42:44] don't know how else to take that claim
[42:46] about everything that can be said about
[42:47] Jesus
[42:48] can be said about me hmm I deserve
[42:50] worship how can you say that about me I
[42:53] am I am the lord of the living in the
[42:55] dead I am the judge of all like what you
[42:57] can't say these things about me that's
[42:59] not true and I know you can't said that
[43:00] or has he followed up on that statement
[43:02] or anything like that no and the thing
[43:05] is the statement came I wanted more
[43:07] context I wanted to hear that statement
[43:09] in context but it came on his Facebook
[43:11] page in a video that was like 1 minute
[43:12] long so he just makes all those claims
[43:14] and then the video ends so you don't
[43:16] have a chance to go like you're gonna
[43:18] clarify that you know I don't know what
[43:20] they call this I forget the word but
[43:21] it's it's like you start with a premise
[43:23] and then you start bubbling out all of
[43:25] these things that are linked to this
[43:26] idea it's evidence
[43:28] basically that you're gathering about
[43:30] this idea and what we see in the hyper
[43:32] charismatic community is this emphasis
[43:35] on man and this lower this demotion of
[43:41] God and an elevation of man because the
[43:45] more like Jesus we are the more we can
[43:48] do the things he did yeah and that's
[43:51] what I'm seeing is that he's trying to t
[43:52] equate and that that's not just Brian
[43:55] Simmons thing that's the thing that
[43:56] we're seeing across this movement is
[43:58] that they're wanting to to make man a
[44:02] equal to Jesus equal to God that maybe
[44:05] you know I and I wonder I don't know how
[44:07] much that's happening cuz I feel like
[44:09] it's there's an element of that that's
[44:11] there but I feel like a lot of I think a
[44:13] lot of sincere people are part of the
[44:14] hyper charismatic movement I really I
[44:16] really do I think they're genuinely
[44:18] saved I think they're seeking the Lord I
[44:20] think that they're confused because of
[44:21] the teaching they're giving is sloppy if
[44:23] nothing else it's just sloppy on issues
[44:25] of spiritual things but I what I do so
[44:28] see is this I see in these movements the
[44:31] hyper charismatic stuff I think that
[44:33] there is such a desire to mobilize the
[44:35] people of God so she's already get you
[44:37] out there doing things get you out there
[44:40] doing whether it's whether it's
[44:41] spiritual gifts or healings or speaking
[44:44] in tongues or or performing miracles or
[44:47] preaching the gospel I want to just
[44:49] mobilize the Church of God and so what
[44:52] can happen is is good theology can be
[44:54] sacrificed on the altar of good pep
[44:56] talks right like like okay careful
[44:59] theology I wouldn't be able to
[45:01] say what I'm about to say about you but
[45:02] if I say this you'll be like yeah you'll
[45:05] get out there and you'll go do something
[45:06] for God and so they kind of sacrifice
[45:08] good theology on the altar of the pep
[45:09] talk and so I hear that all the time
[45:11] that's where that's what I hear
[45:13] happening everything you said about
[45:13] Jesus come you said about you and it's
[45:15] like giving you if you believe that
[45:17] you're like man I got so much confidence
[45:18] I feel so good about myself right now
[45:20] yeah but it's not true like it's not
[45:22] actually true and so truth can can fall
[45:26] to the wayside under the agenda of
[45:28] mobilizing people yeah and and then they
[45:32] have to deal with the fallout because
[45:34] when you mobilize people thinking that
[45:35] they can all perform miracles all the
[45:37] time you have to deal with the fact that
[45:38] it's not happening so you start to have
[45:39] liked to have more theology that's to
[45:42] come in and explain away why healings
[45:44] aren't always happening like like we are
[45:46] telling you it's always going to happen
[45:47] and you go out a doesn't so then you
[45:48] come back and we're going to tell you it
[45:49] is always gonna happen but we got to
[45:51] find a way to spin this it's like it's
[45:54] just weird we you know in church they're
[45:56] given all these high spiritual
[45:59] mobilization tactics in the real world
[46:02] it doesn't pan out they have to come
[46:04] back and they have to get reinvigorated
[46:07] our Easter DUP again and then sent back
[46:10] out again and they have to constantly
[46:12] deal with the fact it seems to me that
[46:15] God doesn't always want to heal
[46:16] everybody on the spot that that many
[46:21] times when you're praying for healing
[46:21] for somebody the the answer is gonna be
[46:23] no because God has a plan God has an
[46:25] agenda he's sovereign and ultimately God
[46:28] will destroy death and sickness and
[46:29] cancer and all that stuff but that's
[46:31] ultimately not not right now now we're
[46:34] just healing a sample of those things
[46:35] you know we talked about that in our
[46:37] last video - um for the scriptures that
