## ๐ Main Content
Elementor made a strategic decision to become an early AI adopter immediately after ChatGPT's launch. According to Miriam Schwab, the company essentially paused other product development to focus on AI integration, recognizing they "couldn't wait another second" to be part of the AI revolution.
Their first AI implementation included basic content generation (images, HTML, CSS, blog posts) and a proactive page-building assistant that suggested next sections. While this early version received criticism and users wanted to "turn it off," Elementor used this feedback and usage data to improve their offerings.
The company has since launched two major AI products: Site Planner (a free external tool for creating website briefs and wireframes) and Angie (an agentic AI assistant for WordPress currently in beta). Both tools remain free despite AI operational costs, allowing for extensive user testing and feedback collection.

[00:00] Hi everyone and welcome to the WP
[00:02] Minute. I'm Eric Caravac.
[00:05] Today's episode features a segment from
[00:07] Matt Maderos's conversation with
[00:09] Elementor's Miriam Schwab. Be sure to
[00:12] catch the entire discussion over on our
[00:14] WP Minute Plus podcast. Visit the
[00:17] wpmin.com
[00:19] for all the details. um when it first
[00:22] came out there was just a lot of
[00:23] criticism like oh my god like because it
[00:25] was early like elementor was ahead of
[00:27] the you know AI building space and it's
[00:29] just like how do I turn this thing off
[00:31] but AI has gotten arguably much better
[00:35] and I'm sure the experience has gotten
[00:37] much better. Um, is there a core guiding
[00:41] principle at Elementor on integrating AI
[00:44] and how you approach it in an open way
[00:46] so it's not just we're not just getting
[00:48] AI taxed I guess is is my best phrase
[00:51] for it.
[00:53] So from the start basically
[00:56] basically I think it was something like
[00:58] chat GPT launched and within a very
[01:01] short amount of time Elementor's product
[01:03] development kind of stopped not exactly
[01:06] stopped but there was like a kind of
[01:08] hold on what does this mean for us and
[01:11] an AI team was like very quickly set up
[01:13] in element there was like an
[01:14] understanding that um whatever AI means
[01:17] for us and for the industry we have to
[01:19] be part of it now and we can't wait
[01:22] another second So that's why we launched
[01:25] the the first the first like approach or
[01:28] uh version of AI in Elementor WordPress
[01:32] which was kind of straightforward um
[01:35] which is like here create an image
[01:37] create some HTML create CSS write a blog
[01:39] post whatever that kind of stuff. Um
[01:42] there were some interesting pieces of
[01:44] functionality that were part of the AI
[01:46] then which was like this uh if you were
[01:49] like building a page then it would
[01:51] suggest to you the next section of the
[01:53] page and then like kind of lay it out
[01:55] for you. Didn't do a great job of that
[01:57] but it was like you can the thinking
[01:59] behind that was okay let's also be
[02:01] proactive for our users and uh try to
[02:05] like hold their hand while they're
[02:06] building because it's also new. our team
[02:10] and all of us were just like trying to
[02:12] figure out as we go along and try to
[02:13] find the best uh and most valuable
[02:15] application. So we started with that and
[02:18] basically because we started early even
[02:19] if the first uh application wasn't
[02:21] amazing and people were like turn it
[02:23] off. A lot of people want to turn off
[02:25] because of that suggestion thing because
[02:26] they're like stop it why are you
[02:28] building this next section of my page
[02:30] but um since then we've been learning a
[02:33] ton and you know that we can learn we
[02:36] have a lot of data around the usage so
[02:38] we can then improve the applications
[02:41] since then we've launched a few more AI
[02:44] products we have this one called site
[02:46] planner which is an external tool which
[02:48] is free to use uh planner.element.com
[02:50] element.com and people can go and chat
[02:53] their way to a website brief site map
[02:56] and uh what we call the wireframe of a
[02:59] site but the wireframe is like what the
[03:01] way I see it is like 80% of the way
[03:02] there to a website and then like the
[03:05] professionals can come in and tweak it
[03:06] and polish it and wrap it up in and
[03:09] bring their vision to the to the like
[03:11] the final leg of the project. So there's
[03:12] that and then you can launch directly uh
[03:15] into hosting or downloaded zip or
[03:17] whatever. Um, and then we also launched
[03:20] a product which is still in beta which
[03:22] is called Angie which is an agentic AI
[03:25] assistant for WordPress. So it sits
[03:27] there next to you in the dashboard and
[03:29] it can do all sorts of things in many
[03:31] ways with that the sky is the limit but
[03:33] also because the sky's is the limit it
[03:36] can still do weird things and so that's
[03:39] why it's still in beta. So on the one
[03:41] hand you can do things with it and
[03:42] you're like oh my gosh that's amazing
[03:43] and then on the other hand you'll try to
[03:45] do things with it and it's still like a
[03:47] bit wonky. Um, but we hope to like
[03:50] fine-tune that pretty soon and bring it
[03:52] out of beta. But people can test it.
[03:54] It's in the WordPress repo and it's free
[03:56] to use. There's no limitations because
[03:59] AI costs, right? Like not because of us,
[04:03] but because AI just costs. So at some
[04:05] point there's credits involved in this
[04:06] stuff, but at the moment like Angie and
[04:08] Site Planner, although there's obviously
[04:10] cost to us uh for use, we are not
[04:13] charging anyone. So feel free to test it
