## ๐ Main Content
The CHAOSS Accessibility/Disability Inclusion Working Group conducted their first meeting of 2026 to establish goals and strategies for the year. The working group has evolved from a regional Africa focus to global accessibility initiatives spanning Europe, Asia, Latin America, and North America.
Key unfinished initiatives from 2025 include an open source accessibility webinar, Django Con outreach program, workshop development, and "Beyondtober Fest" activities. The group successfully conducted panel sessions at CHAOSS Con Africa but wants to add workshops in 2026.
Primary 2026 objectives center on community growth and accessibility implementation. The group aims to increase meeting attendance beyond their 2025 peak of seven people, recruit more people with disabilities as active contributors, and complete accessibility audits with full implementation rather than just assessments.
Strategic approaches include creating actionable GitHub issues for contributors, presenting at general CHAOSS meetings, partnering with organizations like Accessibility Nigeria, utilizing social media outreach, and hosting Twitter Spaces for awareness. The group emphasizes the importance of providing meaningful contribution opportunities rather than just raising awareness.

[00:00] Yeah, we're officially
[00:03] we're officially
[00:05] um open for business. That sounds very
[00:08] mechanical, but yeah,
[00:10] >> good evening. Welcome to the meeting.
[00:13] Happy New Year.
[00:15] >> Welcome to 2026.
[00:17] >> Yeah. So, we're officially open for
[00:22] for work in Chaos Disability Inclusion
[00:26] and Accessibility Group. open for
[00:29] contributions and actually excited to be
[00:32] back.
[00:34] Uh we have like an ice breaker ice
[00:38] breaker question.
[00:40] So I don't know I'll just go ahead and
[00:43] share this to
[00:50] share the link
[00:52] to the chat.
[00:57] Sorry.
[01:00] I don't know. I don't know why it's like
[01:02] this. I'm supposed to be able to do
[01:05] whatever I like.
[01:08] Okay. I don't know why it's Anyway, it's
[01:11] it's not laptop, so it's looking weird.
[01:14] But yeah,
[01:20] like this whole you're sharing thing. I
[01:22] don't want it to be showing. I like
[01:25] weird. Anyway, so I just I just sent the
[01:31] the
[01:33] link so you can just write your name and
[01:36] describe your year with one word. I mean
[01:39] up until November I would say mine was
[01:42] traumat was interesting. It was amazing.
[01:45] Then November the October ending it
[01:48] became
[01:50] traumatic but that's cool I guess.
[01:55] But I'm happy we're back. Uh,
[01:59] so we're pretty much supposed to start
[02:01] with
[02:05] uh this
[02:10] um
[02:12] I guess I cannot do this weird magic
[02:14] that I want to do right now. So I just
[02:16] have to leave this. So you're supposed
[02:18] to start with strategies. So, this is
[02:21] basically like a new
[02:24] the same template anyway, but a new
[02:28] uh sheet, right? A new document sheet
[02:32] for the year.
[02:34] >> Okay.
[02:36] >> Yeah.
[02:39] So,
[02:42] I think the first thing we supposed to
[02:44] do this year is to actually plan. But
[02:46] before then,
[02:48] before then we had like I think we
[02:50] already talked about summary of what we
[02:52] achieved and what we did. I think I know
[02:54] I was in the meeting. I wasn't speaking
[02:56] but I was I was in the meeting where
[02:58] Brian was
[03:01] Brian was the chair like the chair for
[03:04] the meeting and we talked about the
[03:06] things we had achieved in 2025 and the
[03:08] things we couldn't achieve. But just to
[03:10] like jog our memory, I'll love to take
[03:13] us back to
[03:17] to that document. So that's the document
[03:20] here.
[03:22] I think the goods were for the things we
[03:25] had, excuse me, we had achieved. Um the
[03:29] things we couldn't
[03:31] are the ones that are in gray, but the
[03:34] green goods are like the things we
[03:36] achieved. So, and I think um supposedly
[03:40] like
[03:42] should I say supposedly or should I say
[03:44] accurately
[03:45] uh the things we do not actually we
[03:48] obviously have to carry them over to
[03:53] this year right hopefully first quarter
[03:56] depending on what the plans are like so
[03:59] we have like open source and
[04:01] accessibility webinar we didn't have
[04:03] that
[04:04] right and it would be great for us to
[04:06] have that this year. So I don't know
[04:08] where we want to place that.