[46:41] you went over we did talk a little bit
[46:42] more about that - so if you guys want to
[46:44] check that out I will have a link to
[46:46] that as well because yeah we go into a
[46:48] lot more detail about that Mike Mike
[46:50] breaks it down really well about healing
[46:52] and the scriptures that are used for
[46:53] that and so before Mikey you're talking
[46:57] about scholarly credentials before we go
[47:00] on you mentioned a few scholars that did
[47:02] have some stuff to say about passion
[47:05] translation like legit legit scholars
[47:07] that you know they know their stuff they
[47:09] know the Bible they they know the
[47:10] language but what did I have to say
[47:13] about this
[47:14] okay I'll give you I'll give you tube
[47:16] and the reason why I did this was I
[47:17] realized that I was as I was looking at
[47:19] who endorsed the passenger passion
[47:21] translation it was all pastors leaders
[47:24] but not necessarily scholars they're all
[47:27] charismatic pastors correct I think so
[47:30] far as I know they are but but I was
[47:32] just curious like where can I find where
[47:33] scholars who've really looked into this
[47:35] in detail because a lot of its just
[47:36] passing under the radar for most guys
[47:37] they're just not being attention to it
[47:39] well Michael Heizer
[47:40] who you've had on your channel several
[47:42] times I think and and great guy he is
[47:45] really good at popularizing scholarly
[47:47] material he makes it accessible to us
[47:49] you know but he's got his his MA and his
[47:52] PhD in Hebrew Semitic languages ok so
[47:55] qualified I'm saying he says this about
[47:58] the passion he says I don't follow the
[48:00] NA are the New Apostolic Reformation nor
[48:03] do I think its distinctive teachings are
[48:05] scriptural but lots of movements have
[48:07] those sorts of problems so he's being
[48:09] gracious okay we lots of movies have
[48:10] issues then he goes on and says but not
[48:13] all movements produce their own
[48:14] translation of the Bible to prop up
[48:16] their teachings that's the issue that he
[48:19] has he sees the passion as this is your
[48:21] translation of the Bible to prop up your
[48:23] weird teachings and I think I've
[48:25] demonstrated here some examples of where
[48:26] that's the case I'll give you one of
[48:28] their scholar and Rashid and Rashid is
[48:30] the head of the Old Testament and Hebrew
[48:33] at Moore Theological College Sydney and
[48:36] he's a member of the NIV Committee on
[48:38] Bible translation that's that in other
[48:41] words the guy's qualified he's
[48:42] recognized he's respected he can speak
[48:45] to a translation in a way better than I
[48:47] can write he wrote a whole thing on this
[48:50] topic on the it's on the Gospel
[48:52] Coalition website it's called burning
[48:55] scripture with a passion a review of the
[48:57] Psalms passion translation this was when
[48:59] just the Psalms was out and here's what
[49:02] he says Bryan Simmons has made a new
[49:04] translation of the Psalms and now the
[49:06] whole New Testament which aims to
[49:08] reintroduce the passion and fire of the
[49:11] Bible to the English reader in quotes he
[49:14] achieves this by abandoning all interest
[49:16] in textual accuracy playing fast and
[49:19] loose with the original languages and
[49:21] inserting so much new material into the
[49:23] text that it is at least 50% longer than
[49:27] the original
[49:28] the result is a strongly sectarian
[49:31] translation that no longer counts as
[49:32] scripture by masquerading as a Bible it
[49:36] threatens to bind entire churches in
[49:38] thrall to a false god that's pretty well
[49:43] said Wow
[49:46] yeah he has a whole article on it that's
[49:48] the abstract that's his summary the the
[49:50] bottom line is the passion translation
[49:51] it no no Christian bookstore should have
[49:55] it
[49:55] it sits on its it shouldn't be alongside
[49:58] other Bible translations like it's a
[49:59] translation the word
[50:00] I literally just call it a translation
[50:03] because it's that's the name of the book
[50:04] right it's not really a translation now
[50:06] it's it's an adulteration of the text of
[50:09] Scripture nicely yeah it changes the
[50:12] Bible more than the the Jehovah's
[50:14] Witnesses do with their New World
[50:16] Translation I mean okay so the New World
[50:19] Translation was literally made to prop
[50:21] up Jehovah's Witness false teaching
[50:23] about about the deity of Christ in
[50:24] particular and some other things well
[50:27] it's generally an OK translation like in
[50:30] most places it's just like a clumsy
[50:31] wooden translation like it wasn't done
[50:33] with much skill but it tends to
[50:34] accurately communicate words except in
[50:38] those occasional places where the deity
[50:39] of Christ comes up then they change the
[50:41] translation that's what the New World
[50:42] Translation does so occasionally it's
[50:44] totally heretical right and a lot of the
