sectarian theology embedded in translation versus claimed divine inspiration. - **Bottom line**: TPT is a sectarian translation that embeds NAR terminology and theology into biblical text, created by someone without proper translation credentials who has made verifiably false claims about his background. ## 📖 Main Content Mike Winger conducts a systematic analysis of The Passion Translation, revealing how translator Brian Simmons has embedded Signs and Wonders/New Apostolic Reformation terminology into biblical text far more frequently than legitimate translations. ### Statistical Analysis of Embedded Terms Winger compared TPT usage of key terms against four established translations (ESV, NKJV, NIV, NASB): - **"Realm"**: ESV (0), NKJV (0), NIV (10), NASB (1), TPT (196) - **"Prophetic"**: ESV (4), NKJV (3), NIV (2), NASB (3), TPT (28) - **"Anointed"**: ESV (15), NIV (10), TPT (223) - **"Activate"**: All other translations (0), TPT (multiple uses) Overall, TPT uses these sectarian terms 300% more frequently than standard translations. ### Translation Methodology Issues The analysis reveals several problematic practices: 1. **Inconsistent word translation**: The Greek word "Christos" becomes "Christ," "Messiah," or "Anointed One" depending on theological agenda 2. **Double/triple translation**: Single words expanded into multiple phrases 3. **Addition of concepts**: Terms like "activate," "supernatural," and "realm" added without textual justification 4. **Theological embedding**: Acts 11:26 changed from "disciples were called Christians" to "followers of Jesus were first revealed as anointed ones" ### Questionable Credentials Investigation Winger interviewed Jerry McDaniels, a former coworker of Simmons with Ethnos 360 (formerly New Tribes Mission), revealing: - Simmons was a church planter, not a Bible translator - His role was as a "checker" who tested translations for comprehensibility - He left the field years before claiming in interviews - Ethnos 360 has distanced themselves from TPT with an official statement Simmons' claimed qualifications versus reality: - **Bio claims**: "Linguistic and biblical languages background" - **Interview admission**: "Minimal background in biblical languages" - **Doctorate source**: Wagner Leadership Institute (NAR institution) in "practical ministry with focus on prayer" ## 🗒️ Notes #### ⏱️ [00:03:12](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcRNFqUXLUQ&t=192) Statistical comparison methodology - Winger used Bible search tools to count specific term usage - Focused on New Testament only since TPT incomplete - Compared against four established translations for baseline #### ⏱️ [00:08:45](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcRNFqUXLUQ&t=525) "Realm" usage example - Normal translation: "Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth" - TPT version: "God's glory light shines out of the Zion realm with the radiance of perfect beauty" - Allegorizes geographical locations into mystical "realms" #### ⏱️ [00:15:30](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcRNFqUXLUQ&t=930) Acts 11:26 theological manipulation - Standard translations: "disciples were first called Christians at Antioch" - TPT: "followers of Jesus were first revealed as anointed ones" - Sets up false equivalency between Jesus and believers #### ⏱️ [00:22:15](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcRNFqUXLUQ&t=1335) "Activate" terminology insertion - Romans 12:6 TPT: "you must activate your gift by using the proportion of faith" - No Greek word justifies "activate" - Connects to Simmons' paid courses for "activating" gifts #### ⏱️ [00:28:45](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcRNFqUXLUQ&t=1725) Anti-religion bias - Translates "Sadducees" as "religious scholars" - James 1:26-27: Uses "relationship with God," "religion," and "spirituality" for same Greek root - All other translations translate consistently #### ⏱️ [00:35:20](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcRNFqUXLUQ&t=2120) Interview with Jerry McDaniels - Worked with Pai-Hakuna people for three decades - Confirms Simmons was church planter, not translator - Simmons left years before missionary murders he claimed happened "right after our departure" #### ⏱️ [00:42:10](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcRNFqUXLUQ&t=2530) Financial analysis - Books sold individually: $10-20 each - Bundle pricing strategies - Continuous revenue stream through piecemeal release ## 📚 References - [ESV Bible](https://www.esv.org/) - [New King James Version](https://www.biblegateway.com/versions/New-King-James-Version-NKJV-Bible/) - [NIV Bible](https://www.biblica.com/bible/niv/) - [NASB Bible](https://www.lockman.org/) - [Ethnos 360 (formerly New Tribes Mission)](https://ethnos360.org/) - Andrew Seed review: "Burning Scripture with Passion: A Review of the Psalms Passion Translation" ## 🗣️ Paraphrase Mike Winger systematically exposes The Passion Translation as a sectarian Bible version that deliberately embeds New Apostolic Reformation terminology into biblical text. Through statistical analysis, he demonstrates that TPT uses NAR-specific terms like "realm," "prophetic," "anointed," and "activate" hundreds of times more than legitimate translations. The investigation reveals translator Brian Simmons lacks proper credentials, having minimal biblical language training and a doctorate from an NAR institution in "practical ministry with prayer focus." A former coworker confirms Simmons was a church planter, not Bible translator, contradicting his public claims about translation experience. ## 📰 Newsletter 🚨 **Translation Alert for WordPress Community Leaders** As developers and content creators, we understand the importance of accurate, faithful translations—whether in code, documentation, or Scripture. **Statistical analysis** (throughout): Solid comparative methodology using multiple translation baselines strengthens credibility - **Historical verification** (35:20-42:10): Interview with independent source provides external validation of claims - **Pattern recognition** (15:30-28:45): Consistent examples of theological embedding across multiple books demonstrate systematic rather than accidental bias #### Fallacies - **Ad hominem potential** (credential analysis): While Simmons' qualifications are relevant to translation authority, focus on personal background could distract from textual evidence. **Fix**: Lead with textual analysis, use credential issues as supporting rather than primary evidence. - **Guilt by association** (NAR connections): Connection to Wagner Institute doesn't automatically invalidate translation work. **Fix**: Focus on specific textual problems rather than institutional affiliations. #### Tone of voice **Professional investigative tone** with appropriate gravity for serious theological concerns. Examples: "it pains me to say this because I don't like looking for these types of things but sometimes they need to be sought out and dealt with" shows reluctant but necessary critique. ## 🛡️ DARVO Analysis While this content primarily critiques rather than responds to accusations, some defensive patterns emerge: **Deny**: Simmons' biographical claims appear to minimize or deny lack of proper credentials through credential inflation and story enhancement. **Attack**: No direct attacks observed in this content, though TPT marketing implies criticism comes from "religious scholars" who oppose spiritual revelation. **Reverse victim/offender**: Simmons positions himself as receiving divine revelation that religious establishment opposes, potentially casting critics as opposing God's work rather than protecting biblical accuracy. ## 🎯 Conclusion The Passion Translation represents a systematic attempt to embed New Apostolic Reformation theology into biblical text through manipulated translation work. Statistical evidence shows 300% higher usage of sectarian terminology compared to legitimate translations, while investigation reveals the translator lacks proper credentials and has made verifiably false claims about his background. **Practical next steps for readers:** 1. Compare specific TPT verses with established translations before use 2. Verify translator credentials and institutional backing for any Bible version 3. Share statistical evidence with churches or ministries currently using TPT 4. Support established translation work through legitimate scholarly institutions 5. Develop discernment skills for evaluating religious content and claims The investigation demonstrates the importance of verification, transparency, and faithfulness to source material—principles valuable far beyond biblical translation work. --- ## Full Transcript [00:05] welcome to the Tuesday livestream today
[00:07] we are dealing with the passion
[00:09] translation specifically let me give you
[00:11] exactly what you can expect we're gonna
[00:13] deal with the origins of the passion
[00:16] translation and we're gonna be dealing
[00:18] with the specific agenda that's in it
[00:21] because this translation it pains me to
[00:23] say this because I don't like looking
[00:25] for these types of things but sometimes
[00:27] they need to be sought out and dealt
[00:29] with and this is one of those situations
[00:30] the passion translation as I've shared
[00:33] in a previous video has an agenda behind
[00:35] it and the agenda is to push specific
[00:37] types of doctrines and teachings that
[00:40] come from the from the signs and wonders
[00:43] the extreme signs and wonders movements
[00:45] some people call it the na r I don't
[00:47] usually use that term although I will be
[00:50] using it today and you'll see why in a
[00:51] moment
[00:52] I was able to actually do an interview