[04:12] So we still have to go to our drawing
[04:15] board and see what we want to achieve in
[04:17] the first quarter. So um this meeting is
[04:21] supposed to be
[04:23] preemptively basically like um talking
[04:27] about what we want to achieve in a year
[04:30] as like in total like what we want to
[04:33] achieve in a year in total. Then when we
[04:36] done talking about what we want to
[04:37] achieve in a year, we can now break it
[04:39] down into quarters. Right? So given that
[04:43] we have little attendees right now, we I
[04:47] don't know how much of that we are able
[04:49] to achieve. But what we are going to do
[04:51] is we're going to just mention a few
[04:53] things we want to
[04:55] achieve this year. If it's not so hectic
[04:59] for you, can you like um take notes?
[05:05] Okay,
[05:08] let me let me open my laptop.
[05:11] >> Okay, cool. So, um
[05:16] so this basic the things we did not
[05:18] achieve. We did not um do the open
[05:21] source and accessibility webinar. We do
[05:24] not um
[05:30] we did not do an outreach program around
[05:33] Jango corn
[05:35] for Jango corn in 2025.
[05:38] We did not do like um
[05:42] a workshop.
[05:45] We wanted to do a work something like a
[05:46] workshop. I I I forgot what event we
[05:50] wanted to put that in. Okay. It was it's
[05:52] supposed to be either the workshop or
[05:54] the panel session and we did the panel
[05:56] session. So I think we were not like we
[05:59] did not achieve what we wanted to but we
[06:02] have to just carry this over because we
[06:04] couldn't do two at once so we can look
[06:06] for a way to weave in this workshop this
[06:10] year.
[06:11] Then we were supposed to do like a
[06:14] beyondtober fest but I don't think we
[06:16] did. We did not.
[06:19] Uh it was supposed to be like um after
[06:23] October 1st, but fortunately I wasn't so
[06:26] active and I don't know how I don't
[06:29] think we follow through with it. But we
[06:33] can still push that into this year's
[06:36] October first and make it like a title
[06:39] of the October first um event we want to
[06:43] do or whatever. something the same thing
[06:45] that um the the uh
[06:50] technical writing working group usually
[06:52] does something like that. So we can do
[06:54] so we can borrow a leaf from them and do
[06:56] something similar to that
[06:59] >> during October 1st or after
[07:02] >> during October 1st. We can do like it it
[07:06] can be either during or after but I'm
[07:09] just saying we can just weave it in
[07:10] during that during that period
[07:14] since we didn't do it this year.
[07:17] then documentary.
[07:19] I do not know the idea that Brian had
[07:22] for this. It would be great if he
[07:28] um
[07:29] Sorry about that.
[07:36] >> I don't know.
[07:36] >> What did you say about
[07:40] >> Sorry.
[07:40] >> Sorry. What did we say about the
[07:42] workshop?
[07:45] the workshop. Which of them?
[07:47] >> Yeah,
[07:50] we said that it was either supposed to
[07:51] be a workshop or the panel session, but
[07:53] we did a panel session for Chaos Corn
[07:55] Africa. So, we can do a workshop this
[07:59] year.
[08:00] >> Okay.
[08:01] >> Yeah.
[08:03] >> So, um for the documentary,
[08:08] don't know the idea Brian had behind
[08:11] that, but we can always figure that out.
[08:14] We don't have to have everything figured
[08:15] out today. Today's our first meeting
[08:17] obviously and we still have like to get
[08:19] more ideas from other people attending.
[08:21] Looking forward to that in the next
[08:23] meeting. My bad. I did not get announced
[08:26] this.
[08:27] >> Yeah. For the documentary and every
[08:28] other like I I know that we obviously
[08:30] have more
[08:32] ideas. I'm just reading out some of the
[08:34] things we did not get to do last year
[08:36] that we might want to carry over this
[08:38] year. Yeah. But for this year, there are
[08:40] no exact plans yet. That's why we are
[08:43] having this meeting. So we can mention a
[08:45] few things then in our next meeting we
[08:47] can mention more then section them into
[08:50] quarters and arrange them in this
[08:52] document like so just like the one for
[08:55] 2025 currently is.
