- Why it matters: Explains ideological roots of contemporary Christian nationalism and "King Cyrus" political theology
- Key stakeholders: Religious scholars, political analysts, concerned Christians, extremism researchers
- Risks and tradeoffs: Understanding these connections helps identify harmful ideologies while risking oversimplification of complex movements
- Bottom line takeaway: Modern NAR politics stem from historical Christian identity and British Israelism, though many adherents don't recognize these antisemitic roots
## ๐ Main Content
The video traces how Lance Wallnau's "biblical King Cyrus" theology connecting Trump to biblical narratives has deep historical roots in Christian identity and British Israelism movements of the early-to-mid 20th century.
During the 1920s-1940s, leaders like Gerald Burton Winrod founded organizations such as "Defenders of the Christian Faith" that opposed President Roosevelt's New Deal policies. They viewed Roosevelt as enabling a "Jewish conspiracy" detailed in the fabricated "Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion" document. These groups believed they represented the "lost 10 tribes of Israel" and that biblical promises to Israel applied to modern Christians.
Key figures like Charles Fuller (founder of Fuller Theological Seminary where C. Peter Wagner later taught) and F.F. Bosworth (influential in healing revivals) were connected to this movement. The ideology opposed Roosevelt's labor protections and social welfare as part of an alleged Jewish plot for global domination through economic manipulation.
The speaker argues that today's NAR represents an evolution of these same ideologies, but inverted - where the historical movement sought to overthrow government they saw as corrupted by Jewish influence, today's movement seeks to capture government to implement Christian dominionist goals. Many current adherents are unaware of these antisemitic historical roots.

## ๐ฃ๏ธ Paraphrase
- Modern "King Cyrus" political theology connecting Trump to biblical narratives has historical roots in 1920s-40s Christian identity movements that opposed Roosevelt's New Deal as a Jewish conspiracy
- Influential religious institutions and revival leaders were networked with antisemitic Christian identity ideology, though many current adherents are unaware of these connections
- Today's Christian nationalism represents an evolution rather than innovation, with similar theological frameworks applied to opposite political goals than the historical movement
## ๐ฐ Newsletter
Understanding the theological roots of contemporary Christian nationalism helps explain why certain biblical narratives resonate so powerfully in current political movements. The historical connections traced in this analysis reveal how antisemitic ideologies from the early-mid 20th century evolved into modern forms that many adherents don't recognize as problematic.
For those working in interfaith dialogue or religious freedom advocacy, recognizing these historical patterns provides crucial context for engaging constructively with communities influenced by these theologies while maintaining appropriate boundaries around harmful ideologies.

## ๐ฏ Conclusion
This analysis reveals how contemporary Christian nationalist movements, particularly the "King Cyrus" theology around Trump, have deep historical roots in early-to-mid 20th century Christian identity and British Israelism movements. While many current adherents are unaware of these antisemitic origins, the institutional and theological connections provide crucial context for understanding why certain biblical political narratives resonate so powerfully today.
For practitioners working in religious education, interfaith dialogue, or extremism prevention, this historical awareness is essential for engaging constructively with affected communities while maintaining appropriate boundaries around harmful ideologies. The pattern of mainstream religious opposition suggests that sustained, informed resistance to religious extremism has historical precedent and effectiveness.

[00:00] I've been talking Christian identity
[00:01] because that's been my focus for a long
[00:03] time. Trying to understand the roots of
[00:05] what developed into the cult I grew up
[00:08] with and beyond how did it turn into
[00:12] IHOPKC International House of Prayer in
[00:14] Kansas City?
[00:15] How is Bethel connected? How are all of
[00:17] these different major major components
[00:21] of the New Apostolic Reformation
[00:22] connected?
[00:24] And most of it goes back to Christian
[00:26] identity and British Israelism.
[00:29] And Lance Wallnau's phrase a biblical
[00:32] King Cyrus, if you understand that
[00:35] theology and philosophy,
[00:38] all of it makes sense, but we can unpack
[00:41] it just a little bit more.
[00:42] So, today I wanted to go into that just
[00:45] a little bit because there I've
[00:47] mentioned bits and pieces of this
[00:48] history,
[00:50] >> [clears throat]
[00:50] >> but unless you really take a deep dive
[00:52] and understand the complexities of what
[00:55] it all means, it really does doesn't
[00:59] really do do justice to the subject. So,
[01:03] want to unpack that just a little bit.
