The content creator has been following this situation for several years, initially raising concerns in 2020-2021 through TikTok videos that received little attention. The current apology came after sustained pressure from Bethel alumni and increased visibility through social media posts, particularly when text messages were released by "minor profits" which amplified the controversy. The church dedicated an entire Sunday service to addressing the situation, with multiple leadership figures participating. Key figures involved include Chris Vallotton, who initially gave a defensive sermon the previous week but claimed to have had a spiritual encounter that changed his perspective, and Bill Johnson, whose apology the creator found less credible. The situation also involves victims who reached out for help, including one whom Vallotton admitted to blocking when he became annoyed with their requests for assistance. ## 🗒️ Notes #### ⏱️ [00:00](https://youtu.be/GHvNepGi8Dg?t=0) — [H1] Initial reaction to Bethel's apology - Key idea: Creator has been tracking the Shawn Bolz situation since 2020-2021 - Evidence: "I've been talking about this since 2020 2021 when I found out that Shawn was a fraud" #### ⏱️ [01:15](https://youtu.be/GHvNepGi8Dg?t=75) — [H2] Surprise at institutional response - Key idea: Never expected Bethel leadership to actually address the allegations - Evidence: "I didn't actually think that the leaders were ever going to address it" #### ⏱️ [02:30](https://youtu.be/GHvNepGi8Dg?t=150) — [H2] No direct outreach from Bethel - Key idea: Despite the apology, Bethel has not personally contacted the creator - Evidence: "No, Bethel has never reached out to me" #### ⏱️ [03:45](https://youtu.be/GHvNepGi8Dg?t=225) — [H2] Questions about outreach to other victims - Key idea: Wondering if Bethel contacted Elijah, who made a joint video with Mike Winger - Evidence: "My question is have they reached out to him?" #### ⏱️ [05:30](https://youtu.be/GHvNepGi8Dg?t=330) — [H1] Elijah's financial losses and plea for honesty - Key idea: Elijah lost savings on a documentary based on Shawn Bolz's word - Evidence: "Elijah had put a bunch of his savings into this documentary based off of a word from Shawn BS" #### ⏱️ [07:15](https://youtu.be/GHvNepGi8Dg?t=435) — [H2] Alumni pressure forced response - Key idea: Dan acknowledged alumni pressure led to the church's response - Evidence: "Dan came on stage and he said that it was mostly due to the alumni being really annoying and pestering senior leadership" #### ⏱️ [08:30](https://youtu.be/GHvNepGi8Dg?t=510) — [H1] Chris Vallotton's claimed spiritual encounter - Key idea: Vallotton claimed a Monday encounter with God changed his perspective - Evidence: "He said that on Monday he had an encounter with God and that he has completely changed his mind" #### ⏱️ [10:00](https://youtu.be/GHvNepGi8Dg?t=600) — [H2] Assessment of Vallotton's genuineness - Key idea: Creator found Vallotton's portion most genuine despite his defensive history - Evidence: "Surprisingly I found Chris Valton's section of this entire sermon the most genuine" #### ⏱️ [12:15](https://youtu.be/GHvNepGi8Dg?t=735) — [H1] Vallotton's admission about blocking victim - Key idea: Vallotton admitted to blocking a victim who sought help - Evidence: "He said he got so annoyed with him that he blocked him" #### ⏱️ [13:45](https://youtu.be/GHvNepGi8Dg?t=825) — [H2] Unaddressed cover-ups remain - Key idea: Many other alleged cover-ups at Bethel were not addressed - Evidence: "There are so many other things that I have heard about from other people, many many cover-ups" #### ⏱️ [15:30](https://youtu.be/GHvNepGi8Dg?t=930) — [H1] Skepticism of Bill Johnson's sincerity - Key idea: Creator found Bill Johnson's portion completely disingenuous - Evidence: "I did not feel like the Bill Johnson section was genuine at all" #### ⏱️ [17:00](https://youtu.be/GHvNepGi8Dg?t=1020) — [H2] Problematic TBN interview timeline - Key idea: Johnson's claim about not knowing the TBN interview purpose seems suspicious - Evidence: "Does that not seem strange to any of you guys that he would fly all the way out to TBN and then that is when he finds out that it was to promote Shawn's book" #### ⏱️ [18:45](https://youtu.be/GHvNepGi8Dg?t=1125) — [H1] Contradiction in Johnson's actions - Key idea: Johnson promoted Shawn's book immediately after hearing victim testimony - Evidence: "He literally had just listened to this victim talk about everything that he went through with Shawn and then he got up there and said, 'Here is why I can promote his book'" ## 📚 References - [Original YouTube Video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHvNepGi8Dg) - Mike Winger and Elijah joint video (referenced but not linked) - Bethel alumni Facebook group discussions (referenced) ## 🗣️ Paraphrase - A content creator who has been tracking allegations against Shawn Bolz since 2020 analyzes Bethel Church's recent institutional apology - The church was forced to respond after sustained alumni pressure and social media attention, dedicating an entire service to the issue - While finding Chris Vallotton's apology potentially genuine despite his previous defensiveness, the creator remains skeptical of Bill Johnson's sincerity and notes many other alleged issues remain unaddressed ## 📰 Newsletter **Church Accountability in the Digital Age: Lessons from Bethel's Response** The recent Bethel Church apology highlights how sustained grassroots pressure through alumni networks and social media can force institutional accountability, even when traditional channels fail. So, I took some notes because
[00:12] I have a lot of feelings and I think the
[00:15] biggest emotion that I'm feeling is just
[00:18] this whole thing is very surreal because
[00:20] I've been talking about this since 2020
[00:23] 2021 when I found out that Shawn was a
[00:25] fraud. I had made a couple Tik Tok
[00:27] videos here and there and it felt like
[00:29] nobody was listening. And then even last
[00:31] year when I first dropped my Shawn
[00:34] Bull's video in the Bethl alumni page,
[00:38] um I didn't actually think that the
[00:40] leaders were ever going to address it. I
[00:42] was surprised to see them actually
[00:44] dedicate an entire Sunday service to it.