[08:59] So that's like basically it. So taking
[09:02] us back to the one we have for 2026
[09:07] is a bl is obviously a blank sheet. The
[09:10] only thing I left here is the October
[09:12] first and documentary, but it's a blank
[09:14] sheet. So, we have an opportunity to
[09:16] plan what we want our year to look like.
[09:22] Right. So, um
[09:27] back to the main document.
[09:31] Sorry.
[09:58] Okay. So,
[10:02] so for
[10:04] um
[10:06] let's start with what we want to achieve
[10:09] first.
[10:11] I skipped the new year goals to
[10:14] strategies. So, but then what do we want
[10:16] to achieve this year though?
[10:20] What are we looking to achieve?
[10:25] Uh I think one of the things we to
[10:27] achieve is to have maybe more members in
[10:29] our
[10:32] working.
[10:36] >> Yeah.
[10:41] Then obviously get more people involved
[10:44] with
[10:47] improving accessibility in open source.
[10:51] maybe the accessibility audit and all of
[10:53] that.
[10:56] >> Yeah,
[10:57] I know that has been on a pause for a
[11:00] while.
[11:02] So hopefully pick we pick it up
[11:06] um this year and do it better
[11:12] and finish it up completely.
[11:14] not just the audits but the
[11:17] implementations of the audits that are
[11:20] be being done.
[11:23] Um, personally for me, I'd say one of
[11:27] the goals I would like us to achieve
[11:29] this year is to get more people with
[11:31] disabilities in our community.
[11:35] And it's a good thing that we are now
[11:37] open to um having different regions work
[11:43] on their accessibility. So it's not just
[11:45] Africa, we're open to Europe,
[11:49] Asia,
[11:50] uh
[11:53] LATAM.
[11:56] >> Yeah. and other how many how many
[11:59] regions are currently at I feel like I'm
[12:02] supposed to know
[12:04] >> I've mentioned Asia yeah Asia Africa
[12:07] Africa Asia Latam um Europe
[12:11] >> Europe
[12:12] >> just for I just mentioned
[12:15] >> not America yeah so um
[12:20] to improve on their accessibility and
[12:23] I'm hoping that we take our first step
[12:26] this year in um Chaos Con Europe as well
[12:30] to see if we can make the event as
[12:33] accessible as possible. That's one of
[12:35] the things we want to achieve as a
[12:37] working group or as a team this year,
[12:40] this January. So, it's one of the things
[12:42] that we'll also discuss and see how that
[12:46] worked out and how we can use the ideas
[12:48] and the methods to improve other
[12:51] regions.
[12:53] that one you already mentioned that but
[12:56] a little bit of uh a little addition on
[12:59] that uh our audits and making our
[13:03] projects accessible of course through
[13:07] implementing the audits that are being
[13:09] made whether it's the website or the the
[13:14] badging website the official website or
[13:16] the badging website or other projects
[13:18] that we are currently working on or have
[13:21] been working on in the asked. Uh,
[13:23] another thing would be to make the
[13:27] community more accessible. Of course, I
[13:29] already mentioned having more people
[13:31] with disabilities join the community,
[13:33] and that's only going to be possible if
[13:36] the accessibility if the community is
[13:39] more accessible. I mean, the the
[13:40] community is doing amazing when it comes
[13:43] to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and
[13:47] accommodating people of different um
[13:52] cultures and regions.
[13:54] We also want to be very um intentional
[13:57] and particular about accessibility and
[13:59] disabilities as well.
[14:02] I hope we'll get to achieve that.
[14:05] >> Sorry.
[14:08] >> Blessing is here now.
[14:10] >> Who
[14:13] live?
[14:15] >> Blessing.
[14:16] >> Hi blessing. Good evening. Happy you're
[14:19] here.
[14:21] >> Yeah. Thank you. How are you and
[14:25] >> I'm fine. I'm fine. How are you doing?
[14:30] >> I'm fine too, thanks.
[14:34] >> Okay. So, um we're just pretty much
[14:36] talking about goals we would want to
[14:39] achieve this year
[14:42] and some strategies we can
[14:45] take to achieve them.
[14:49] So, we also stroll back a bit to the
[14:53] strategies and the goals we have for
[14:55] 2025, the things we did and the things
[14:57] we want to be carrying over into 2026.
