## ๐ Summary
- A content creator falsely claims Euphrates River drying is a biblical prophecy, using misleading photos and incorrect data
- The speaker debunks these claims, showing the photo is from a different Syrian reservoir from 2021, not the Euphrates
- Climate change is actually causing water reduction in the region, threatening millions of lives
- The speaker argues that treating humanitarian crises as prophetic signs prevents real action on climate change
- Biblical texts referenced are apocalyptic imagery for 1st century audiences, not future prophecy
## ๐ Main Content
The video systematically debunks viral social media claims about the Euphrates River drying up as biblical prophecy. The speaker demonstrates how a content creator named Colin used a misleading 5-year-old photograph of the Alduacet reservoir in Syria (90 miles from the Euphrates) to support claims about the river drying by 2037.
### Key Debunking Points
**Photographic Deception**: The viral image shows drought at the Alduacet Dam/reservoir in Syria's Idlib province from November 2021, not the Euphrates River. Satellite imagery shows this reservoir has since refilled with water.
**Timeline Errors**: The claimed 2037 date is incorrect; authorities actually estimate 2040 as the earliest potential drying date according to Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources and the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
**Biblical Misinterpretation**: The speaker argues that Revelation's references to the Euphrates and bound angels use "epi" (upon/at) not "under" the river, and these texts were late 1st century apocalyptic imagery meant for contemporary audiences, not future prophecy.
**Climate Reality**: The actual crisis is anthropogenic climate change reducing water availability across the region, affecting millions of lives through ecosystem destruction and water scarcity.
## ๐๏ธ Notes

## ๐ฃ๏ธ Paraphrase
A biblical scholar systematically debunks viral claims that the Euphrates River drying represents biblical prophecy being fulfilled. They expose how content creators use misleading 5-year-old photos from different Syrian water sources, incorrect timeline data, and misinterpret ancient apocalyptic texts to generate engagement around humanitarian crises. The real issue is climate change threatening millions of lives in the region, but framing disasters as prophetic signs prevents actual solutions and exploits human suffering for social media profit.
## ๐ฐ Newsletter
**๐จ Fact-Check Alert: When Climate Disasters Get the Prophecy Treatment**
Ever seen those viral posts claiming the Euphrates River drying is biblical prophecy? A sharp-eyed scholar just dismantled these claims piece by piece. Turns out that dramatic "dried river" photo is actually from a Syrian reservoir 90 miles awayโand it's since refilled! The real story? Climate change is genuinely threatening millions in the region, but treating disasters as divine signs might actually prevent us from taking action.
Key takeaway for content creators: Always verify your sources and consider whether sensational framing helps or hurts the communities you're discussing. The line between engagement and exploitation is often thinner than we think.

Not applicable - the video is critiquing rather than defending against accusations, and does not employ DARVO tactics. Instead, it uses legitimate fact-checking and source verification methods.
## ๐ฏ Conclusion
This video demonstrates the critical importance of fact-checking viral content, especially when it intersects religion and climate science. While the speaker effectively debunks false claims using verifiable evidence, the real insight is about how prophetic framing of humanitarian crises can hinder practical solutions. The challenge moving forward is creating space for religious worldviews while preventing the exploitation of suffering for social media engagement and ensuring climate action isn't delayed by end-times expectations.

[00:00] Stay with me. This is important.
[00:01] >> All right, let's see it.
[00:03] >> So, a lot of us have heard that the
[00:04] Euphrates River is drying up, but have
[00:06] you heard this? Euphrates River is
[00:08] drying faster than ever and will dry up
[00:10] completely by 2037. This isn't just
[00:13] this. This is multiple sources. So, a
[00:15] couple of things here and I'm going to
[00:16] start with that photograph. That
[00:19] photograph has absolutely nothing
[00:20] whatsoever to do with the Euphrates
[00:22] River. This is where that photograph
[00:24] comes from. And you can see in the
[00:26] caption a picture shows drought in the
[00:28] Dueset Dam or Dueset reservoir outside
[00:32] the town of Alderya in Syria's northern
[00:34] Idlib province on November 9th, 2021. So
[00:38] this photograph is almost 5 years old
[00:41] and it is showing the Alduet reservoir.