[00:54] with one of Brian Simmons co-workers a
[00:56] former coworker of his in preparation
[00:58] for this stream so I got to talk to
[01:00] someone who worked with him in the past
[01:01] and get some clarity on the actual
[01:03] history behind Brian Simmons and his
[01:05] training to do this translation so we'll
[01:08] talk about that as well and if if you
[01:11] have any questions you can put those in
[01:13] the livestream chat and AJ will will put
[01:18] those questions in a in a document
[01:19] basically sending those to me at the end
[01:21] of the stream I will do Q&A but I'm
[01:23] gonna front load all the important
[01:24] content because I want this stream to be
[01:26] fruitful to people like for a year two
[01:29] three five years from now I want them to
[01:31] be able to have the information they
[01:32] need and here let me just jump straight
[01:34] into it this is the information I'm
[01:35] talking about right here this chart that
[01:39] I'm showing you okay let me explain this
[01:41] what I did was I compared the passion
[01:45] translations usage of certain terms that
[01:47] are sort of hot-button terms in these in
[01:49] the extreme signs and wonders movement
[01:51] now I I believe in signs and wonders I'm
[01:53] charismatic but I'm not part of this
[01:55] group and I and these words and these
[01:57] terms are important in this group and I
[01:59] think what Brian did here's my theory
[02:00] brian has embedded these terms into the
[02:03] text of the passion translation and
[02:05] someone let me know hey Mike you can
[02:07] actually use the I think it was it was
[02:10] one of the Bible websites I forget right
[02:11] now which one it was but you can use it
[02:12] to actually search
[02:13] the text of the the passion translation
[02:16] so I did it here's what I came up with
[02:17] here's a list of terms which the passion
[02:20] translation uses more than any other
[02:22] translation I could find I've compared
[02:24] it to four other translations my first
[02:26] example to you is this in case anyone's
[02:27] listening on the podcast and you don't
[02:29] get to see this visual those on YouTube
[02:31] you get to watch it but on the podcast
[02:33] on the Bible thinker podcast so you can
[02:35] you can hear what everyone else is
[02:37] seeing I'll read it to you the first
[02:38] word is the word realm the word realm
[02:41] now the word realm does not appear in
[02:42] the ESV translation anywhere it's a
[02:44] highly respected translation it does not
[02:46] appear in the New King James the NIV has
[02:48] it 10 times the word realm the NASB has
[02:51] it once the passion translation has it
[02:53] 196 times the word realm 196 and let me
[02:58] say this this entire chart is all just
[02:59] based on the New Testament only because
[03:02] the passion translation is not yet got
[03:04] all of the Old Testament so I'm not
[03:05] going to compare those the word realm
[03:08] how you might ask how exactly is it
[03:11] being used well here's an example from
[03:13] the passion translation Psalm 50 verse 2
[03:16] the passion says God's glory light
[03:19] shines out of the Zion realm with the
[03:21] radiance of perfect beauty now in a
[03:24] normal translation it'll read more like
[03:26] this out of the ESV out of Zion the
[03:29] perfection of beauty God shines forth
[03:31] now Zion is a location we're talking
[03:33] about Jerusalem that's what that's where
[03:35] Zion is it's a place it's nothing else
[03:38] right it's a it's an actual place but
[03:40] Bryan thoroughly allegorized as in fact
[03:43] he says his whole interpretation of
[03:44] Revelation is all allegory and he
[03:46] allegorized as the Song of Solomon to
[03:48] make it about something different and he
[03:50] allegorize 'as other things and he does
[03:52] it in his translation so that he's not
[03:54] just interpreting it for you he's
[03:55] changing the text to fit with his
[03:57] allegory now he calls it a Zion realm
[03:59] now if now it works well when he's
[04:01] preaching this particular signs and
[04:04] wonders kind of preaching also we have
[04:07] Psalm 81 7 which in the passion is very
[04:10] long very very long much longer than it
[04:12] ought to be and it says you called out
[04:14] to me in your time of trouble and I
[04:15] rescued you I came down from the realm
[04:17] of the secret place of thunder where
[04:20] mysteries hide I came down to save you I
[04:23] tested your hearts at the place where
[04:25] there was no water to
[04:27] the place of your bitter argument with
[04:29] me pause in his presence now you caught
[04:34] all that right but here's here's it in a
[04:35] normal translation Psalm 81 7 the ESV
[04:38] says in distress you called I delivered
[04:41] and I delivered you I answered you in
[04:42] the secret place of thunder I tested you
[04:44] with the waters of Meribah Salah it is
[04:47] like twice as long or more in the
[04:49] passion translation and it takes this
[04:52] this concept of mists where mysteries
[04:55] hide and just anyway you get all of this
[04:59] sort of extra content this this this
[05:02] enhancement and this rephrase pause and
[05:04] his presence comes from the term Salah
[05:05] which I don't know anybody who thinks it
[05:08] means pause in his presence there is a
[05:09] debate on what it means let me give you
[05:11] another example now back to the chart
[05:14] other word prophetic is used many more
[05:15] times it's used four times in the ESV 3
[05:18] in the New King James twice in the NIV
[05:20] three times in the NASB 28 times
[05:24] prophetic is used in the passion
[05:26] translation and specifically in the Book
[05:28] of Psalms he talks about prophetic
[05:30] singing literally prophetic singing that
[05:32] let me let me give you I think I have
[05:35] that hmm maybe I didn't know I didn't
[05:40] write that one down
[05:41] in Psalms it's like 42 through 49 he
[05:45] adds the phrase prophetic singing into
[05:47] the description of the psalm there's no
[05:49] word in the Hebrew that he's getting
[05:51] this from in fact all the words that are
[05:53] translated in those songs are in other
[05:55] Psalms and he doesn't translate it that
[05:57] way right he only does it in Psalms 42
[05:59] through 49 calls it prophetic singing in
[06:01] Colossians 3:16 he talks about prophetic
[06:04] songs and this is because this
[06:07] terminology is part of this movement
[06:08] whether you call it the na r or
[06:10] something else now then the term
[06:13] anointed I'll give you a specific
[06:14] example of this one because this this
[06:18] finding this is what made me decide to
[06:20] do a second video on the passion
[06:21] translation exposing the specific
[06:24] agendas behind it because it does have
[06:27] specific agendas if I can I want to be
[06:30] as gracious as possible but this is just
[06:31] a factual statement here Brian Simmons
[06:33] is changing the Bible intentionally and
[06:37] unjustifiably in order to fit with
[06:40] his skewed sect that he is part of and
[06:43] he's piping it out to the world of one
[06:45] book at a time at $15 a book he's piping
[06:48] it out to the world and it's not okay
[06:50] and so more people need to know this so
[06:54] the word anointed in the passion
[06:56] translation is used 223 times that's
[06:59] like over ten times more than in any
[07:02] other translation I was able to find the
[07:04] word anointed right so the ESV has only
[07:06] 15 times the NIV ten times well here's
[07:09] some examples of where he adds the word
[07:11] anointed because this I think really
[07:13] matters okay now here's here's an
[07:18] example of how normal translations work
[07:20] right you have a word like in the greek
[07:21] the word Christos which means Christ we
[07:24] just translate it every time we come
[07:25] across that word we translate it the
[07:27] same way Christos means Christ it's a
[07:29] noun I'm just gonna translate it Christ
[07:31] every time okay so here's Colossians 1
[07:34] doing exactly that with the ESV version
[07:36] is an example of good translating Paul
[07:38] an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will
[07:41] of God and Timothy our brother to the
[07:42] Saints and faithful brothers in Christ
[07:44] at Colossae grace to you and peace from
[07:47] God our Father so there's just
[07:48] consistent translating but Brian likes
[07:51] to change up how he translates Christ
[07:53] sometimes he translates it as Christ
[07:55] sometimes it's Messiah some which is the
[07:57] the Hebrew version of that sometimes he
[07:58] translates it as Anointed One
[08:00] in fact most frequently it's anointed
[08:03] one here's an example of the same
[08:04] passage in the passion translation he
[08:08] says my name is Paul and I've been
[08:10] chosen by Jesus Christ to be his apostle
[08:12] so there's Christ the first time by
[08:14] calling and destin'd purpose of God my
[08:17] colleague Timothy and I send this letter
[08:19] to all the holy believers who have been
[08:21] united to Jesus as beloved followers of
[08:24] the Messiah
[08:26] right now it's Messiah and where is he
[08:29] translating it from I don't know it's
[08:30] only two times in the ESV it should only
[08:32] show up twice here but he double and
[08:34] triple translates things I'll come to
[08:35] that in a minute
[08:36] may God our true father release upon
[08:38] your lives the riches of his kind
[08:40] heavenly peace through the Lord Jesus
[08:42] The Anointed One notice that is over
[08:44] twice as long and you get Christ Messiah
[08:47] and Anointed One all from the same word
[08:49] which should just be translated
[08:50] consistently so I started wondering why
[08:53] translate
