Detailed Summary for [UPDATE: Properties in Obsidian](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE) by [Merlin](https://merlin.foyer.work/)
[00:04](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE&t=4) Obsidian version 1.4 Insider build released with added properties.
- This version introduces a new feature called yaml or front matter for file metadata.
- In Source mode, you can access properties by clicking on the three dots at the top right and selecting 'Properties'.
- In the Properties view, you can drag properties up and down, change their types, and perform cut, copy, paste, and remove operations.
- With shift + click, you can select multiple properties and perform bulk operations.
- You can also copy all property information from one file to another by selecting and copying them.
- The editor tab provides an overview of the properties in the file.
[01:03](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE&t=63) File properties can be toggled on and off in the command palette
- When toggled on, all file properties are displayed
- The command palette also provides a list of all properties in the vault
- Clicking on a property adds it to the search to identify files with the property
[01:53](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE&t=113) There is a new feature to add file properties with a hotkey.
- There are default properties such as Alias, CSS classes, and tags.
- You cannot change the property type when you click on them and the icon.
- If there are no properties in a new file, you can add them.
[02:48](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE&t=168) You can create aliases for files in Obsidian
- Aliases allow you to have alternative names for files
- You can switch between aliases using the quick switcher control
[03:39](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE&t=219) The Obsidian app allows users to add properties like tags and CSS classes.
- Tags can be added as a property and can be autocompleted.
- Changing the name of the tags property changes its type and it cannot be put back into a task property.
[04:31](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE&t=271) There are two properties being discussed
- The first property is a list with autocomplete suggestions
- The second property is a text property with autocomplete suggestions
[05:21](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE&t=321) The input fields 319.02 to 321.72 allow only numbers to be typed.
- There are restrictions on the input fields that prevent the typing of letters.
- These restrictions only apply to numbers and not other properties.
- The input fields are tagged with aliases or CSS classes that can be customized to any name.
- The limitations are actually imposed by the property type and not the name.
- There are additional input fields for date and time selection.
- The date selection field includes a date picker and a link to the corresponding file.
- The link allows direct access to the daily note or journal file.
[06:11](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE&t=371) Creating links within properties allows for easier navigation.
- The example demonstrates the ability to link between files within properties.
- Links can be changed and updated within properties.
- Linking within properties does not provide reciprocal backlinks, but still appears in the backlinks panel.
- Other improvements and fixes were included in the update.