[00:47] And they really did say that it was
[00:48] because of the alumni group. all of the
[00:51] people who saw my post, saw the minor
[00:53] profits post, which is what really made
[00:55] everything take off when the text
[00:57] messages were released. And it is just
[00:59] crazy that um a year later, here we are
[01:02] and they finally addressed it. Never did
[01:04] I ever think that I was going to watch a
[01:06] Bethl sermon ever again. So, that was
[01:09] very interesting to sit on the couch
[01:10] with my husband and say, "Let's let's
[01:13] watch this and see what happens." Um, a
[01:16] lot of you guys have been wanting to
[01:17] know if Bethl ever reached out to me to
[01:19] apologize since they have supposedly had
[01:21] this uh change of heart. No, Bethl has
[01:24] never reached out to me. I'm not
[01:26] entirely surprised because I don't speak
[01:28] very favorably about them online. Um, so
[01:32] no, they have not reached out to me. Um,
[01:34] one question I have is I want to know if
[01:37] they reached out to Elijah, who had
[01:39] known Chris Bin relatively well. If you
[01:42] guys aren't as familiar with the
[01:44] situation, people have been trying to
[01:46] get Bethl to talk about this for over a
[01:48] year. And I believe it was over the
[01:50] summer, Elijah did a joint video with
[01:53] Mike Winger. And they pled for Bethl to
[01:57] repent and to make a statement and to
[01:59] warn their congregation about Shawn. And
[02:01] Elijah had put a bunch of his savings
[02:04] into this documentary based off of a
[02:07] word from Shawn BS. And when he had gone
[02:09] to Chris and pleaded with him to give
[02:12] him the honest truth, there was just
[02:14] like a lot of wishy-washy stuff going on
[02:16] there. And basically, he didn't warn
[02:18] Elijah. And in this video, Elijah had
[02:22] said, "I am trying to come to you as a
[02:25] brother in Christ. I'm giving you 30
[02:27] something days, something like that, to
[02:29] respond to this video because I don't
[02:31] want to rush you, but I'm really hoping
[02:32] that you guys will open up an
[02:33] investigation and that you will make a
[02:36] statement." Um, and they still didn't I
[02:38] mean they completely ignored that
[02:40] because I guess it didn't get enough
[02:42] views for them to think that it mattered
[02:45] at that point. So my question I know a
[02:48] lot of people are wondering if Beth has
[02:49] reached out to me. No, but my question
[02:51] is have they reached out to him? Um,
[02:53] because he spoke relatively positively
[02:56] about them. It definitely didn't seem
[02:57] like a takedown video for Bethl and he
[03:01] was just genuinely trying to get the
[03:03] truth. So that is some of my initial
[03:05] thoughts. So, I'm gonna assume that most
[03:07] people have either watched the sermon or
[03:09] they have read the statement. So, I'm
[03:10] not going to do a full breakdown, but
[03:13] basically Dan came on stage and he said
[03:15] that it was mostly due to the alumni
[03:18] being really annoying and pestering
[03:21] senior leadership that they decided that
[03:23] they had to respond and obviously
[03:26] because of the Mike Winger video. So
[03:29] after that, Chris came on stage and as
[03:32] you guys know, last week Chris gave a
[03:34] sermon which was absolutely terrible,
[03:36] saying, "What did you expect me to do
[03:38] about it?" And it was extremely
[03:39] defensive and gross, honestly, uh, very
[03:43] gaslighty. And he said that on Monday he
[03:46] had an encounter with God and that he
[03:48] has completely changed his mind. So, who
[03:51] knows? that feels convenient to me, but
[03:53] also people can repent and we should
[03:56] always want people to change and do
[03:58] better. So, I will say um surprisingly I
[04:02] found Chris Valton's section of this
[04:05] entire sermon the most genuine. I It's
[04:09] hard. He really reminds me of this
[04:11] family member that I have who is like
[04:13] extremely stubborn and whose morals is
[04:16] just like so off-the-wall, but I know
[04:18] that that family member thinks that
[04:20] their morals are correct. Um, and they
[04:23] just really like to sweep things under
[04:26] the rug and they're like, "What's the
[04:27] big deal?" And they're kind of
[04:28] defensive. And he really reminds me a
[04:31] lot of this family member. So, as Chris