[08:54] Jesus as Anointed One because the word
[08:56] Messiah means more than Anointed One why
[08:59] take it to its etymological definition
[09:01] that doesn't make sense so I started
[09:04] looking into the passion more and how
[09:06] they used anointed one and then I came
[09:07] across this gem in the passion
[09:10] translation of Acts chapter 11 verse 26
[09:13] it says together Saul and Barnabas
[09:16] ministered there for a full year this is
[09:18] at Antioch equipping the growing church
[09:20] and teaching a vast the vast number of
[09:23] new converts it was in Antioch that the
[09:25] followers of Jesus were first revealed
[09:27] as anointed ones now and the passion
[09:29] it's very clear there's there's a
[09:31] spiritual revelation that the followers
[09:34] of Jesus are anointed ones okay so Jesus
[09:39] is called annoyed to went throughout the
[09:40] passion and now we're gonna call you
[09:43] anointed one Yura it's revealed by God
[09:45] you are an anointed one but every other
[09:48] translation just translates this and the
[09:51] disciples were first called Christians
[09:52] in Antioch because that's what it
[09:54] actually is that you see the the people
[09:58] in Antioch were making fun of Christians
[09:59] they called them little Christ's little
[10:01] little Christ's because they believed in
[10:03] Christ and are trying to copy Christ so
[10:04] they called him little Christ as an
[10:05] insult
[10:06] years later this became just the normal
[10:08] name for Christians it's like in this in
[10:10] the 80s or whatever was or seventies
[10:12] people were calling Christians Jesus
[10:13] freaks oh you're a Jesus Freak
[10:15] so some Christians were like fine I'm a
[10:16] Jesus Freak and they just accept it
[10:18] accepted the whole idea that's what
[10:20] happened with Christians the term
[10:21] Christians but in the passion he first
[10:24] translates Jesus as Messiah as Anointed
[10:27] One over and over again then or Christos
[10:29] actually and then when it comes to this
[10:32] phrase in Acts he reveals to you that
[10:34] you and me are anointed ones well what's
[10:36] the difference between me and Jesus
[10:37] well this what is this doing this is
[10:39] setting up weird Christology that Brian
[10:42] Simmons actually teaches so let me play
[10:43] for you a clip where he actually talks
[10:45] about how your identity and Jesus's
[10:47] identity are basically muddied to the
[10:49] point where well this is just bad
[10:52] theology listening that is your identity
[10:55] you are wrapped into Jesus Christ all
[10:58] the he is you now are everything that's
[11:03] true about Jesus can be spoken about
[11:07] because you are in him I'm sorry I just
[11:12] realized how loud that was
[11:13] I thought if I blew your ears out I'll
[11:16] try to monitor that so everything that's
[11:18] true about Jesus can be spoken about you
[11:20] so everything that's true Jesus is
[11:24] eternally existent self-existent and
[11:27] part of the Trinity is that true about
[11:28] me that's insane
[11:31] now you might say Mike you're taking him
[11:32] out of context actually this is a clip
[11:34] from his Facebook page like where he
[11:36] takes his own phrase out of context
[11:38] wherever he delivered this message and
[11:39] he delivers it I just want you to know
[11:41] this part and this is the part he gives
[11:43] us why well because it's been revealed
[11:47] that your anointed ones like this is his
[11:49] his theologies getting into the text of
[11:51] Scripture unjustified in the text so I
[11:54] checked with several other translations
[11:56] you can see him on the screen and they
[11:58] all consistently translate this that
[12:00] that it was an Antioch they were just
[12:02] called Christians not that we are now
[12:04] anointed ones and you might call me
[12:06] anointed in some sense but when you do
[12:08] what he's doing in his translation
[12:09] you're setting up false theology and is
[12:11] that a problem oh yes this is this very
[12:14] this is a real problem
[12:17] activate there's another word activate
[12:19] it's never found in any of the
[12:21] translations I consulted zero times
[12:23] ESV New King James NIV NASB none but in
[12:26] the passion translation the word
[12:27] activate is used multiple times here's
[12:30] an example in the passion translation it
[12:33] says in Romans 12 6 that if God has
[12:35] given you the grace gift of prophecy you
[12:37] must activate your gift by using the
[12:40] proportion of faith you have to prophesy
[12:42] you have to activate your gift now you
[12:45] can even if you don't know Greek you
[12:46] could look into Romans 12 6 and other
[12:49] translations in C there's nothing
[12:51] justifying the phrase activate your gift
[12:53] it just says to prophesy in proportion
[12:56] to your faith why does he use the weight
[12:58] the word activate here why does he add
[12:59] it six times well because that's his
[13:02] theology here's another clip from Brian
[13:03] Simmons because he likes to preach from
[13:05] his own translation with the theology
[13:07] that he's putting the new teaching he's
[13:09] putting in scripture I don't know what
[13:11] else to call this I this is this is bad
[13:16] this looks bad sounds bad because it is
[13:18] bad so here's the clip I hope it doesn't
[13:20] blow your ears off
[13:21] I'm not sure if I balanced the the audio
[13:23] properly on it so prepare yourself every
[13:26] member of the body of Christ must be
[13:28] activated everyone in this room is
[13:30] valuable every one of you have gifts and
[13:32] every one of you must leave this course
[13:35] when we finish a few years from now or a
[13:38] few hours from now that you leave this
[13:42] place
[13:43] activated to be enriched and to give
[13:46] others what you've been given okay so
[13:50] follow the logic here I change the Bible
[13:53] so it says you have to activate your
[13:55] gifts then I start hosting courses that
[13:57] you can pay money to be part of where
[13:59] you can get your VIP your gifts
[14:00] activated think about that the next one
[14:09] on the list expression the concept of
[14:11] expression is used 18 times Jesus is
[14:13] called the living expression instead of
[14:15] just calling him the word the word
[14:17] promised is used many times the word
[14:19] impart is used many many extra times now
[14:22] these are these are important terms in
[14:23] the signs and wonders movement if you've
[14:25] been part of it you recognize these
[14:27] terms you might you might even know
[14:28] better than I what terms to look for on
[14:31] I think was Bible hub now that I think
[14:32] about it I think was Bible hub was the
[14:35] website that I was looking at this stuff
[14:36] on the word secret is used many extra
[14:39] times over double the number times now
[14:41] notice something as you look at this
[14:42] chart the ESV New King James NIV NASB
[14:45] they generally translate each of these
[14:48] words a similar number of times it's
[14:50] usually within a few digits of each
[14:52] other right they're not not like 800
[14:55] times more or something like that but
[14:57] the passion translation in every case
[14:58] translates these terms way way more way
[15:02] way more than any of these other
[15:03] translations do so here we have you know
[15:08] if you'd if nothing else you don't know
[15:09] Greek fine you know this this
[15:10] translation is not like other
[15:12] translations this is very very different
[15:14] when it comes to the word religious and
[15:17] religion we find he adds the word
[15:19] religious many extra times adds the word
[15:21] religion also extra times and he I think
[15:25] has a specific agenda as to why I think
[15:28] Brian Simmons is anti religion as many
[15:31] people are nowadays
[15:32] so let me expose to you where
[15:34] two things are going on one is he's
[15:37] taking his his modern colloquial version
[15:41] of Christianity and sticking it into the
[15:42] text but also where he is intentionally
[15:46] not translating right and I can show you
[15:49] this he's purposely translating wrong
[15:51] because he wants to vilify the concept
[15:54] of religion as many people do so before
[15:57] I show you that let me just unpack this
[15:58] issue slightly some people say I don't
[16:02] know I'm a Christian but I'm not
[16:03] religious I will just say that's not
[16:06] what the word religious means like you
[16:08] you pray you worship God you read the
[16:10] Bible you fellowship you're religious
[16:13] like that's that's religion like this is
[16:15] religion and the Bible is consistent
[16:16] with this - if you think Christianity is
[16:18] not a religion you're confused now I get
[16:22] it we get a lot of mileage why don't but
[16:24] some people get a lot of mileage out of
[16:25] the phrase Christianity's not a religion
[16:27] it's a relationship well these two
[16:28] aren't opposite things you know it could
[16:30] be a religion with a relationship and
[16:32] that's what it is
[16:33] right Christianity's the thing that
[16:35] makes Christianity different from every
[16:36] other religion is that it's true that's
[16:38] the difference it's true and it really
[16:40] does unite you to God when you come
[16:43] through Jesus Christ to know him but
[16:45] it's still a religion we have beliefs
[16:47] about God beliefs about people we have a
[16:49] religious view of things and I am
[16:52] religious in that literal sense but
[16:55] Brian is gonna is gonna play off that
[16:58] concept where people go well I don't
[17:00] like I'm not religious because they feel
[17:01] like it's useful it's just useful but