[15:02] Um,
[15:05] and now we're talking about the goals
[15:08] for now. So
[15:12] um I mentioned
[15:15] having okay read mentioned having more
[15:18] people in attendance in our meetings and
[15:21] improving and I talked about increasing
[15:23] more people with disabilities in the
[15:25] community making
[15:28] um the community accessible across all
[15:30] regions
[15:32] not just Africa but Asia Europe Latam um
[15:37] North America
[15:39] not um yeah, North America and also
[15:43] talked about
[15:46] working more intentionally on the
[15:51] accessibility auditing and projects to
[15:54] ensure that projects in access in in
[15:58] chaos
[16:00] are accessible.
[16:02] we are implementing
[16:04] uh the
[16:07] audits
[16:12] made. Yeah. By the team. So I think
[16:14] that's where we are currently. I know
[16:16] that um you might want to chip in some
[16:19] things. I know Brian obviously has a few
[16:23] things he would want to add as his goal.
[16:25] So it would be great if he can join
[16:27] maybe next two weeks. But from your own
[16:31] end, what are some goals you think will
[16:34] be great for us to achieve
[16:37] this coming
[16:39] 2026?
[16:42] >> Bring this 2026.
[16:45] >> Sorry, this
[16:47] this 2026.
[16:49] My bad. This 2026, it feels so new. This
[16:53] 2026. Yes.
[16:57] >> Okay. Yeah. Thanks for the brief. Um,
[17:01] well, I think one thing that I've
[17:05] thought of, not really like, um, I know
[17:08] I think we did a podcast, although I'm
[17:11] not sure I remember, but I think we did
[17:12] a podcast the last time, right? Can we
[17:16] still do that podcast? The reading first
[17:19] of we have like do we have
[17:27] persons with disabilities
[17:30] in chaos community that maybe they
[17:33] contributors ability. So maybe we can
[17:37] podcast, maybe do it like an episode
[17:40] to feature maybe one or two contributors
[17:43] that have disabilities in our community
[17:47] to
[17:48] to
[17:50] um get to hear from them how they I
[17:53] don't know how best is it like how they
[17:55] are able to navigate in tech something
[17:57] something like that despite their
[17:59] disabilities.
[18:01] Um I don't know just saying
[18:08] >> yes so I think
[18:10] >> please can anyone hear?
[18:14] >> Yes I'm speaking can you hear me?
[18:20] >> Yes I can hear you now.
[18:22] >> Okay. I said of course that is a great
[18:25] plan. We can continue with the podcast.
[18:28] Um,
[18:30] we do want to have more people with
[18:33] disabilities
[18:36] be more interactive in the group. I
[18:38] think one person with a disability
[18:41] reached out one time in the group. I
[18:43] don't know. But the thing is because of
[18:46] um should I say we are relatively new to
[18:51] being intentional
[18:54] with people with disabilities
[18:55] specifically in the group. Not like we
[18:57] are not open to them. Like there hasn't
[18:59] really been a lot of talk about them
[19:01] specifically. So it's possible that they
[19:05] haven't reached out. It's possible that
[19:08] we have people who have disabilities
[19:10] that have not reached out yet. But I
[19:11] think a few people actually did at one
[19:13] point.
[19:16] I think one one person even joined the
[19:18] meeting at one point too. So which is
[19:21] why one of the goals is to get them more
[19:24] people with disabilities in the
[19:26] community and active as well because we
[19:30] made the community accessible to them to
[19:32] be active. Right. So we can obviously do
[19:36] that following
[19:40] our followup calls with people with
[19:42] disabilities.
[19:43] Are people with disabilities in the
[19:46] group in the community currently? Maybe
[19:50] not a lot but we have worked with a lot
[19:53] of people with disabilities
[19:56] directly and indirectly.
[19:58] We have organized an outreaching
[20:01] people about open source inviting them
[20:04] and all. And as a followup
[20:08] many people attended Chaoscon Africa. So
[20:11] we cannot say we are new to interacting
[20:13] with people with disabilities. So of
[20:15] course we can have them feature in
[20:17] podcast. All we just have to do is like
[20:20] a follow up make um make sure we provide
[20:23] room for them to actually contribute to
[20:25] actual projects on issues.