[04:33] was talking, I was like, I really think
[04:35] that he thinks that this is all he
[04:38] should be sorry for. I was actually
[04:40] really surprised at how much he was
[04:41] admitting to some things that I don't
[04:43] even think we knew. So, one thing that
[04:45] he said was that one of the victims had
[04:47] reached out to him for help, and we did
[04:49] know that he was unhelpful to this guy,
[04:52] but he said he got so annoyed with him
[04:54] that he blocked him. um just crazy and
[04:57] horrible and atrocious behavior, but the
[04:59] fact that he admitted that, I mean, it's
[05:02] hard. It's like the bare minimum that
[05:04] you are apologizing for it now, but it
[05:06] is good that you are apologizing for
[05:09] what you did. Um, other than that, I
[05:12] don't have much more to say on Chris,
[05:15] but I do have a bit to say about Bill
[05:17] because to me, that did not ring true or
[05:20] genuine at all. And I forgot one more
[05:23] thing about Chris is that while I am
[05:24] saying that I believe that this section
[05:27] of the apology might have been genuine.
[05:29] There are so many other things that I
[05:31] have heard about from other people, many
[05:34] many cover-ups that have happened at
[05:36] Bethl. And those were not addressed
[05:39] during that at all. And I'll get into
[05:41] that a little bit later in my final
[05:43] thoughts of this whole Bethl statement.
[05:45] And here are just my unfiltered
[05:46] thoughts. You guys don't have to agree
[05:48] with me. I'm just saying because I know
[05:49] a lot of you guys were asking for my
[05:52] opinion, but I did not feel like the
[05:54] Bill Johnson section was genuine at all.
[05:57] It did not feel that way to me. Um, I
[06:01] also know too much. Here's the problem,
[06:03] guys. I know too much about Bill Johnson
[06:05] and some of his stuff and, you know,
[06:09] it's stuff that I'm not allowed to share
[06:11] online. Um, but I just do not believe
[06:13] that that man is a good person. And as
[06:15] you guys know, I believe that Bethl is a
[06:17] cult and I think that Bill Johnson, he
[06:19] genuinely does not care um about these
[06:22] things that are going on in my opinion.
[06:24] So, one of the things that rubbed me the
[06:25] wrong way is that he said that he spent
[06:28] a couple hours with this victim, heard
[06:30] his story, and that they had a really
[06:32] good time chatting about this, and then
[06:35] after that, he was invited to be on TBN.
[06:38] So, he goes over this entire section so
[06:41] incredibly quickly and really doesn't
[06:43] describe it. His exact words, I believe,
[06:45] was that he was invited by TBN and when
[06:48] he went, he found out that it was to
[06:51] promote Shawn's book. And maybe, okay,
[06:55] does that not seem strange to any of you
[06:57] guys that he would fly all the way out
[06:59] to TBN and then that is when he finds
[07:02] out that the entire purpose for this
[07:04] interview is to promote Shawn? It's
[07:06] possible. I just thought that that's a
[07:08] little surprising that you flew all the
[07:09] way out there and you didn't even know
[07:11] what the interview was going to be
[07:12] about. you didn't even know that Shawn
[07:14] was going to be there. So, he said, "I
[07:16] decided to go forward with the
[07:18] interview." Um, and that was a mistake.
[07:20] [laughter]
[07:21] You think he literally had just listened
[07:23] to this victim talk about everything
[07:25] that he went through with Shawn and then
[07:27] he got up there and said, "Here is why I
[07:29] can promote his book because I know the
[07:31] character behind it." That's crazy that
[07:34] you chose to use those words. You didn't
[07:36] look uncomfortable when you are saying
[07:38] that he's great and that you should buy
[07:40] his book. You're saying that you believe
[07:42] in him and to me that is a huge I mean
[07:45] that's bigger than a mistake and also
[07:47] you didn't apologize for that until all
[07:50] of this which I will get into. Uh, this
[07:52] is getting a little long, so I will make
[07:53] a part 📄 **Full text:** ![[Full Document Contents/Articles/Bethel’s Forced Apology|Bethel’s Forced Apology, YouTube]] ## Document Notes ## Highlights - Bethl finally apologized for the Shawn Bulls situation and a lot of you guys were wondering what my thoughts were on that whole apology and the sermon that they did.