[17:02] wrongheaded it's not true so here's what
[17:07] he does for one he takes the concept of
[17:10] religion and religious and he changes
[17:12] the term Sadducees in the Bible and he
[17:14] retranslate sit as religious scholars so
[17:16] here's mark 12 38 in the passion it says
[17:19] Jesus also taught the people beware of
[17:21] the religious scholars beware the
[17:25] religious scholars in Matthew 23 13 it
[17:28] says great sorrow awaits you religious
[17:30] scholars and you Pharisees I think this
[17:34] is the verse that's gonna get quarter to
[17:35] me for making this video like Mike
[17:36] you're such a Pharisee why are you
[17:38] religious scholars like Mike winger who
[17:40] want to think that they can tell us what
[17:42] the Bible should and shouldn't say can't
[17:43] you let the Spirit speak through Brian
[17:45] this is exactly what they'll quote back
[17:47] to me
[17:48] I think Brian is setting up basically a
[17:51] a catch-all phrase where he could come
[17:55] and say ah you scholars who don't like
[17:57] the passion translation you who attack
[17:59] this they're just being beware the
[18:01] religious scholars guys they want to act
[18:03] like they know stuff yeah
[18:05] but that's only part of it because when
[18:08] it comes to the other places you
[18:10] remember in the chart or I'll bring you
[18:11] the chart again look there's places
[18:13] where they do translate the word
[18:15] religious or religion you know the
[18:17] passion is 141 times it says religious
[18:19] well ESP has to you know the passion has
[18:22] 14 times this is religion
[18:23] ESV has five but there's one place where
[18:27] most every Bible will have the word
[18:29] religion and that place is in James
[18:31] chapter one so in James chapter one
[18:34] that's also the one place where Brian
[18:37] decides that he's going to not translate
[18:38] it as religion so here it is James
[18:42] chapter one verse 26 and 27 in the
[18:44] passion translation notice this he
[18:46] doesn't want to use the word religion in
[18:48] any positive sense he wants to vilify
[18:49] religion so that he can use that as a
[18:52] tool against people and then James 1:26
[18:55] it says if someone believes that they
[18:56] have a relationship with God
[18:58] catch that phrase relationship with God
[19:00] what's that word that that's a word that
[19:02] he will later translate as religion and
[19:04] then later translated as spirituality so
[19:08] if someone believes they have a
[19:08] relationship with God but fails to guard
[19:10] his words then his heart is drifting
[19:11] away and his religion is shallow and
[19:13] empty because you can only use the word
[19:15] religion in a negative context so there
[19:17] it is
[19:17] the word religion true spirit
[19:19] spirituality that should say religion
[19:21] that is pure in the eyes of our Father
[19:24] God is to make a difference in the lives
[19:26] of the orphans and widows and their
[19:27] troubles and to refuse to be corrupted
[19:28] by the world's values okay so that
[19:31] that's in that translation but but take
[19:34] a look at how this is used these words
[19:37] relationship with God religion and
[19:39] spirituality those are three phrases
[19:41] that in every other translation are
[19:44] translated consistently and every I mean
[19:47] every translation I check I don't know
[19:48] is probably at least a dozen maybe
[19:50] fifteen translations I checked here's an
[19:52] example here's the NRSV if you think
[19:54] you're religious he calls it spiritual
[19:56] or if you think have a relationship with
[19:58] God they translate it religious the same
[20:00] word later
[20:01] translated religion another offshoot of
[20:03] the same word same root word religion
[20:07] they translate it consistently in the
[20:09] NIV religious right religion right
[20:13] religion it's translated consistently in
[20:15] the NASB religious religion religion
[20:19] because you translate the same word in
[20:20] the same context in the same ways
[20:22] generally speaking then the ESV
[20:25] religious religion religion and every
[20:29] translation I checked which was quite a
[20:30] few I got the same thing
[20:32] however they translate the first time
[20:34] they see this word is the way they
[20:36] translate it later but the problem here
[20:38] is verse 27 makes it sound like there's
[20:39] such a thing as pure religion like
[20:41] religion that honors God and glorifies
[20:43] God which there is that's called
[20:45] Christianity you know but he doesn't
[20:47] like religion so that that gets
[20:48] eliminated that's part of his thing
[20:50] let's read on and stick with me because
[20:53] I'm gonna give you information I got
[20:55] from an interview with one of Bryan's
[20:58] co-workers when he was supposedly
[21:00] translating the Bible in the past and I
[21:02] think it was very revealing
[21:05] so just to stick with me for that you're
[21:07] gonna want to hear what what uh what his
[21:09] co-worker had to say so also let's see
[21:13] revelation the word revelation is used
[21:15] almost ten times more often in the
[21:18] passion translation the word passion of
[21:20] course of course the word passion is
[21:22] used it's used in the passion
[21:24] translation ninety five more times than
[21:26] it is used in the NASB does that not
[21:30] mean anything to you it's only used ten
[21:32] times in the history the word miracle is
[21:34] used far out far more often the word
[21:36] freedom the word free spiritual
[21:38] supernatural the word supernatural
[21:40] doesn't show up in any of those
[21:41] translations anywhere the four I'm
[21:43] mentioning but in the passion thirty
[21:44] seven times it pops up empower comes 40
[21:47] different times in the passion and add
[21:50] all these totals together what you get
[21:52] is that Brian Simmons is actually
[21:54] translating these words over three times
[21:57] more often 300% more in the passion
[22:00] translation than in the nsv enas you
[22:03] mean ESV overall 300% more that's that's
[22:09] pretty significant because these are all
[22:10] hot-button terms for his particular sect
[22:13] so it's a sectarian translation
[22:15] now what I think's happening when you
[22:18] look at the Bible in the passion
[22:20] translation is you're it's like you're
[22:22] looking at a funhouse mirror you know
[22:23] those mirrors where they're curved and
[22:24] you look at yourself and you have this
[22:26] exaggerated version where some things
[22:28] are shrunken down and other things are
[22:29] enlarged and that's what you get in the
[22:32] passion translation this is why you
[22:33] should not read this Bible at all for
[22:35] any reason you will get a distorted
[22:38] version of the Bible where some things
[22:39] are blown out of proportion and others
[22:40] are shrunk down you're gonna get a
[22:42] skewed version of God I predict if you
[22:45] read this passion translation or have
[22:47] for any length of time it is muddied
[22:49] your ability to think clearly about God
[22:52] because that's exactly what it does when
[22:54] I read it it's it's not healthy it's not
[22:57] good now let's talk about the second
[23:00] issue I wanted to deal with today oh
[23:06] well I have a clip I want to show this
[23:09] clip with you before we get into that
[23:10] Bryan's qualifications for translating
[23:12] before we get to that and his
[23:13] storytelling where I tried to
[23:15] double-check some of his stories and it
[23:16] did not appear to be true but first I
[23:19] want to show you how he uses this
[23:20] passion translation remember he adds the
[23:22] word release let's see the word release
[23:24] comes up oh I should have done it more
[23:28] okay well I didn't I didn't put on the
[23:30] chart but the word release comes up and
[23:31] it's a calling of fivefold ministry is
[23:33] to release the sheep who let the Sheep
[23:36] out and release them into their ministry
[23:39] if you are not releasing people to
[23:42] ministry you're not functioning in your
[23:44] grace gift those terms releasing people
[23:47] to ministry fivefold ministry grace gift
[23:50] all that stuff is foreign to you if
[23:52] you're just a normal Christian who reads
[23:53] the Bible but none of those things are
[23:55] foreign to you if you're part of his
[23:57] little sect group and they get their way
[23:58] into his text and then he can preach
[24:00] from it and they can preach from it this
[24:02] is why guys like Bill Johnson endorsed
[24:05] the passion translation Bill Johnson
[24:08] let's see how that right here he says
[24:10] can you see me guys one of the greatest
[24:13] things that happen with the Bible
[24:14] translation in my lifetime
[24:16] bill Johnson the passion translation is
[24:18] one of the best things to happen in his
[24:20] lifetime that's a problem why why would
[24:25] bill love it if he's a guy that really
[24:27] knows the word and cares about back
[24:29] teaching the Bible why would he endorse
[24:31] why would anybody endorse his
[24:33] translation
[24:33] well the endorsers are generally
[24:35] speaking people who are part of the same
[24:37] movement they're this sectarian in a are
[24:40] some would call them in AR I don't know
[24:41] if I would call Bill Johnson na or not
[24:43] but definitely Bryan is which I'll get
[24:45] to that in a minute okay so they they
[24:48] like to do these things now let's talk
[24:50] about Bryan's educational background
[24:53] when you try to you know verify and
[24:54] someone asked me to do this he might
[24:56] look into his his background is he
[24:58] qualified to translate the Bible in the