[50:47] time it's just wooden and a little
[50:49] clumsy but ok whatever it's not it's not
[50:52] heretic ax linman's Latian it it doesn't
[50:56] leave a verse unchanged practically I
[50:58] mean I'm sure it does in some cases but
[51:00] it just constantly changes verses it's
[51:03] changed way more of the text of
[51:04] Scripture then even the watchtower did
[51:07] with their New World Translation
[51:08] it constantly changed in Scripture and
[51:10] it may not be on the deity of Christ
[51:12] exactly and that's why it slides under
[51:14] the radar
[51:15] people who look at the deity of Christ
[51:16] verses and they go oh these are ok still
[51:18] these are still okay and they aren't
[51:19] yeah okay but that doesn't mean he
[51:21] doesn't have other agendas that he's
[51:22] pushing and those agendas concerned me
[51:24] if you love God's Word
[51:25] you should not love the passion
[51:26] translation mm-hmm yeah and I think that
[51:29] that's what does fall under the radar is
[51:30] that I think a lot of pastors especially
[51:32] think that it's it's it's an it's just
[51:35] so extra it's too much it's exaggerated
[51:38] beyond that's a nice way of putting it
[51:40] but
[51:41] I think a lot of pastors in general
[51:43] don't really understand the origins of
[51:46] this translation and III live in New
[51:50] Mexico and somebody messaged me a while
[51:52] ago saying that there was a there's a
[51:54] pastor here in Albuquerque using a
[51:55] passion translation and I'm like nah ho
[51:58] don't stop you know yeah I actually
[52:01] wanted to go visit the church just to
[52:03] see you know if this was happening and
[52:05] it's really difficult whenever you see
[52:08] otherwise sound churches evangelical
[52:11] churches using a translation like this
[52:13] without really understanding that it's
[52:15] basically if what he's saying is true
[52:17] it's a channeled Bible like he's
[52:19] basically saying I'm getting these
[52:21] visions from Jesus these messages from
[52:24] this spirit so to speak we believe the
[52:28] Bible was was written under the
[52:29] inspiration of the Holy Spirit
[52:31] yeah okay but he's saying he translated
[52:34] it under the inspiration of the Holy
[52:36] Spirit which ends up being he rewrote it
[52:39] yeah it was inspired originally that
[52:43] doesn't make any sense if it was
[52:45] inspired originally then it would be
[52:47] exactly the same as it is today like
[52:49] what if God inspired it originally why
[52:52] would why would there be a need to have
[52:54] an inspiration to rewrite it exactly
[52:56] like if imagine if God gave you a
[52:58] message and he told you exactly how to
[53:00] say it he's like Melissa I'm gonna give
[53:02] you this message you're gonna say it
[53:03] exactly like this this is my word to
[53:05] people I want you to know it and you
[53:06] share it word for word exactly and 2,000
[53:09] years later somebody comes up and they
[53:12] go I'm gonna translate Melissa's message
[53:14] into a new language was from the Lord I
[53:15] want more but I'm gonna make it 50
[53:17] percent longer and I'm gonna make it
[53:19] more passionate look if you believe in
[53:22] inspiration you shouldn't believe in the
[53:24] passion translations you know pastors
[53:26] who may be watching this who are they're
[53:28] like Mike you stop sweating me and I got
[53:30] so many things to worry about in my life
[53:32] and I just think the passion translation
[53:34] sounds good and I think people respond
[53:35] to it and I just want to say man you
[53:38] have a responsibility to communicate
[53:39] God's Word you're accountable read James
[53:41] 3 you you are accountable on these
[53:44] issues and you know without even knowing
[53:46] Greek or Hebrew you know he's changing
[53:48] the Bible because just read any two
[53:49] verses right read any two chapters in
[53:52] any other translation verses the passion
[53:55] and you'll see how much is being added
[53:56] and changed and just that alone should
[53:59] be enough for a pastor to know not to
[54:01] use this stuff when he's teaching
[54:05] the other thing that it reminds me of is
[54:07] Joseph Smith's translation of the Bible
[54:10] I'm I'm not sure if too many people know
[54:12] this but Joseph Smith did make his own
[54:14] translation of the Bible yeah and he
[54:16] claimed that he got exactly the same
[54:18] thing that Brian Simmons did is that he
[54:20] got special revelation from God about
[54:22] the language and what's interesting is
[54:25] that most Mormons will not talk about
[54:28] this translation because it's wacky like
[54:30] it's absolutely I mean even they knew
[54:33] better than to endorse this translation
[54:35] because it was so out there and so I see
[54:38] these these parallels and that's the
[54:40] other thing I kind of wanted to the
[54:41] springboard off of what you said before
[54:43] about you know like what if he actually
[54:46] is getting this information it's the
[54:51] point is is that it's contradicting what
[54:52] we do know about Scripture and yeah the