[00:44] This is a satellite photo of the
[00:46] Alduacet reservoir which as you can see
[00:48] more recently has filled back up with
[00:51] water. It is the sideways chevron
[00:54] looking green shape in the middle of
[00:55] this photograph. And I don't know if you
[00:57] can tell, but the city of Aleria is in
[01:00] the upper left. And then the white line
[01:02] that's swooping down in the upper right,
[01:04] that is the border with Turkey. And this
[01:06] reservoir is an important source of
[01:08] water for people and animals that live
[01:11] all around this area. But if we zoom
[01:14] out, that reservoir is approximately in
[01:17] the center of that little red circle in
[01:20] the lower left. The Euphrates River is
[01:23] approximately in that circle on the
[01:26] right, the much larger circle. The
[01:29] closest it gets to the Alduacet
[01:32] reservoir is about 90 miles. So, while
[01:35] the Euphrates doesn't have anything
[01:37] whatsoever to do with that photograph,
[01:39] the photograph is showing a problem that
[01:41] is affecting the Alduacet reservoir as
[01:44] well as the Euphrates River, and that's
[01:47] climate change. Climate change is
[01:50] reducing the amount of water that is
[01:51] available in this region which relies
[01:55] heavily on water to keep animals and
[01:58] plants and people alive. And the other
[02:02] thing I want to talk about is this 2037
[02:05] number. I don't know where this content
[02:07] creator got the 2037 number. The number
[02:09] is actually 2040. that you can see here
[02:12] in this 2022 Leond article, authorities
[02:15] estimate that the Euphrates could dry up
[02:17] as early as 2040. And those authorities
[02:21] are the Iraqi Ministry of Water
[02:24] Resources and the Center for Strategic
[02:26] and International Studies. Uh you can
[02:29] see their article here. Climate change
[02:32] is increasing the annual average
[02:36] temperature of the region. It is
[02:38] reducing the amount of water that is
[02:40] available. It is hurting millions and
[02:42] millions of lives in this region. It is
[02:46] anthropogenic. It is caused by human
[02:49] activity. We are the ones doing this to
[02:52] this ecosystem. We are the ones who are
[02:56] hurting and damaging and ruining
[02:58] millions and millions of lives in this
[03:00] region. And I don't get the sense
[03:04] that this content creator could be
[03:06] bothered to give two shits about what is
[03:10] happening to these people because he's
[03:12] got something much more exciting in mind
[03:16] when he shows photographs of droughts
[03:20] that are killing animals and people in
[03:23] this region.
[03:24] >> And guys, this is biblical. underneath
[03:25] the Euphrates River right now are four
[03:27] angels. And at any moment, they can be
[03:30] released and they will unal alive a
[03:32] third of the planet.
[03:33] >> This is not biblical. This is complete
[03:35] and utter horseshit. And maybe you don't
[03:37] see a distinction between the two, but
[03:41] the notion that the Euphrates River is
[03:43] going to dry up is found in a part of
[03:46] the book of Revelation where it talks
[03:48] about this being necessary so that the
[03:50] kings from the east can cross over and
[03:53] invade. And that has nothing to do with
[03:55] anything that's going on today. In a
[03:58] different part of the book of
[04:00] Revelation, it talks about four angels
[04:02] being bound at the Euphrates River or
[04:06] upon the Euphrates River. The
[04:09] preposition in Greek is epi, which does
[04:11] not mean under the Euphrates River. So
[04:15] what this content creator has shared is
[04:18] horseshit and it has nothing to do with
[04:22] the climate change that we are causing
[04:24] that is destroying this river and the
[04:28] water supplies for the people who live
[04:30] in this region. So there are no angels.
[04:34] They are not going to be released. They
[04:36] are not going to kill a third of
[04:38] humanity because that was all late 1st
[04:41] century CE apocalyptic imagery intended
[04:44] to engender an emotional response in the
[04:48] hearers in the late 1st century CE and
[04:51] galvanize them and exhort them to
[04:53] greater fidelity to their community and
[04:55] to keep themselves unspotted from the
[04:59] wicked Roman Empire. The book of
[05:01] Revelation has nothing at all to do with
[05:05] any period after the late 1st century
[05:08] CE. It is not a prophecy about the
[05:10] future. It is not a prophecy about the
[05:13] 21st century. It is not a prophecy about
[05:16] any point in our future.