[24:59] first place well when you look at his
[25:02] bio on Broad Street publishing which is
[25:04] the people who published the translation
[25:06] it says that Bryan was involved in the
[25:08] PI hakuna New Testament translation
[25:10] project and he studied linguistics and
[25:13] Bible translation principles with new
[25:14] tribes mission so it seems like okay
[25:17] Bryan has studied how to translate the
[25:19] Bible with new tribes mission which is a
[25:22] known Bible translating like group they
[25:24] do this sort of thing and he and he did
[25:26] this with the PI hakuna New Testament on
[25:29] his bio for the on passion and fire com
[25:32] one of his websites this is what it says
[25:34] there it says that while he was there in
[25:36] in the PI hakuna village he says I was
[25:39] involved as a linguist in the
[25:41] translation project of the New Testament
[25:42] into the PI hakuna language okay so he's
[25:45] obviously if nothing else he's
[25:47] instrumental in the translating on the
[25:50] passion translation calm the official
[25:51] website for the passion translation
[25:53] here's what it says about Brian Simmons
[25:56] is this dr. Brian Simmons notice doctor
[25:59] they're calling him doctor in the
[26:00] context of all this is the lead
[26:02] translator for the passion translation
[26:03] his background in translating the Bible
[26:05] originated as a co translator for the
[26:08] Kuna New Testament with new tribes
[26:10] mission providing the unreached Piatt
[26:12] Kuna people group of Panama with a copy
[26:14] of God's Word for the first time since
[26:17] then he has leveraged this linguistic
[26:19] and biblical languages background
[26:22] remember that phrase that he's
[26:24] leveraging his quote linguistic and
[26:26] biblical languages background to
[26:28] translate the entire New Testament and
[26:30] four books of the Old Testament into
[26:32] modern English so if I was to summarize
[26:36] like what have I learned so far I've
[26:37] learned that look the guy's got training
[26:39] in translating the guy's already helped
[26:42] translate
[26:42] the pie hakuna he was a co translator so
[26:44] he was instrumental in translating the
[26:46] Bible already and so now he's just doing
[26:48] in other English translations so that
[26:50] that's what I've learned in fact you
[26:52] know he's got that biblical language his
[26:53] background in linguistics and all this
[26:54] stuff it sounds very impressive but but
[26:58] there's a big there's a big but in all
[27:01] this no pun intended in 2003 to 2007 he
[27:07] went to the Wagner Leadership Institute
[27:08] this is where his doctorate came from my
[27:10] first question is he's a doctor doctor
[27:11] of what right there's lots of different
[27:12] ways to be a doctor
[27:13] some people just play one on TV but in
[27:16] 2003 to 2007 he went to the Wagner
[27:19] Leadership Institute and this is when my
[27:21] red flag went up because I thought
[27:23] Wagner
[27:23] that's see Peter Wagner that's the guy
[27:26] that actually coined the term New
[27:28] Apostolic Reformation and started trying
[27:31] to get the ball rolling to create the na
[27:34] r he got his doctorate from an na r
[27:38] school quite literally his doctorate
[27:41] though is in practical ministry with a
[27:44] focus on prayer what does that even mean
[27:48] practical ministry with a focus on
[27:50] prayer like if I write a dissertation on
[27:52] prayer is that am i a doctor do I have a
[27:54] doctorate I don't know I don't know what
[27:57] what what education he really got I
[27:59] don't know how if he really legitimately
[28:02] should even be called a doctor certainly
[28:04] not in the context of relating to his
[28:06] translating abilities because his
[28:07] doctorate has nothing to do with
[28:09] anything related to translation so it's
[28:12] not his doctorate right but what other
[28:16] education does he have cuz he only
[28:17] mentions one other thing and he mentions
[28:19] it all the time I've listened to several
[28:20] interviews from Brian Simmons and he
[28:22] says that he used to go and be with and
[28:25] live with the paya Kuna people and he
[28:27] helped translate I at first I thought he
[28:29] was the sole translator of the New
[28:31] Testament for them later I listened to
[28:32] more content realized he said he was a
[28:34] co translator and this was from 1973 to
[28:37] 1978 according to his BIOS online he was
[28:41] with the new tribes Bible and linguistic
[28:42] Institute this group now calls
[28:45] themselves ethnos 360 and this group is
[28:48] the people I was actually able to talk
[28:50] to to one of his former co-workers Gerry
[28:52] McDaniels who is with ethnos 360 former
[28:56] new tribes so we're gonna talk about
[28:57] that but bottom line is this I'll give a
[29:00] spoiler alert right now he has not
[29:03] trained to be a translator he has not
[29:05] trained in the biblical languages and
[29:07] that phrase let me bring it up again
[29:10] here is from the actual official website
[29:12] for the passion translation and it says
[29:14] he leveraged his linguistic and biblical
[29:16] languages background to translate the
[29:18] New Testament and in four other books
[29:21] here is what he actually said when I
[29:23] heard him on an actual radio interview
[29:25] or some some program interview it's
[29:27] online and he was asked what training
[29:30] specifically in the biblical languages
[29:31] have you had listened to his answer
[29:33] because it's not what you'd expect based
[29:35] on all those BIOS and all those claims
[29:40] listen as soon as I can find it in my
[29:42] notes hmm
[29:47] it's not that
[29:53] this is where it's like yes I'm
[29:55] definitely a solo act okay we did that
[30:01] we did that ah there it is his
[30:06] qualifications all right sorry for the
[30:07] delay here it is when you when you
[30:10] started this project were you had you
[30:13] already had training in Greek and Hebrew
[30:16] or was this something that you had to
[30:19] jump into again or I had minimal
[30:22] background in biblical languages so yeah
[30:26] it was something that honestly something
[30:28] the Lord has really helped me with okay
[30:31] great
[30:34] minimal he says he had minimal
[30:37] background and it was something the Lord
[30:39] had to help him with and the answer is
[30:40] great because he's when Brian's in an
[30:42] environment I've seen many of his his
[30:44] clips you know when he's an environment
[30:46] where he has a flexible audience who
[30:48] will bend to what he says he reveals
[30:51] more and these are the signs of a
[30:54] storyteller these are the signs of
[30:55] someone who's not being honest about
[30:57] things right like your bio says you have
[30:59] a biblical languages background that you
[31:01] used to translate so I'm relying on that
[31:03] this this ethnos 360 training now don't
[31:06] don't knock at snows 360 this is not
[31:08] about them this is about Brian and his
[31:10] claims not them in fact ethnos 360 has
[31:15] come out with a statement distancing
[31:16] themselves from the passion translation
[31:18] because he keeps making these claims as
[31:20] though they trained him to do it and
[31:21] they're like no we didn't so when I've
[31:23] got a hold of his former coworker I
[31:28] found out that this was this was not the
[31:31] case that he had not been he had not
[31:34] been trained in translating at all but
[31:37] but let's compare shall we let's compare
[31:40] his storytelling cuz this is the thing
[31:41] that really got me I don't think Brian's
[31:43] I don't think he's honest and I think
[31:46] that I can show that to you today
[31:47] so look at some of the claims he makes
[31:50] on Sid Roth Sid Roth's radio program and
[31:52] listen to these claims and I've actually
[31:54] written them out for you but listen to
[31:56] the claims because then I'm gonna come
[31:57] back right after this clip and I'm gonna
[31:59] I'm gonna double check those claims and
[32:01] we'll see if the picture he paints is
[32:03] accurate about his own history and
[32:05] ability to
[32:06] translate for a central American tribe
[32:09] you actually worked for Wycliffe Bible
[32:13] Translators and produced for the first
[32:16] time in history a Bible in their
[32:19] language yes it was with new tribes
[32:23] mission along with the Wickliffe Bible
[32:26] Translators and yes I always want to to
[32:30] make it clear that I was a code
[32:31] translator take such a team to bring the
[32:34] scriptures into a tribal language and
[32:36] I'm so thankful for the South African
[32:37] friend that was there in a nearby
[32:41] village that could work with us to
[32:43] translate now what difference did it
[32:45] make when they got the scriptures in
[32:48] their own language oh my you know said
[32:52] they had never read anything in their
[32:55] life so we not only to give them the
[32:57] scriptures we had to teach them literacy
[32:59] so that they could read their own
[33:00] language it had been an unspoken or an
[33:03] unwritten language I should say until we
[33:05] got there and we finalized the link the
[33:08] Book of Luke the book of Romans what a
[33:11] joys to hand them a completed New
[33:13] Testament and what kind of fruit have
[33:17] you seen as a result of that well our
[33:21] missionaries had been kidnapped and
[33:23] killed right after our departure from
[33:25] the village Colombian drug cartel came
[33:28] in with automatic weapons kidnapped
[33:31] the remaining missionaries and shot them
[33:34] in the jungle bodies were never found
[33:37] okay the reason why I played that whole
[33:39] clip is so you can catch a few things