[20:28] Make them feel like they are
[20:29] contributing to open source in full
[20:32] because even for people who do not have
[20:34] disabilities contributing on their first
[20:37] issue can be a lot. I don't know what
[20:39] your experience was but for me when I
[20:43] got into in fact when I got into chaos
[20:46] sorry when I got into open source in
[20:48] general I got in and got out because
[20:51] there was a whole lot going on and I was
[20:53] confused until I decided you know what
[20:56] let me try again
[20:57] >> confused about navigating you
[21:01] >> right so imagine how it is for us who do
[21:05] not identify people with disabilities or
[21:07] do not have disabilities now imagine how
[21:09] much more difficult it is for someone
[21:11] who probably has um a visual disability
[21:16] that is also finding it difficult to
[21:17] even navigate Slack or communicate and
[21:19] stuff like that. So, it has to be like a
[21:22] followup call to make sure that they are
[21:24] comfortable with what they know and
[21:26] they're willing to interact and
[21:28] contribute. So, and that's one of our
[21:30] goals for 2026. Like it doesn't matter
[21:33] the number
[21:35] even if it's one two three people who
[21:37] are actively contributing interested in
[21:40] chaos and want to continue to contribute
[21:44] it is a big deal right awareness is one
[21:48] thing teaching a whole lot of people and
[21:52] then people who are willing to actually
[21:54] join and do the work is another I think
[21:57] that's one thing we should prioritize
[22:00] so yeah podcast. I agree with you.
[22:04] It's not difficult to get people who are
[22:07] contributing to open source to speak in
[22:10] in the podcast, but we need to get them
[22:13] to actually contribute to Chaos actively
[22:17] and actually enjoy contributing,
[22:20] right? And I know I would give Chaos
[22:22] that hand. and I'll give them that
[22:24] thumbs up because chaos the maintainers
[22:26] in chaos know how to make people excited
[22:29] about contributing to open source in
[22:32] chaos whether it's their first issue
[22:36] or not. Personally, Kinsley and Ruth
[22:39] made it easy for me to make my first
[22:42] issue and continue to contribute to open
[22:43] source because of the great community.
[22:45] So, chaos is good with that. So, we need
[22:47] to like extend our hands now and make it
[22:49] even more inviting for people with
[22:51] disabilities.
[22:54] So yeah.
[23:02] So um
[23:05] so that's pretty much what we wanted to
[23:07] talk about. So um I don't know if we
[23:10] should talk about strategies now given
[23:13] that we I feel like we still have a
[23:15] whole lot of stuff want to talk about as
[23:17] it concerns
[23:19] what we want to contribute like sorry
[23:22] what we want to um achieve rather this
[23:24] year like the goals we want to achieve
[23:27] this year
[23:29] I don't know is it right for us to start
[23:31] start talking about strategies already
[23:36] okay how out we talk a little bit about
[23:40] the strategies we want to go we want to
[23:42] follow to achieve some of the goals that
[23:44] we have
[23:46] um mentioned let's say for instance
[23:50] increasing the attend attendees or the
[23:53] attendance of people
[23:57] in our meetings
[23:59] right how do we intend to do that please
[24:02] ideas because I really want our number
[24:04] to grow like last year we stopped we
[24:06] were like the highest number we had was
[24:08] seven. I'm hoping we get like up to at
[24:10] least 10 people this year and starting
[24:12] off strong and starting with just three
[24:14] of us. I need our numbers to grow. Like
[24:16] how do we do that? How do we get more
[24:18] people to join? Please, please, please
[24:21] guys take it away. Um any friend, you
[24:23] can start.
[24:27] How do we get our numbers?
[24:30] Um
[24:32] maybe it could help by talking about
[24:35] um having a brief chat about it in the
[24:38] general meeting and maybe just
[24:43] chiming in once or twice um in one or
[24:46] two meetings that um this is what we do
[24:51] or this is what we are doing. because
[24:53] there are a lot of working groups. It's
[24:55] quite easy to like get lost in
[24:57] everything that is going on in chaos and
[25:02] um yeah, I think maybe talking about it
[25:05] in the working group or maybe dropping a
[25:07] Slack message.
[25:09] I'm dropping a message on Slack in
[25:13] um I don't know which of the channels
[25:15] would that be the general channel or the
[25:17] random channel. I don't know. I'm just
[25:20] talking about it. We're looking for
[25:22] contributors. if you have disability or
[25:25] something or you're interested in
[25:27] improving PWD
[25:30] um or improving accessibility in open
[25:32] source um currently looking for more
[25:35] contri
[25:37] not Elizabeth um Peculiar does has for
[25:41] the education
[25:43] working group where she just randomly
[25:47] drops messages on Slack um channels
[25:50] about the working group. I think maybe
[25:52] we could try that because we only meet
[25:54] like once in two weeks. So it's it's a
[25:58] lot of time for someone to forget that
[25:59] this is happening and then the next time
[26:02] we get a reminder that the working group
[26:03] is actually active, it's 15 minutes or
[26:07] 30 minutes to or maybe an hour to the
[26:09] meeting. Yeah. So um maybe like help.