[01:05] And I'm going to start actually with
[01:08] Roosevelt and the New Deal
[01:10] because this is something that I think
[01:12] is significant.
[01:14] As all of this was forming, I mentioned
[01:17] C. Peter Wagner. Wagner was a instructor
[01:19] at the Fuller Theological Seminary.
[01:22] The Fuller Theological Seminary was
[01:24] founded by Charles Fuller. Charles
[01:26] Fuller was in a group of people that was
[01:30] working with Gerald Burton Winrod who
[01:33] was a an outspoken Christian identity
[01:36] leader, a fundamentalist,
[01:38] and he and many others had joined
[01:41] together under an organization that was
[01:43] called the Defenders of the Christian
[01:45] Faith.
[01:47] And much like Lance Wallnau and many of
[01:50] the others today who were taking
[01:52] biblical names and associating them with
[01:56] political figures of today, they were
[01:59] doing the same thing in the you know, in
[02:01] the days of the 1920s, 19 through 1940s.
[02:05] That was building up to the time
[02:07] whenever the latter rain
[02:09] revival and the post healing
[02:11] revival were going to explode across the
[02:14] United States.
[02:16] And [clears throat] they attacked
[02:17] President Roosevelt very heavily during
[02:19] those years because
[02:21] what they saw what and they they used
[02:23] different Bible terms of Bible kings to
[02:27] apply to Roosevelt, but what they saw
[02:29] essentially was
[02:31] Roosevelt was enabling the massive
[02:34] influx of Jews and the Christian
[02:37] identity people believed that the Jews
[02:40] that were in the world today were false
[02:44] Jews. So, they would call them the
[02:45] so-called Jews.
[02:47] And [clears throat] they they viewed
[02:49] President Roosevelt's New Deal
[02:51] um policy. They would they would say
[02:54] things like this is the Jew Deal, not
[02:55] the New Deal. This is the Jew Deal.
[02:58] And they believed that his
[02:59] administration was just fully dominated
[03:02] by Jews
[03:03] and that it was part of a broader Jewish
[03:06] conspiracy. And the reason behind this
[03:09] is because of a publication that Winrod
[03:12] and others were very active in
[03:14] distributing called The Protocols of the
[03:17] Learned Elders of Zion.
[03:19] And this was a fabricated text that was
[03:22] detailing an alleged Jewish plot for
[03:25] global domination.
[03:27] In other words, this this would be the
[03:29] equivalent of today's New Apostolic
[03:30] Reformation, but from the Jews instead
[03:33] of the
[03:34] NAR people. The Protocols were Protocols
[03:37] means basically the minutes or the the
[03:40] proceedings of the Learned Elders of
[03:42] Zion.
[03:43] It was a conspiracy for a one-world
[03:45] government, a one-world religion,
[03:48] manipulating and controlling banks,
[03:50] newspapers, Masonic lodges, and
[03:54] basically if you were in the camp where
[03:57] you believed that this was real,
[03:59] you were trained to believe that
[04:01] President Roosevelt was enabling it and
[04:04] that eventually it was going to lead to
[04:06] World War and finally Armageddon. And
[04:09] so,
[04:10] Franklin Delano Roosevelt was seen as
[04:12] basically the
[04:15] opposite of what you see as Trump today.
[04:17] This was somebody who was bringing in
[04:19] destruction.
[04:20] And we needed to if you believed in this
[04:24] ideology, we as a people who believed in
[04:27] it, needed to overthrow the government
[04:29] and we needed to kick out these
[04:32] so-called false Jews because we are
[04:35] under the British Israel beliefs and
[04:37] framework, we are part of the lost 10
[04:40] tribes of Israel and all of the
[04:42] scriptures that describe the blessings
[04:45] to Israel in the Old Testament apply to
[04:48] us as a Christian modern Christian
[04:50] people. That's what they believed.
[04:52] And so, they
[04:55] started to be very hostile against the
[04:57] federal state and the the basically the
[05:00] world government because they saw the
[05:02] world government as having been
[05:04] influenced by these the so-called Jewish
[05:07] threat.
[05:08] So,
[05:09] compare it to today, it's it's pretty
[05:12] much the same thing, but it's in the
[05:13] opposite. So, they were believing that
[05:16] it was it needed to be overthrown. Well,
[05:19] if you
[05:20] follow all of the milestones of history
[05:22] to what we see today, today they're just
[05:26] doing what they were teaching was
[05:28] happening back then. We need to
[05:30] overthrow this. We need to kick out the
[05:32] false Jews. We need to take back control
[05:35] of the United States and we eventually
[05:38] need to fight this global threat.