[33:41] let me just recap for you and and those
[33:43] you know you're watching this online you
[33:44] can just back up and listen to it again
[33:46] if you if you didn't catch this he says
[33:48] he was a co translator he doesn't take
[33:50] all the credit but it seems clear at
[33:52] least normal people watching the
[33:53] interview were like obviously he was
[33:55] central he was somehow essential in the
[33:57] translating right he was enough where he
[33:59] can claim some version of credit to be a
[34:01] CO translator to the New Testament was
[34:04] finished while Bryan was still involved
[34:05] right he had the pleasure of handing
[34:07] them the New Testament in their own
[34:09] language the quote he said was what a
[34:11] joy to hand them a completed New
[34:13] Testament that's what Bryan says then at
[34:15] the end he talks about this a terrible
[34:18] tragedy true story where the
[34:19] cherries were killed and he says it
[34:21] happened right after their departure
[34:22] were these these paya Kuna missionaries
[34:24] the Kuna missionaries that went out they
[34:26] were kidnapped in January of 1993
[34:28] actually looked this all up and
[34:30] confirmed it historically right so in 19
[34:33] 1993 January is when they they were
[34:37] kidnapped and then later killed and that
[34:41] means that he was out of there moments
[34:43] before them because he says missionaries
[34:45] were killed right after our departure
[34:48] so maybe late 92 he left December
[34:51] September of 92 so I decided to try to
[34:54] double-check all these claims in his bio
[34:56] and his claims and his interviews and I
[34:58] was able to get a hold of a really nice
[35:00] gentleman named Jerry McDaniels now let
[35:02] me say this before I say anything else
[35:04] Jerry McDaniels it grieved him to have
[35:08] to do this he has no ax to grind against
[35:10] Bryan and he didn't want to come across
[35:13] in any negative way but he thought he
[35:15] should share what what facts he had and
[35:17] so Jerry McDaniels has worked with the
[35:20] PI hakuna people for over three decades
[35:22] okay he's work with the Kuna for over
[35:25] three decades well the whole time from
[35:27] them getting their New Testament to
[35:29] finally years later just recently
[35:30] getting their old testament in like 2014
[35:32] they finally got the old testament and I
[35:35] asked him a few questions I asked him a
[35:37] few questions for one was Bryan there
[35:40] right up until just before those
[35:43] missionaries were killed and Jerry
[35:45] McDonald says no Bryan had left years it
[35:47] was years before 1993 it was years
[35:50] before the missionaries were killed but
[35:51] Bryan wanting to enhance his story makes
[35:54] it sound to the unsuspecting people who
[35:56] believed him that he was up there right
[35:58] up to the last minute because it makes
[36:00] him more of like a hero or something
[36:01] like that but then it God the
[36:05] conversation got worse because when I
[36:07] asked Jerry what did Bryan do when it
[36:11] came to translating the Bible he says
[36:13] Bryan wasn't a Bible translator that
[36:16] wasn't his job with the Kuna people he
[36:18] was not there to translate the Bible he
[36:19] was a church planter that's what Jerry
[36:22] McDaniels said Jerry who worked with him
[36:25] says he was a co-worker of Bryan's says
[36:28] the Bryan's claimed about when he left
[36:30] that that's not accurate and he says
[36:32] that the most
[36:33] the two things Brian did it would
[36:35] related in any sense to the Kuna
[36:36] translation is he was a checker of which
[36:39] there were many checkers but what they
[36:40] did they're not part of the official
[36:41] translating team but what they did was
[36:43] they would take the Bible after someone
[36:45] already translated it into the languages
[36:47] pi hakuna they would bring it to the
[36:49] people and they would read to them that
[36:51] translation and see how it lands then
[36:53] they would report back did they
[36:54] understand it how did they feel about it
[36:56] did it make sense to them that was it
[36:58] they were a checker this is a person
[37:00] living in the village who would
[37:01] according to Jerry it would sit with
[37:04] someone read it make sure it sounds
[37:06] natural other than that he thought it
[37:08] was possible that Brian might have done
[37:10] some work on Genesis some work on
[37:12] Genesis but then Genesis the Old
[37:15] Testament wasn't until just a few years
[37:17] ago 2014 so we're talking whatever work
[37:21] if he worked on a book that book never
[37:22] got published until very recently and
[37:24] obviously someone else didn't the
[37:26] majority of the work and finished it
[37:28] again the ethnos 360 has distanced
[37:31] themselves and they've actually written
[37:32] a statement I'm gonna get a hold of this
[37:33] statement hopefully tomorrow Jerry's
[37:35] gonna send it to me and I'm gonna
[37:37] actually I'll make a short video where I
[37:39] just put that up on my YouTube channel
[37:40] so you could bet you could search you
[37:42] know like ethnos 360 or new tribes
[37:44] statement about Brian Simmons I'll put
[37:45] that up online once I get it but but
[37:49] Jerry would just says and I'll give you
[37:50] some quotes from him he says when Brian
[37:53] arrived with the pie hakuna quote there
[37:55] was already a Wycliffe missionary in
[37:58] country already actively working on a
[38:00] translation and it wasn't Brian he says
[38:04] quote Brian was a church planter and
[38:07] quote nobody in our mission would ever
[38:11] say that he's a Bible translator or ever
[38:13] was approved as a Bible translator this
[38:17] is the guy who's translate you know it
[38:19] that's why it makes sense right on the
[38:21] bio it's got like he leverages his Bible
[38:23] background from the and then over it
[38:25] when he's in an interview he goes I had
[38:26] very little background and I had to rely
[38:28] on the Holy Spirit because he's trying
[38:30] to stretch the story to sort of fit
[38:32] whatever scenario he's in my thought is
[38:35] this if you can't trust his stories you
[38:37] can't trust his visions think about this
[38:40] if you think the passion is inspired of
[38:43] God because Brian's like God's Rhian
[38:44] spired someone else to change the Bible
[38:46] like
[38:47] that's exactly the opposite of how this
[38:50] works God's already inspired the
[38:52] Scriptures they're not to be changed and
[38:54] meddled with and that's what's happening
[38:56] in this translation so then you might
[38:58] ask okay well what um what do we what
[39:01] are we looking at as far as why is he
[39:03] doing this
[39:03] why is he why is he even doing this
[39:06] what's going on I think that it's pretty
[39:08] clear he's making a sectarian
[39:10] translation to support this Wagner
[39:13] Institute na our signs & wonders thing
[39:16] that's why you get support from Bill
[39:17] Johnson Cheon and all these different
[39:19] guys that are part of that movement that
[39:20] are very questionable and they're
[39:22] teaching their theologies and especially
[39:23] in the things they do in church and how
[39:25] they change churches in strange ways but
[39:29] also when it comes to money that was the
[39:30] question right what about the money side
[39:31] of things you know this this passion
[39:33] translation comes out one book at a time
[39:35] very slowly and so when he first made
[39:38] the Book of Psalms you could buy that
[39:39] for 20 bucks then he makes the book of
[39:41] Proverbs and you can buy that one now
[39:42] for another 15 dollars Song of Songs
[39:45] comes out and that's ten dollars then
[39:47] you can get proverbs Psalms and Song of
[39:50] Songs together for a $25 bundle then he
[39:53] over time as John for 15 bucks that you
[39:56] could buy it separately then you can buy
[39:57] matthew for 15 then Luke that's another
[39:59] 15 Luke and acts together then the book
[40:01] of Romans is 15 dollars then he starts
[40:03] clustering books you know Galatians
[40:04] Ephesians Philippians Colossians first
[40:06] and second Timothy 15 bucks you can get
[40:08] that online first and second Corinthians
[40:09] together can you guess fifteen dollars
[40:12] Revelation 15 dollars then you have an
[40:15] eighth book boxed set that has Psalms
[40:17] proverbs Song of Solomon Matthew Luke
[40:19] acts John the six six of the pauline
[40:22] letters hebrews and james for $90 you
[40:25] can get that big bundle then you have
[40:28] Psalms proverbs as a Song of Solomon and
[40:30] the entire New Testament anywhere from
[40:32] 20 to 60 dollars because of the
[40:34] different you know styles and then and
[40:36] what it was he coming out with next in
[40:38] November you can buy the Book of Isaiah
[40:39] it's for another 15 dollars and then
[40:41] it'll be what I don't know Genesis for
[40:43] another 15 20 bucks and then it's gonna
[40:45] be Jeremiah for another 15 20 bucks and
[40:48] he'll just keep doing this piece Mealing
[40:50] out the Bible and providing himself with
[40:52] a really healthy living I don't know
[40:55] anyone else who's ever done this sort of
[40:57] translating where you put with a Bible
[40:59] out one book at a time
[41:00] and you basically milk people for lots
[41:03] and lots of money that's one of the
[41:06] things that are going on I was asked
[41:07] last time I did a stream on this topic
[41:09] do I think he'll continue and I thought
[41:10] he'd quit because what does he care
[41:12] about the old testament anyway it's not
[41:13] really important in their movement in my
[41:16] opinion but I realized oh he this is