[26:16] Yeah.
[26:18] And maybe not just dropping a
[26:21] um
[26:24] maybe not just a Slack message but maybe
[26:27] dropping a message that maybe show an
[26:30] activity or something that we're trying
[26:31] to do so that anybody that's coming in
[26:34] has has already thought about what um in
[26:37] a way they want to contribute. Yeah. For
[26:40] instance
[26:41] is dropping message about the education
[26:43] working group. She doesn't just say
[26:45] education working group um are looking
[26:47] for contributors. She says if you want
[26:49] to um we need help with creating content
[26:54] and printing video content, writing
[26:55] script um um proof reading the script or
[27:00] whatever, editing the script. Um so we
[27:03] have issues open and all of that. Um
[27:06] join us in the education working group
[27:09] and all uh to contribute. She does that.
[27:12] So if you could add an activity to it
[27:14] and be like okay an accessibility audit
[27:17] is going on. If you'd be interested in
[27:19] improving accessibility on the chaos
[27:22] website or something
[27:25] reach out to us in the um join the
[27:28] accessibility working group
[27:32] then or if you have any questions also
[27:34] just leave room for questions also cuz
[27:37] you know some people might be curious
[27:40] just leave room for questions. So I
[27:42] think that's what I'm thinking about and
[27:44] yeah I think that could be one way to um
[27:47] increase attendance. I don't think we've
[27:48] tried that yet.
[27:51] So yeah
[27:54] this is so thorough and I agree with you
[27:56] like I do agree with you totally
[27:58] especially the part where we can
[27:59] actually seek out um attendees from the
[28:04] general meeting because like you said a
[28:09] whole lot of meetings are going on. In
[28:10] fact, it's weekly. We is meeting week by
[28:13] week. After this week, a series of
[28:15] meetings happen and then next week
[28:17] another series of meetings. So, if
[28:19] you're not careful, it's a lot. But I
[28:22] agree with you with the fact that if you
[28:24] have a a way to contribute or if you
[28:26] have something to do, then probably you
[28:29] might want to attend a meeting, which
[28:31] makes sense. So, I think one way is
[28:34] creating
[28:35] issues for people to contribute to. And
[28:38] I feel like we have like
[28:41] a few things we can work on to create
[28:44] issues whether it's accessibility audit
[28:46] or whether it's a blog
[28:50] blog could be not fully like our our
[28:54] work maybe technical writing but
[28:58] getting ideas from the accessibility
[29:00] working group to write can be a reason
[29:02] to join like the call so I do agree with
[29:06] you we can we can work on that so let's
[29:08] maybe put that down like creating
[29:11] one strategy to create um issues people
[29:15] can contribute to and invite them by
[29:20] attending general meetings.
[29:23] Great. I agree.
[29:26] Blessing. What other ideas? Could you
[29:29] chip in
[29:39] Hi V. Hi. Can you hear me?
[29:42] >> Yes, I can.
[29:43] >> Okay.
[29:45] Yes. So, for me, I'm going to say since
[29:47] we want to like um create more
[29:51] awareness. I don't know
[29:54] if we can also focus our attention like
[29:57] creating awareness on social media since
[30:00] we don't we don't have like a specific
[30:02] number of people that have disability.
[30:05] So I think there's any possibility that
[30:07] there might be persons with disabilities
[30:09] that have not even known about the
[30:11] community more yet. So maybe we can do
[30:14] more um um awareness on our um social
[30:19] media pages, maybe Twitter, LinkedIn if
[30:23] we do have an account there to invite
[30:28] like um persons with disability to the
[30:30] community more.
[30:33] Probably many of them don't know about
[30:35] the community yet.
[30:39] >> Yeah, that's true. I also thought about
[30:42] that like we can work with the social
[30:45] media theme and look for a way to bring
[30:48] back Twitter spaces maybe monthly
[30:54] depending on how long we want our
[30:56] publicity to last.
