- This case illustrates systemic problems with prophetic fraud and institutional accountability in charismatic Christian organizations
## ๐ Main Content
This testimony reveals a disturbing pattern of spiritual manipulation and institutional coverup within the charismatic Christian movement, specifically involving Bethel Church in Redding, California and prophet Shawn Bolz. The survivor, who attended Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry at age 18, was manipulated into marrying an abusive man 10 years her senior based on what she believed was a divine prophecy.
The fraud was elaborate: Shawn Bolz had met her boyfriend the day before delivering the "prophecy," then researched the couple on Facebook to obtain personal details including the woman's name (Jubilee), workplace (Tomato Pie Cafe), and relationship status. He then presented this information from the stage as divine revelation, complete with specific details that seemed impossible to know naturally.
This practice of researching conference attendees and presenting publicly available information as divine knowledge appears to be widespread among charismatic prophets. The psychological impact is profound - being "called out" by a prophet feels like "winning the lottery" spiritually, creating enormous pressure to comply with whatever directive follows.
The institutional response was equally troubling. When the man's previous girlfriend reported attempted sexual assault to school leadership at Global Celebration School of Supernatural Ministry (affiliated with Bethel), she was not believed and was actually demoted in ministry. The perpetrator remained in good standing and began dating his next victim just one month later.
The abuse escalated throughout the marriage, including two incidents of strangulation - a form of domestic violence with extremely high lethality rates. The victim couldn't swallow without pain for over 10 days after the second incident. Throughout this abuse, the fraudulent prophecy kept her trapped, as she feared going to hell for disobeying what she believed was God's direct command.

## ๐ฃ๏ธ Paraphrase
- A charismatic prophet used social media research to fabricate divine revelations that manipulated a young woman into an abusive marriage
- Religious institutions protected known abusers while silencing and punishing victims who came forward
- Spiritual manipulation through fake prophecy created religious trauma that trapped victims in life-threatening domestic violence situations
## ๐ฐ Newsletter
This disturbing testimony reveals how spiritual manipulation can trap victims in life-threatening situations. A former Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry student shares how prophet Shawn Bolz researched her relationship on Facebook, then presented those details as divine revelation to validate an abusive marriage.
The institutional response was equally troubling - when the abuser's previous victim reported sexual assault, leadership protected the perpetrator while demoting the victim. This pattern of covering up abuse while maintaining public credibility appears systemic in some charismatic organizations.
For those working with religious communities or abuse survivors, this case highlights the unique challenges of spiritual manipulation and religious trauma. The victim's fear of "going to hell" for leaving what she believed was God's will demonstrates how religious beliefs can be weaponized to trap people in dangerous situations.

[00:00] I joined a cult at 18 years old called
[00:02] Bethl School of Supernatural Ministry.
[00:05] And while I was there, I ended up
[00:06] getting conned. And I married a man who
[00:10] was 10 years older than me. All because
[00:12] a prophet said that God was giving me to
[00:15] him. And he had gotten all of my
[00:17] information off of Facebook. He had said
[00:19] some details about me from the stage so
[00:21] that I would truly believe that this was
[00:24] God. And due to this word, um, my ex
[00:27] almost took my life and I felt like I
[00:29] couldn't leave because of this word. And
[00:33] I've talked about it a bit before, but
[00:36] the reason it's really heavy on my heart
[00:37] this week is a YouTuber decided that he
[00:40] was going to do kind of like a breakdown
[00:42] and trying to shed light about the
[00:45] coverup culture going on at Bethl
[00:47] because they knew that he was a con and
[00:50] also that he had been abusing his staff
[00:53] and they still chose to not warn anybody
[00:56] about what this man was doing. So, I
[00:58] really just wanted to trauma dump on you
[01:00] guys and process the whole situation
[01:03] because it has been a lot. So, for those
[01:05] of you who are not familiar with Bethl,
[01:07] they are a church based out in Reading,
[01:09] California. And they are very popular
[01:11] due to their worship music. So, you
[01:13] might have actually heard Bethl music at
[01:15] your church or on the radio. And a lot
[01:18] of people don't know some of their
[01:20] crazier beliefs. And when I went out
[01:22] there, I did know that they leaned
[01:24] charismatic, but I truly didn't know how
[01:27] far it was going to go. Their whole
[01:29] mission is to bring heaven to earth. So,
[01:32] they are all about signs, wonders,
[01:34] healing, prophetic words, um raising
[01:37] people from the dead. They believe that
[01:39] anything is possible and that it is
[01:41] always God's will to heal. So, I went
[01:43] and did their school for a few years. I
[01:46] did two years out in Reading and then my
[01:48] third year was out in Pennsylvania where
[01:50] I interned for Georgian and Winnie
[01:52] Banoff and I thought that this was going
[01:55] to be a great internship. These are some
[01:57] pretty high up names in the charismatic
[01:59] circle and they are supposed to be more
[02:02] light-hearted and fun and that is where
[02:04] I ended up meeting my ex and where the
[02:06] whole Shawn BS thing happened. So, long
[02:09] story short, I started to date my ex who
[02:11] I am going to call Ted. And if you have
[02:13] seen my other videos about getting
[02:14] divorced because of a Walt Disney World
[02:16] burger, this is the same guy and that
[02:19] incident did lead to our divorce. And
[02:21] divorcing him was honestly like one of
[02:23] the scariest things I had ever done
[02:24] because I truly thought that this was
[02:26] God's will for my life. And I'm going to
[02:29] play you a clip of this prophetic word.