[41:18] this is his job security I'm he's just
[41:20] gonna keep putting out books and making
[41:21] money off of them that's how it seems to
[41:23] me and it makes me it makes me want to
[41:25] cry
[41:26] the Bible is smart and very specific
[41:29] it's written in very specific ways to
[41:32] communicate very specific truths and
[41:33] when you fiddle with that you fiddle
[41:35] with truth and you fiddle with God and
[41:37] you you pipe it out to people and you
[41:39] call it the passion translation that's
[41:41] the title it's called TPT it's not
[41:43] really a translation I don't know what
[41:44] to call it it's an it's an adulteration
[41:47] of the text of Scripture so who would
[41:53] allow this past their controls if you're
[41:57] in a church where the pieman take your
[41:59] guys questions in just a minute but if
[42:00] you're in a church and you have this
[42:03] being read by your pastors or promoted
[42:06] in your in your local bookstores and
[42:08] things like that there's only two
[42:09] options I see one the guy reading it or
[42:12] promoting it is honestly ignorant and my
[42:14] thought is why are you even teaching if
[42:16] you know so little about theology that
[42:18] you can't see the problem or two they're
[42:22] fully aware and they like it and they
[42:25] want to use this to promote and pump up
[42:26] their own weird additions and changes
[42:29] that they're giving to God's Word so the
[42:31] pastor translation it's it's a big
[42:33] problem it's a big problem so what I'm
[42:36] gonna do right now is AJ you could send
[42:38] on all the questions over I'm happy to
[42:39] take those now I'll take your guys
[42:41] questions hopefully I can answer any
[42:42] anything hanging in the air that maybe
[42:44] I'm not thinking to mention I'd like to
[42:46] be able to mention that stuff now and
[42:48] while you're putting your questions in
[42:50] while AJ is getting grabbing those and
[42:51] send them to me I will put a link to it
[42:56] to in the video description as soon as
[42:57] the stream is over I didn't have time to
[42:59] do it before but there is a Old
[43:01] Testament scholar who did a review of
[43:03] the passionate translation that I will
[43:05] put in the video description his name is
[43:06] andrew seed he's the head of the Old
[43:08] Testament in Hebrew at Moore Theological
[43:10] College Sydney and he's a member of the
[43:12] NIV committee
[43:13] on Bible translations so this this is
[43:16] his field and he knows his stuff he
[43:18] wrote an article called burning
[43:19] scripture with passion a review of the
[43:21] Psalms passion translation it
[43:23] specifically deals with Psalms and it's
[43:26] it's I think it's worth looking at if
[43:28] you want more information then there you
[43:30] go so going to your questions going to
[43:34] your questions
[43:38] Zechariah says hey Mike keep doing what
[43:43] you do and please consider making a
[43:45] video exposing or refuting the so called
[43:46] serpent seed theology which false
[43:49] prophets like Jonathon Kleck keep
[43:51] propping up god bless you you know I
[43:53] don't know who Jonathon Kleck is and I
[43:55] have not heard of the serpent seed
[43:56] theology I'll say this I look in the
[44:00] comments for this video later if there's
[44:02] a lot of other people that are a bit
[44:02] affected by this or have heard of this
[44:04] then post a comment just say serpent
[44:07] seed theology in the comment section if
[44:09] I you know in the permanent video and if
[44:10] I see a lot of those then I'll consider
[44:13] looking into it because I've tried to
[44:14] just budget my time on how much time I
[44:15] have to look into things wonpil grain
[44:18] good to get to hear from you again whan
[44:19] it says hey Mike can the passion
[44:22] translation pull people from the true
[44:24] gospel can the translation stop people
[44:26] from being true Christians that's a
[44:29] tough one it's hard to estimate exactly
[44:32] the impact this translation has if you
[44:34] read it as your soul Bible I certainly
[44:36] don't want to do that I don't want to
[44:38] play that game I wonder what it would do
[44:42] if you were to just spend all your time
[44:44] reading it is it does it have truly
[44:46] false theology about how salvation works
[44:49] I noticed in Romans its Romans 2
[44:52] translation which is part of the the I
[44:54] mean Romans is like the strongest gospel
[44:56] presentation of the Bible is and
[44:58] throughout the book of Romans I think
[44:59] and Romans 2 is translated so he added
[45:05] so much and changed so much in his
[45:06] translation that it literally changed
[45:08] the meaning of the passage it doesn't
[45:09] even mean what it used to mean kind of
[45:11] thing but is it does it does it say like
[45:14] you need Jesus you need to repent and
[45:15] receive Christ like it does say those
[45:17] things I think so I'll say I tentatively
[45:20] don't really know for sure if it
[45:23] compromises the gospel in the passages
[45:25] where I looked at to see
[45:27] it had not compromise the gospel but
[45:29] because he twists so many things I would
[45:31] feel nervous giving it any sort of stamp
[45:34] of approval oh it's it's okay when it
[45:36] comes to the gospel because I'm not sure
[45:38] that it is
[45:39] I haven't read enough to really know
[45:42] from Tim G Micah just in case I need to
[45:45] explain to someone the difference aside
[45:47] from the obvious na are add-ons how
[45:49] exactly does this translation differ
[45:51] from thought for thought translations
[45:52] like the NLT the the NLT okay one of the
[45:56] things that passion translation does is
[45:58] what's called double and triple
[45:59] translation this is where I take a word
[46:01] and I let's say I take a word and the
[46:07] word could mean throwing launching
[46:12] exposing or running it I don't say say a
[46:16] word has all those meanings and I
[46:19] translate you know this one verse I
[46:21] translate it and make it much longer and
[46:23] I give it all of those meanings so now I
[46:25] have like extra phrases to give it extra
[46:27] meanings oh and then he was throwing and
[46:29] he was launching and he also was
[46:31] exposing them to the truths of God so
[46:33] that that's one thing the passion
[46:34] translation does like the amplified
[46:35] bible it double and triple translates
[46:37] things so that's one difference but it
[46:42] also adds okay the New Living
[46:43] Translation it never does this it never
[46:45] adds new concepts to a verse it never
[46:47] just adds totally unheard of ideas that
[46:51] were not in the mind of the author the
[46:52] reader or in the text itself it doesn't
[46:55] just add those things in as far as I
[46:56] know it's a it's very faithful as a
[47:00] somewhere between paraphrase and
[47:02] translate that's the New Living it's
[47:03] it's I like the new limit I think it's
[47:05] very faithful to the text whereas the
[47:07] passion is not it's faithful to the to
[47:09] what Brian thinks is the leading of the
[47:11] Holy Spirit and don't get me wrong he
[47:13] really believes that he's being led of
[47:15] the Holy Spirit I believe he's deceived
[47:17] and because of that he will be deceiving
[47:20] others with his work so we need to
[47:22] obviously get away from it from Layton
[47:26] hello Mike
[47:27] people around me are using the passion
[47:28] to teach believers mostly at home groups
[47:30] I'm wondering what to do oh dude Chom
[47:33] Chom my videos or or show them the
[47:35] article I'll link later
[47:37] most Christians I think upon finding out
[47:41] that the track the passion is a
[47:43] purposely wrong translation are gonna
[47:46] are going to want to get away from it
[47:48] they're gonna want to distance
[47:48] themselves from it and deal with that so
[47:50] I say expose them to these to these
[47:53] things share this stuff share the
[47:54] content go and find one of the verses
[47:57] that I've mentioned in this video or the
[47:58] previous video I did I'll put a link in
[48:00] the video description for that but look
[48:01] at fine one or two of those verses where
[48:03] in a translation they do trust whether
[48:05] it's the NIV or whatever where in that
[48:07] translation verses the passion it's
[48:09] obviously different even to an English
[48:11] speaker and if you give one of those
[48:12] verses and hold that up and say look at
[48:14] this look at how much he's changed this
[48:16] verse then that might open their eyes to
[48:18] see it it's not faithful from Ryan White
[48:22] says Mike can you do a video on the
[48:25] three uses of the law also may I have
[48:27] your permission to use I believe and we
[48:29] will praise in our student ministry
[48:30] thank you brother yeah those are two
[48:32] songs I wrote I believe and we will
[48:33] praise or worship songs I wrote and I
[48:34] give everybody in the world permission
[48:36] to use all of my songs for the glory of
[48:39] God if you're using it to make a bunch
[48:41] of money I not even sure if I actually
[48:44] care about that either
[48:46] but absolutely do give permission I do
[48:49] get permission for you to use them just
[48:51] to serve the Lord and things like that
[48:53] the three uses of the law are you
[48:54] talking about moral civil and ceremonial
[48:57] that would be worth a video but I will
[49:00] say this I've dealt with a lot of that
[49:02] it those issues in my how to understand
[49:05] the Old Testament law to video series I
[49:07] have a playlist on my youtube channel
[49:09] that deals with that as well
[49:12] Pastor Mike have you responded to dr.