[05:19] But when you pretend that it is, when
[05:23] you play these stupid games,
[05:27] when you emotionally masturbate to the
[05:30] thought of all of this coming to pass
[05:34] and ruining millions and millions of
[05:36] lives,
[05:38] you get in the way of us fixing this
[05:41] problem that is still going to be
[05:43] hurting millions and millions of lives
[05:45] long after you're gone. And none of
[05:48] these prophecies have come true because
[05:50] they're not actual prophecies.
[05:53] You really, really, really need to stop
[05:56] exploiting tragedies
[05:59] and human suffering
[06:01] for views on social media to make you
[06:04] money and to jin up this collective
[06:07] effervescence of excitement about the
[06:10] end of the world. This is prophecy being
[06:12] fulfilled right now. The Euphrates River
[06:14] is mentioned all over the Bible. It's a
[06:16] big deal. Revelation 16:12 says, "The
[06:18] great river Euphrates and its water was
[06:20] dried up to prepare the way for the
[06:22] kings of the east. It's all towards a
[06:23] greater end plan." This is not oriented
[06:26] toward a greater end. This is oriented
[06:28] toward greater human suffering and death
[06:30] that could destroy this ecosystem and
[06:34] numerous others with it. and you are
[06:37] here cheering it on from the sidelines
[06:40] because of this fantasy
[06:43] that this book is telling the future. I
[06:47] mean, you can't really argue with this.
[06:49] Here's a picture of the before and the
[06:50] after. Quite obvious.
[06:52] >> Uh, these photos are almost 20 years
[06:54] old, and the situation today is closer
[06:57] to the before picture than the after
[07:00] picture. But this is a cyclical problem
[07:02] because water levels rise and fall
[07:05] throughout the year. And the main
[07:07] problem is that progressively the water
[07:10] levels are getting lower and lower. And
[07:13] perhaps the most surprising part is the
[07:15] river itself is shaped like the omega
[07:16] symbol. Remember Jesus is the alpha and
[07:19] the omega. Omega means the end. So
[07:21] obviously we don't know the exact day
[07:22] that Jesus is going to return. We don't
[07:24] know that. But he certainly gives us
[07:27] signs.
[07:28] >> This is not a sign, Colin. This is a
[07:31] reservoir formed by a dam that is in a
[07:35] shape that is naturally occurring in
[07:37] rivers all around the world. It's not a
[07:41] sign. It's just your imagination. It is
[07:43] your profoundly
[07:46] profoundly misguided and naive and
[07:49] childish and selfish identity politics
[07:52] that compel you to engage in this public
[07:56] performance of confidence and conviction
[07:59] in the notion that somebody's going to
[08:01] come from the sky and magically fix
[08:03] everything. And there are absolutely no
[08:06] data that indicate that is ever going to
[08:09] happen. All of the data point firmly in
[08:11] the other direction. All of the lives
[08:14] that have been ruined and have been lost
[08:17] and continue to be ruined and to be lost
[08:21] and will continue to be ruined and be
[08:24] lost in the future. Don't point in the
[08:27] direction of this all being oriented
[08:29] toward a greater good.
[08:32] This is not going to get better unless
[08:35] and until we all come together and
[08:38] decide to make it get better, until we
[08:41] decide to fix it. And we can't do that
[08:44] if people with enormous platforms are
[08:48] just spreading this asinine idea that
[08:52] this is all oriented toward a greater
[08:55] good.
[08:57] As long as people like you are standing
[09:00] on the sidelines cheering on this
[09:02] suffering and this death, this will not
[09:06] get better.
[09:08] Grow the hell up, Colin. Get over this
[09:12] naive and this childish game that you
[09:15] are playing. Cuz right now you're
[09:17] playing a stupid game. But the prizes
[09:19] are for everybody.
[09:21] And the fit for this video is
[09:23] Spider-Man.