[31:00] you know, emphasis on
[31:04] uh inviting people with disabilities and
[31:07] people interested in working with people
[31:09] with disabilities in contributing to
[31:11] open source projects and accessibility
[31:14] issues
[31:16] which still boils down to having
[31:17] accessibility issues created that people
[31:21] can actually contribute to.
[31:25] So yeah, that makes sense.
[31:33] There's also um there's also this um is
[31:37] it like community? I don't know. I've
[31:39] not read full information about it.
[31:43] Accessibility Nigeria. It's something we
[31:45] can partner with them to look for.
[32:00] Hi, can you hear me? Sorry, I I needed
[32:03] to test something. So, I was saying that
[32:06] um if we can look up this there's an
[32:08] accessibility I don't know whether it's
[32:10] a group or something. It's called
[32:11] accessibility Nigeria. if you can
[32:13] partner with them to like get I think
[32:16] they have um open source contributors
[32:18] that have disabilities or something.
[32:22] Maybe we can look it up more, get more
[32:25] information and see if it's something we
[32:26] can partner with them to get um
[32:30] contributors that actually have the
[32:33] disability that can maybe help boost the
[32:36] awareness of our community.
[32:41] >> Oh, great. Um, now that you mentioned
[32:44] it, we have actually partnered with
[32:46] Accessibility Nigeria a few times. We
[32:49] partnered with them for
[32:52] the bridging
[32:54] >> Yeah. Chaos Con Africa and the other
[32:57] projects. Yeah. So we can also keep do
[33:01] that again where we partner with them to
[33:06] um
[33:08] invite people follow up on actually have
[33:11] a few contacts on of people who attended
[33:14] chaos gone. I think one of the things we
[33:16] wanted to do that we we didn't follow up
[33:18] on was to reach out to those people on
[33:20] like a third call and say okay you were
[33:23] available for the actress program you
[33:26] even followed up and attended um chaos
[33:29] con would you like to contribute to so
[33:33] so project which again boils down to
[33:35] having projects available for people to
[33:38] actually contribute to right while
[33:43] both the maintainer and team members are
[33:46] willing to actually work with these
[33:48] people to make their first issue
[33:51] contribution. So amazing idea
[33:55] partnering with accessibility Nigeria
[33:57] and other access accessibility
[34:00] organization or disability inclusion
[34:03] organizations
[34:05] um to invite people firstand to
[34:08] contribute
[34:10] social media awareness and Twitter
[34:12] spaces. Amazing. amazing ideas. Okay,
[34:18] with this so far, I feel like I feel
[34:20] like um other people might have also a
[34:22] very amazing amazing idea. So, let's
[34:26] just leave that open for now and let's
[34:29] talk about strategies we want to use to
[34:33] achieve
[34:36] uh
[34:38] I feel like increasing number of
[34:40] attendees is pretty much works. It's
[34:42] pretty much like proportionate to or
[34:46] corresponded to increasing the number of
[34:49] people with disabilities in the
[34:51] community because if more people are
[34:54] attending we have more people in the
[34:56] community.
[34:58] Oh,
[34:59] >> it's small that
[35:04] >> Sorry. You were saying
[35:12] you were saying something.
[35:15] Oh, no. I was trying to confirm what you
[35:17] said that increasing attendance is
[35:20] synonymous to number of PW members. like
[35:23] the first point and second point are
[35:26] related.
[35:27] >> Okay. Yes.
[35:31] >> Okay. So the next point uh
[35:36] so for making chaos con Europe
[35:38] accessible with um myself
[35:43] pretty much just me because the whole
[35:46] planning stage was happening during the
[35:49] holidays and there was no meeting. So in
[35:53] as much as I was the accessibility lead
[35:54] for the project, I don't know if any
[35:57] other body um any other person
[35:59] volunteered to be part of the
[36:01] organizers, but it would have been great
[36:03] to be working with like accessibility
[36:04] team on it. But let me tell you what
[36:06] we're doing so far. Not like in details
[36:08] organizational
[36:10] um organizer information. I don't know
[36:13] if that's a thing, but like the main
[36:15] thing we're doing is we're trying to see
[36:17] if it's going to be possible for us to
[36:19] get sign language interpreters
[36:23] um available in the event. So we've done
[36:27] pretty much the dig the digital part of
[36:29] the accessibility which is um ensuring
[36:32] >> hold on one language with the sign which
[36:35] um sign language
[36:36] >> English
[36:38] >> it's Europe so they English speaking
[36:42] >> so so Europe
[36:45] so now it's going to be dependent on the
[36:47] language spoken in the region
[36:50] which is what I've been trying to get
[36:53] hold of my bad I actually got the
[36:55] contact, but I've not been able to reach
[36:57] out to the person just yet.