[49:14] white thank you for your service god
[49:15] bless Jordan that was Georgia C by the
[49:17] way hi George I have not responded to
[49:19] doctor why I have been so busy and will
[49:22] continue to be this busy until after the
[49:25] beginning of next month so I'm about to
[49:28] do a debate on the resurrection of Jesus
[49:29] Christ and to me this is kind of
[49:31] important and I'm spending a great deal
[49:33] of time preparing for this it'll be on a
[49:35] secular or an atheist YouTube channel
[49:38] that I'll be doing this debate and I'm
[49:40] not gonna point you to their channel
[49:41] just yet their channel is full of a
[49:42] bunch of terrible stuff and so I'm not
[49:44] really looking to draw people towards
[49:45] them
[49:46] but but I'm looking forward to the
[49:48] chance to defend the resurrection of
[49:49] Jesus so I'm doing tons of research I
[49:51] don't have the time yet but what I'm
[49:53] going to do I think is patiently listen
[49:57] to look at and consider the things that
[49:58] dr. white said and also I'll read
[50:02] bondage of the will by Martin Luther
[50:03] which he asked me to do and then I'll
[50:05] get back to that so if anybody doesn't
[50:07] know this is because I did a video on
[50:09] Calvinism and then dr. James white
[50:10] responded to that video in a spirit of
[50:12] brotherhood which I very much appreciate
[50:14] and so I I'm looking into that when I
[50:18] have time it's gonna be a ways out
[50:21] though so I appreciate your guys
[50:22] patience I realize in the online world
[50:23] we all wanted to happen really fast but
[50:25] stuff I often do things that take quite
[50:28] a while because I want to do them well
[50:30] so from Chora Harris what about the CEV
[50:36] common English Bible oh I don't know
[50:38] about that translation I haven't looked
[50:39] into it
[50:39] CEB so I'm afraid I couldn't give you
[50:42] any information on that from Ryan white
[50:45] can you do a video oh I I guess already
[50:47] read that one yes okay so from Nick
[50:51] kinsman I have a question Mike thank you
[50:53] for your amazing ministry well thank you
[50:54] Nick that's a that's a blessing to hear
[50:56] and uh awesome good stuff to hear it has
[50:59] blessed my life can you please do more
[51:02] videos on witnessing to Jehovah's
[51:03] Witnesses a little off-topic but thank
[51:05] you very much I don't know how many more
[51:08] videos I'll do on that I think as things
[51:10] arise I might consider it but I'll say
[51:12] this go on to my youtube channel and in
[51:15] case you haven't seen it I have several
[51:16] videos on this topic and it's and
[51:18] there's a playlist if you look under
[51:20] playlists you have to go to my youtube
[51:21] channel click on playlists there's one
[51:23] called help for Jehovah's Witnesses and
[51:25] that is all those videos together where
[51:27] I've dealt with that or you can go to
[51:28] the website Bible think org and just
[51:30] type the term like Jehovah or Jehovah's
[51:33] Witnesses and it should pop up a bunch
[51:35] of stuff as well from Katherine bars hey
[51:39] Mike my church uses the passion
[51:40] translation and I want to leave how
[51:42] should I leave I'm very nervous too how
[51:44] should I do this
[51:46] Katherine I'm gonna encourage you with a
[51:48] couple things first off I I don't want
[51:53] to affirm that you should leave your
[51:54] church if my church was using the
[51:57] passion I wouldn't immediately leave now
[51:59] maybe you should and there's
[52:00] I know a ton more information lots more
[52:03] going on so but let me just say this I
[52:05] would be very very slow to leave a
[52:07] fellowship of people very slow in prayer
[52:09] very much getting counsel very much
[52:11] praying and praying and praying and
[52:12] looking for wisdom from God if you if
[52:14] you do have to leave a church I
[52:16] recommend you do it if the church is not
[52:18] into terrible heresies I recommend you
[52:20] do it quietly and lovingly and
[52:23] graciously and if they're in terrible
[52:24] heresies I recommend you do it loudly
[52:27] and taking as many people with you as
[52:29] you can not angrily but I mean loud like
[52:31] you're gonna get that information out
[52:33] just you're trying to save those people
[52:34] from the things that are being taught I
[52:36] obviously don't know the situation in
[52:38] your fellowship and I pray that God
[52:40] gives you wisdom Katharine let's just
[52:42] pray for Katharine right now father God
[52:44] we just lift up Katharine pray that
[52:45] you'd give her great wisdom patience
[52:47] insight and discernment in how to handle
[52:50] the situation in Jesus name Amen
[52:51] all right from Judah Matthews Mike do
[52:55] you think it's factually incorrect to
[52:57] call the passion translation of Bible I
[53:03] think it's definitely factually
[53:04] incorrect to call it a translation
[53:06] that's I I call it that because that's
[53:10] literally its official title of passion
[53:12] translation and it claims on the website
[53:15] oh it's a it's a legit translation it's
[53:16] fit for a careful study that's what they
[53:18] say not true is it a Bible
[53:24] what do you call I don't even what do
[53:26] you call something when it's a purposely
[53:28] twisted I mean is the New World
[53:29] Translation is that a Bible sort of it's
[53:33] sort of the Bible I guess it's sort of
[53:36] the Bible I don't know what else to say
[53:39] not something I want to read from dymas
[53:42] II hi Mike I was in a friendly debate
[53:45] with a Catholic over the idea that Rome
[53:47] has Authority and mentioned the meeting
[53:49] in Rome in the second century as their
[53:52] proof can you elaborate on that there's
[53:54] multiple councils in church history a
[53:57] meeting in Rome in the second century
[53:59] doesn't immediately ring a bell to me at
[54:00] all
[54:01] [Music]
[54:02] the council of nicaea jumps to mind that
[54:04] was in the fourth century I do have a
[54:07] video a I'm trying to give you guys good
[54:11] answers and the truth is I've dealt with
[54:13] a lot of stuff on my channel
[54:14] that is meant to just help you that just
[54:15] just to bless you and answer tough
[54:17] questions but I have a playlist on
[54:18] Catholicism so if you go to that
[54:20] playlist section on my site or on my
[54:22] youtube channel or if you go to Bible
[54:23] finger dot work there's a there's a
[54:25] there's a button there it says
[54:27] Catholicism and I deal with specifically
[54:30] the Roman Church authority claims
[54:32] because that to me is absolutely
[54:34] important so I deal with that I'll
[54:37] direct you towards that I'm what counsel
[54:39] you're referring to I don't know I don't
[54:41] know sorry off the top of my head it's
[54:43] been a while since I've looked into that
[54:44] stuff and Israel Silva has a question
[54:47] it says the new Apostolic movement has
[54:50] been present for around 12 years now in
[54:52] South America since there is no such
[54:55] translation in Spanish how can we
[54:57] prepare for this things there's no oh
[54:59] there's no passion translation in
[55:00] Spanish well there probably will be um
[55:02] how can you prepare for this stuff well
[55:05] Israel I don't know what influence you
[55:07] can have about the people around you but
[55:09] I'll caution us with a couple things one
[55:11] thing is this is while I'm dealing with
[55:14] here what you might consider to be like
[55:16] a discernment ministry type issue this
[55:17] passion translation I'm concerned with
[55:22] making my whole ministry about pointing
[55:25] out error in other ministries and so I
[55:26] don't do that right every for every
[55:29] video I put out when I'm dealing with
[55:30] something wrong I'm putting out at least
[55:33] one or more videos where I'm just doing
[55:35] Bible teaching and good theology stuff
[55:38] right so I encourage you in the same
[55:40] thing Israel just to consider that
[55:42] don't let your focus be only in exposing
[55:44] error because it will it will possibly
[55:47] harm you it tends to it tends to turn us
[55:50] in a strange direction let it also be
[55:52] just about championing truth and you can
[55:55] you can impact the world just grab the
[55:56] people around you who you can affect
[55:57] impact and affect them if the passion
[55:59] translation hasn't touched the people
[56:00] around you don't even worry about it
[56:01] don't worry about it if you see it
[56:04] coming you've already got a resource and
[56:05] you can already be the expert on it for
[56:07] those around you because of the things
[56:08] you know you could take my content and
[56:10] reproduce it in a Spanish video and give
[56:13] it to them if you want or make subtitles
[56:15] or something do something to just you
[56:17] know make a difference there but um but
[56:20] yeah this this new apostolic movement
[56:23] I don't what's up with this guy's like
[56:30] like
[56:31] we've got to test all things with the
[56:32] scripture and this movement is there's
[56:36] something wrong there's lots of things
[56:37] that are wrong with this and it's sad
[56:39] because there's many of our brothers and
[56:41] sisters involved in it but there's
[56:42] problems with it finally I got a note
[56:45] from pmc and Pam says we love you Mike
[56:48] and thank you very much love you too and
[56:50] I hope that this stuff has been a great
[56:52] blessing to you guys this has been the
[56:53] the Tuesday livestream I plan on doing
[56:56] next Tuesday I have an idea of what I
[56:58] want to do it about but I'm not a
[56:59] hundred percent sure so I don't want to
[57:01] set out any false expectations out there
[57:03] and yeah yeah that's about it so look I
[57:07] can keep it under an hour today 57
[57:09] minutes we're going with going strong
[57:11] thanks again guys for being here
[57:14] I guess that's I guess that's all I have
[57:16] to say so I guess I have to count to
[57:17] three or something before I say if I
[57:19] I'll say bye and count and hopefully it
[57:20] won't cut me off mid since all right so
[57:22] lord bless you guys see you next Tuesday
[57:24] every Tuesday 5:00 p.m. Pacific Standard
[57:26] Time where I live where we do with
[57:29] theology and apologetics and hope to
[57:31] help to graciously and even lovingly
[57:33] confront hard issues as well as stand up
[57:36] and push forward the truth of God's Word
[57:38] because Jesus is true Christianity is
[57:41] real and that means that all this stuff
[57:44] really really matters so Lord bless you 📄 **Full text:** ![[Full Document Contents/Articles/Exposing the Agenda and Origins of The Passion Translation.md|Exposing the Agenda and Origins of "The