[05:40] Now, [clears throat] many people today
[05:42] who are in the New Apostolic Reformation
[05:45] would argue strongly against this. They
[05:47] would say, "I'm not against the Jews. I
[05:48] love Israel. I support Israel."
[05:51] But you have to understand that in the
[05:53] historical context of this, the ideology
[05:57] behind what they're doing created the
[05:59] mass and they've long forgotten this
[06:02] ideology. So, many people preaching this
[06:05] have no idea that it came from Christian
[06:07] identity.
[06:08] And you can walk through some of that
[06:11] history in the podcast that Charles and
[06:13] I did on the revival history series.
[06:16] But
[06:17] >> [clears throat]
[06:17] >> the other thing that they were preaching
[06:20] against President Roosevelt's anti-labor
[06:23] laws and anti-social warfare.
[06:26] They the New Deal empowered unions and
[06:30] so, whenever they saw that it was
[06:33] changing the economy, they thought that
[06:36] this was part of the Jewish plot. If
[06:38] they can change the economy, they're
[06:39] going to decrease the economy. Things
[06:41] are going to get really really bad and
[06:44] we need to stop this really quickly
[06:46] because our our economy will just
[06:48] crumble because of the Jewish threat.
[06:51] And again, compare it to today, look at
[06:53] today's economy and look what's
[06:54] happening now that this movement has
[06:57] actually made it all the way into
[06:58] Washington. You're seeing the same
[07:00] thing, but in a different direction.
[07:03] So, [clears throat]
[07:04] as I said, Gerald Burton Winrod is doing
[07:07] this. You have Charles Fuller who is the
[07:09] founder of the seminary that C. Peter
[07:12] Wagner, the man who coined the term the
[07:14] New Apostolic Reformation. They're all
[07:16] in this together. And it's under the
[07:19] disguise of well, under the
[07:21] umbrella of the Christian
[07:23] fundamentalist.
[07:25] And there were different leagues that
[07:26] were set up as the fundamentalist
[07:28] leagues.
[07:30] The different leagues were involved in
[07:32] rallying in political scenes. They're
[07:35] trying to get people elected who would
[07:37] fight for them to try to take back the
[07:38] government. They wanted basically they
[07:40] wanted to conquer the so-called mountain
[07:42] of government. And people like F. F.
[07:45] Bosworth who was really influential in
[07:48] the post-World War healing revival, um
[07:51] who mentored William Branham in faith
[07:53] healing, who was in John Alexander
[07:55] Dowie's Zion cult, who also worked
[07:58] closely with John G. Lake, Charles Fox
[08:01] Parham.
[08:02] He was [clears throat]
[08:03] work he was writing articles for um
[08:06] the for Gerald Burton Winrod's
[08:08] newsletter or vice versa. I'd have to go
[08:11] back and look, but they they were
[08:12] working together because this was an
[08:14] ideology that was shared across many
[08:17] different fundamentalist and Pentecostal
[08:20] groups.
[08:21] So, this was [clears throat] nothing
[08:22] that was a small isolated um if you
[08:25] study Christian identity, it's it's kind
[08:27] of painted as this small isolated thing.
[08:30] But if you understand what it means and
[08:33] all of the different details involved
[08:36] with Christian identity, you see it
[08:37] widespread throughout the entire
[08:40] fundamentalist type religions. And you
[08:43] see a lot of opposition to it just much
[08:46] like today, you see the mainstream
[08:48] denominations are fighting back against
[08:50] this. No, don't do this. This does not
[08:53] look at all like Christianity. What are
[08:54] you people doing? Well, they were doing
[08:56] that back in the 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s much
[09:01] like they're doing today and they're
[09:02] getting pushed back.
[09:04] So, when people [clears throat] say,
[09:05] "Why is it so much worse today? Why we
[09:08] see all these um mainstream
[09:10] denominations condemning it and we've
[09:12] got all of these apologists who are
[09:14] exposing it, people like me who are
[09:16] publishing the history." You've got all
[09:19] of this opposition to this Christian
[09:21] extremist religion that has flourished
[09:24] into in the United States today. Why is
[09:26] it so much worse? And my my statement is
[09:29] it's really not. We um we're just
[09:32] starting to see some of the fruits that
[09:35] have been planted years ago take root.