[02:32] I was at work at the time. I wasn't in
[02:34] the auditorium when this happened, but
[02:36] we had only been dating for two months
[02:39] at this point. So he was in the
[02:41] auditorium and he had actually met this
[02:44] prophet Shawn Bulls the day before. So
[02:47] we know now that he went home, looked up
[02:50] my ex, saw my name, saw where I worked
[02:53] on our Facebook because our relationship
[02:55] was on Facebook and he went up on stage
[02:58] and pretended like he had no idea and
[03:00] that this was all from God. So I am
[03:02] going to play that clip now.
[03:04] >> When you handed me the phone last night,
[03:06] um I saw 50, but I know that 50 is
[03:08] Jubilee year. And there's something
[03:09] about God's giving you a Jubilee. What
[03:10] does that mean to you? [cheering]
[03:15] >> Oh, your girlfriend's name is Jubilee.
[03:18] >> That's awesome. Well, God's giving you
[03:19] this girl. [applause]
[03:22] And when we ordered the food this
[03:24] morning, they the By the way, this is a
[03:26] huge huge advertisement in the midst of
[03:29] prophesying and it's a prophetic
[03:31] advertisement that that tomato pie cafe
[03:33] place is like level 10 awesome. and
[03:35] we've been eating there for the mornings
[03:37] and it's like they've been bringing us
[03:38] food kindly enough and they're amazing.
[03:40] But does she have something to do with
[03:42] the Tomato Pie Cafe? Does she
[03:44] >> she works there? Okay. [cheering]
[03:48] Jubilee from Tomato Pie Cafe.
[03:50] >> I actually just remembered that we had
[03:52] only been dating one month at this point
[03:53] because he proposed at two months. So I
[03:56] felt like this was confirmation from
[03:57] God. There was a lot of pressure from
[03:59] our church because he was one of the
[04:02] most respected prophets. Bethl was
[04:04] constantly platforming him. They were
[04:06] doing the forwards for his books. And I
[04:08] had no reason to think that this guy was
[04:11] a con. I mean, I didn't even know that
[04:13] that was something that people were
[04:14] doing. But we have found out recently um
[04:18] it has been coming out more that a lot
[04:20] of these prophets would look up the
[04:21] registration for the conferences and
[04:24] they would just look all these people up
[04:26] and they would from the stage call out
[04:28] people's addresses, phone numbers,
[04:30] screen usernames and they would say that
[04:33] this was from God and if you were called
[04:35] out it felt like you had won the lottery
[04:38] that God saw you. So when we got this
[04:40] word, it felt just absolute confirmation
[04:44] that this is what we should be doing.
[04:46] And um it has been very hard the last
[04:50] few years to process how much Bethl knew
[04:53] at this time and later on as well as the
[04:57] school that I was working for which was
[04:58] called Global Celebration School of
[05:01] Supernatural Ministry. It was kind of
[05:03] like a sister school. I ended up finding
[05:06] out that my ex had tried to sexually
[05:09] assault his ex-girlfriend the month
[05:11] before we got together and she had gone
[05:14] to leadership and I can't say for sure
[05:16] that Georgian and Winnie Banov knew
[05:18] about that. Um, but I do know that
[05:20] people who were related and who were
[05:23] head leadership at the school did know
[05:25] about that. So his ex went to them, said
[05:28] that this happened and they didn't
[05:30] believe her and um because he was just
[05:33] so well respected. Everybody loved him.
[05:36] He was kind of the all-star student at
[05:38] the school and they demoted her in the
[05:40] ministry. And then a month later, he
[05:42] starts to date me, a girl who is 10
[05:44] years younger than him. And I found out
[05:46] that he was going around and saying that
[05:48] I was his Disney princess, which makes
[05:51] me want to throw up now. Um, and just
[05:54] knowing how much coverup culture there
[05:56] was going on, nobody thought to warn me
[05:58] that this man was dangerous and all of
[06:02] this happened with Shawn BS. And I did
[06:04] not find out until probably 2020 or 2021
[06:08] that Shawn was a complete con. The week
[06:10] before I married my ex, he became
[06:12] abusive for the first time. He ended up
[06:15] hitting my car and calling me an effing
[06:17] bee. And I thought about calling off the
[06:20] wedding, but one, I didn't want to
[06:22] disappoint everybody, but the biggest
[06:24] thing is that I truly believe that this
[06:26] was God's will for my life. And he ended
[06:29] up being abusive again on the honeymoon.
[06:32] And it just got worse and worse from
[06:34] there. and he ended up strangling me
[06:36] twice during our marriage, which is an
[06:38] incredibly deadly form of domestic
[06:41] violence I couldn't swallow without pain
[06:43] for more than 10 days after the second
[06:46] time after the Disney World burger
[06:47] incident. And I feel extremely lucky to
[06:51] be alive. And that prophetic word really
[06:54] caused me so much fear because I was so
[06:57] afraid that I was going to go to hell if
[07:00] I didn't listen to what God told me that
[07:02] I should do, which I thought that was to
[07:04] be with Ted. Um, this is getting kind of
[07:07] long, so I'm going to make another video
[07:09] about what we have found out about Bethl
[07:11] and their response, their lack of
[07:12] accountability, and just some other
[07:15] crazy cover up things that they've been
[07:17] a part