[37:01] But I will since the year has started
[37:03] now because to be fair, the person
[37:04] probably is going to be closed for work
[37:07] too because of the holiday. So, I didn't
[37:08] really reach out. Hold on, let me see.
[37:15] Oh.
[37:29] Yeah. So I got like a contact to reach
[37:30] out to somebody a community
[37:34] that has
[37:37] deaf people are connected to sign
[37:39] language organizations. So I intend to
[37:40] do that
[37:43] this before of course before the event
[37:46] see how that works right but we're
[37:49] working on that. Like I said, we've
[37:51] we've handled the one for the venue. We
[37:53] actually worked hand in hand with people
[37:54] in charge of the venue to make sure that
[37:56] the location was accessible. Um, also
[38:00] worked on that for the digital
[38:02] accessibility, providing accessible
[38:05] slides, giving
[38:08] accessibility pointers to speakers
[38:11] and of course volunteers will be will be
[38:14] briefed as well before the event. So
[38:17] that so we're going to be using of
[38:20] course Chaos Scone Africa was a yacht
[38:22] stick and we're trying to see if what we
[38:23] achieve with Chaos Con Africa we can
[38:25] achieve that with Europe and if that
[38:27] where else we can burden our
[38:31] our
[38:33] wings or whatever to other regions right
[38:36] so that's that because we're no longer
[38:39] like accessibility
[38:40] Africa sorry yeah disability
[38:44] inclusion accessibility Africa but like
[38:46] just accessibility. So, we're touching
[38:48] all regions. So, that's another thing
[38:51] we're achieving. Hope I'm not talking
[38:53] too fast. I am sorry.
[38:56] I am sorry. Hope it's not too fast for
[38:58] you any
[39:01] that for
[39:03] that's that for Chaos Corn Europe. Um
[39:08] there for a more accessible audit
[39:11] of course I intend to ensure that the
[39:18] myself and my my team members of course
[39:21] legal but just to hopefully we get to
[39:24] meet more people who are willing to um
[39:29] do audit. So someone actually reached
[39:31] out to me willing to be audit and
[39:33] amazingly she's a person with
[39:36] disability. Oh that just clicked. So I
[39:39] can this can be an opportunity for her
[39:41] to actually start. Oh
[39:43] see me with bright ideas. So I can just
[39:46] like I didn't remember this on time. She
[39:49] would have joined the meeting. and I'm
[39:50] sure she'll be like
[39:53] um willing to and stoked to join but
[39:59] so we in to increase the number of
[40:02] people actually doing the audit
[40:05] add more people
[40:07] and yeah
[40:10] so that's pretty much it. I guess that's
[40:13] all we have for today and funnily enough
[40:16] we we have actually covered a lot of
[40:18] things even though we were just a few
[40:21] people
[40:23] and I'm happy to be meeting with you
[40:26] guys this year and I hope this year is
[40:29] going to be amazing as amazing as last
[40:32] year even more amazing and we get to
[40:34] achieve a lot of things
[40:37] in the working group this year.
[40:40] >> Yeah. So does anybody have any other
[40:42] additions? So I'm going to obviously
[40:44] leave this open and thank god it's the
[40:48] minute is recorded so people can always
[40:49] go through leave this open for more
[40:52] addition and then we can officially
[40:53] create our strategy document which is
[40:57] going to be a guide for us to actually
[40:58] start work for the year. So any any
[41:02] additions before we come to the end of
[41:03] the meeting today?
[41:07] >> None for me.
[41:10] Okay.
[41:16] Byebye. You blessing
[41:26] is missing call.
[41:28] >> Oh no, she isn't.
[41:30] >> Oh, okay. I guess her internet or
[41:33] something.
[41:34] Okay. Oh, good. So this is where we come
[41:37] to the end of our meeting for today.
[41:40] Looking forward to seeing us in our next
[41:44] meeting.
[41:47] Yeah. Take care. Bye-bye.
[41:50] >> Yeah. Bye-bye.