[54:56] the overall common denominator that we
[55:00] see among false religions is they have
[55:03] their own Bible they have their own
[55:04] translation and it contradicts what we
[55:06] see in Scripture already so this is just
[55:10] a taste guys this is just the the tip of
[55:13] the iceberg I'm sure there's gonna be a
[55:14] more content as as we talk about this
[55:17] more and as we give more information
[55:20] about this topic I'm positive there
[55:22] gonna be more people that are gonna
[55:23] speak up about this and hopefully I'm
[55:25] hoping honestly that Brian Simmons does
[55:28] reach out to you I'm hoping that he
[55:30] reaches out to any of us and gives us
[55:32] you know a chance to talk to him about
[55:35] this because this is very troubling and
[55:38] you should not read the passion
[55:40] translation you should not look at it
[55:41] like it's authoritative and you should
[55:44] avoid it at all costs I would go as far
[55:45] as to say that it is closer to a
[55:47] channeled book than it is to Scripture
[55:49] it's it's not good Mike is there
[55:52] anything else you wanted to add yeah
[55:53] I'll just mention a few things real
[55:55] quick that I just like laundry list of
[55:56] stuff other areas where Brian's changing
[56:00] things he believes that the Bible's
[56:02] teaching on women needs to be updated
[56:04] yeah my interpretation so he read
[56:06] interprets and read translates proverbs
[56:09] 31 because he wants to change texts that
[56:12] seem to imply things that he thinks it
[56:14] doesn't fit with his understanding of
[56:16] feminism he changes
[56:19] the scripture when it talks about like
[56:20] wives and husbands and their
[56:22] relationship to each other he just
[56:23] changes it and I go through this in my
[56:26] videos but you can't justify the changes
[56:29] he's making in the language he's just
[56:30] changing it his view of revelation is
[56:32] that it's allegorical so he's gonna
[56:34] translate it to make it look like
[56:35] allegory he just translated Isaiah I'm
[56:38] very interested I haven't even looked
[56:40] you know Isaiah he probably really
[56:43] changes a lot of the prophetic stuff and
[56:45] Isaiah because he thinks that he's
[56:47] living in a particular let's pray this
[56:49] way his view of end times he's gonna
[56:51] push that on to the text of Scripture
[56:53] basically you're getting Bryan Simmons
[56:55] theology crammed into a really flowery
[57:00] unjustifiable translation that's what
[57:02] you're getting and you're getting in a
[57:03] lots and lots of places so you know
[57:06] they're not the places you'd expect
[57:06] because it's theologies not what you'd
[57:08] expect if you look at how the Bible was
[57:10] made and written and passed down to us
[57:13] it's absolutely genius how God did this
[57:16] because he used dozens and dozens of
[57:20] different authors on purpose yeah to
[57:23] make a unified narrative to make a
[57:25] unified book and it's almost like he
[57:29] didn't want one author to write the
[57:30] whole Bible because something because
[57:32] this is what happens and I mean if you
[57:35] take a you take the Koran I
[57:36] mean you take one author writing any
[57:39] spiritual book you get this bias you get
[57:43] this one person theology so I think that
[57:46] God in His wisdom in order to avoid that
[57:48] made many authors for his book I mean
[57:51] you have different literary styles but
[57:53] it's it's him saying I'm in control
[57:54] you're not you know and then you have
[57:56] people like Brian Simmons who undo that
[57:58] they take it and then they they undo all
[58:01] of that purposeful inspiration that God
[58:05] had and then they make their own
[58:07] translation yeah just to say again we're
[58:09] we don't need to be paranoid about
[58:10] translations in general yeah the ESV the
[58:13] new King James Version the King James
[58:15] Version the the is V the NIV the NASB
[58:19] go for it go for it look at them consult
[58:22] various translations check them out this
[58:24] is not you know we're not like Lowe's
[58:26] who are like find error and freak out
[58:29] like that's not like the agenda and the
[58:30] goal here I went into the past
[58:32] not knowing what I was gonna find I come
[58:34] out now is very strong terms I mean I'm
[58:36] saying the guy's lying and I'm just and
[58:38] I'm just like I did a lot of homework
[58:40] before I would make a claim like that I
[58:42] I do think we need to raise the red
[58:43] flags and I think we need to get that
[58:45] thing out of art out of our churches and
[58:47] out of our bookstores and off of our
[58:51] websites and I don't think it should be
[58:53] any more accessible than the New World
[58:55] Translation except with like it needs to
[58:57] come with a warning label like a pack of
[58:58] cigarettes right you feel like you read
[59:01] this but you better know there's a
[59:02] problem here
[59:03] there's a problem and the uninformed are
[59:05] more likely to get it and not realize it
[59:09]
