## ๐ Main Content
A WordPress developer documents their troubleshooting process for an AI demo plugin that stopped working. The core issue stems from WordPress AI functionality transitioning from the Gutenberg plugin to WordPress core, with REST API endpoints and JavaScript client features planned for WordPress 7.0 release rather than being backported to 6.9.
The developer discovers that the WP AI client package (pre-0.4) requires provider plugins to be installed, and that maintaining backward compatibility with WordPress 6.9 may not be feasible given the rapid evolution of WordPress AI features. The session highlights the challenges of plugin development during major WordPress feature transitions.

## ๐ฃ๏ธ Paraphrase
- WordPress AI functionality is transitioning from the Gutenberg plugin to WordPress core, creating compatibility challenges for developers working with AI features during this transition period
- The WP AI client package has specific requirements for provider plugins in versions before 0.4, which must be documented and communicated to users
- Maintaining backward compatibility between WordPress 6.9 and 7.0 for AI features appears impractical due to architectural changes, requiring developers to choose target versions strategically
## ๐ฐ Newsletter
WordPress AI development is heating up! This week's debugging session highlights the challenges developers face as WordPress AI features transition from the Gutenberg plugin to WordPress core in version 7.0.
Key takeaway: If you're working with the WP AI client package (pre-0.4), you'll need provider plugins installed. The rapid pace of WordPress AI development means backward compatibility between 6.9 and 7.0 may be limited.
For developers preparing demos or production features, consider targeting WordPress 7.0 directly rather than trying to maintain 6.9 compatibility. The AI features are evolving quickly, and focusing on the future version will save development time.

[00:00] So today I'm trying to figure out if<br>[00:01] it's the plug-in or WordPress 7.0 that's<br>[00:04] the problem and I'm trying to fix my<br>[00:06] plugin so that it works because<br>[00:10] the rest API endpoints and the<br>[00:15] JavaScript client is not being merged to<br>[00:17] WordPress 7.0.<br>[00:19] It's probably only going to come through<br>[00:20] as a as a a goodber package sometime.<br>[00:23] But wait, I know what the problem is<br>[00:24] here. problem here is<br>[00:27] I'm using an older version of using the<br>[00:30] newer version of the WP client. I'm so<br>[00:33] confused right now.<br>[00:38] I don't know why I wasn't working on a<br>[00:40] branch for this.<br>[00:43] Stupid.<br>[00:45] Okay.<br>[00:57] Okay, I've done something wrong here.<br>[00:59] I've just realized last week I was<br>[01:00] fiddling around with<br>[01:03] with my WordPress install. So, it's<br>[01:05] possible I've broken something. This is<br>[01:08] why live stream is boring when I'm<br>[01:09] actually having to think because I don't<br>[01:10] talk.<br>[01:12] Okay,<br>[01:13] I'm going to nuke my WordPress install<br>[01:15] now cuz I need to make sure that<br>[01:17] everything is beautiful. Fortunately, it<br>[01:20] was a tiny drop. Um, so it's not the end<br>[01:24] of the world. And I have I do have this.<br>[01:27] So, I'm going to hold it up screen. I do<br>[01:28] have this very cool um deskpad that I<br>[01:32] was given as a breakfast.<br>[01:37] But as as you as you become an older<br>[01:39] developer and you start gathering<br>[01:41] hardware, you get to a point where it's<br>[01:42] like, what do you want for your<br>[01:43] birthday? A desk pad and then people<br>[01:46] give you things like that for your<br>[01:47] birthday. Um but I'm probably going to<br>[01:49] end up releasing the pro version for<br>[01:51] free anyway. Um it does work on Linux,<br>[01:55] Windows, and Mac OS. It does not seem to<br>[01:58] be loading the AI client script.<br>[02:03] Why?<br>[02:11] That's weird.<br>[02:39] I'm an idiot. Okay, I'm an idiot. I<br>[02:41] broke it. It's my fault. I do need<br>[02:43] abilities API because I'm using Why do I<br>[02:46] need it?<br>[02:50] because I'm using the JavaScript client<br>[02:52] which is still in the Gutenberg plugin<br>[02:54] which hasn't been merged yet. So I do<br>[02:55] need it. But that's the thing regardless<br>[02:59] of anything that my code does. So<br>[03:03] if I just do<br>[03:07] if I take out all of my PHP code, the AI<br>[03:10] credentials page should still work<br>[03:11] because it's built into the AI client.<br>[03:13] It's not my code that that that creates<br>[03:15] that.<br>[03:18] Looks like something has broken in the<br>[03:20] package or something.<br>[03:23] Folks,<br>[03:25] if you're using the WPI client package<br>[03:28] before the 0.4 update, you need to have<br>[03:34] the<br>[03:36] provider plugins installed.<br>[03:38] Interesting.<br>[03:41] This stuff moves so fast.<br>[03:44] See, what I'm trying to do is I'm trying<br>[03:45] to update my plugin, my demo plugin, so<br>[03:47] it'll work on 6.9 and 7.0. Um, and now<br>[03:51] at least I know that it needs the<br>[03:52] providers installed. So,<br>[03:56] what I might need to do is update the um<br>[03:59] the readme<br>[04:01] so that it includes that information.<br>[04:04] It looks like this stuff is not going to<br>[04:06] work with 6.9. That's what it looks like<br>[04:08] to me.<br>[04:13] I feel like the problem is that<br>[04:17] the changes they're making for 7.0 are<br>[04:19] not so backward compatible with 6.9,<br>[04:22] which kind of makes sense because<br>[04:24] they're only merging into 7.0.<br>[04:27] The reason I'm trying to update these<br>[04:29] plugins is because I want to use them in<br>[04:30] demos.<br>[04:32] I have one, two, three speaking<br>[04:35] engagements coming up. Um, and I want to<br>[04:37] demo all of this. And so I guess the<br>[04:40] answer today is you have to just demo in<br>[04:43] now. I'm not going to waste my time<br>[04:44] trying to make this thing backwards<br>[04:45] compatible with 6.9. I just I feel like<br>[04:47] it's not going to happen. So I'm going<br>[04:49] to call it a day there folks. Thank you<br>[04:50] for joining me in this journey of<br>[04:53] getting nowhere, but and I'm sure you've<br>[04:55] all experienced this when you did. You<br>[04:57] might spend hours understanding the<br>[05:00] problem or you can fix it. So at least<br>[05:02] now I understand the problem. I won't be<br>[05:04] streaming or recording the following<br>[05:06] week because I will literally be in a<br>[05:07] different country.

- So today I'm trying to figure out if it's the plugin or WordPress in point. Oh, that's the problem. And I'm trying to fix my plug-in. So it works because the rest API in points and the JavaScript client is not being merged to WordPress in point. It's probably only going to come through as a good book package sometime. But wait, I know what the problem is here. What I'm here is, I'm using an older version of using the newer version of the Tokyo Aircraft.
