## ๐ Summary
- WordPress 7 introduces AI groundwork with centralized connectors for Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI
- AI Experiments plugin provides practical content tools: title generation, alt text, excerpts, image creation, and review notes
- Features focus on workflow integration rather than revolutionary capabilities
- Key benefits include time savings on repetitive tasks and improved accessibility compliance
- Critical evaluation shows mixed utility - some features genuinely helpful, others feel gimmicky
## ๐ Main Content
WordPress 7 establishes foundational AI infrastructure through centralized API connectors that allow plugins to access AI services without individual API key management. The AI Experiments plugin demonstrates practical applications including automated title suggestions, alt text generation for accessibility compliance, content excerpts, AI image creation, and editorial review notes.
The implementation prioritizes workflow integration over flashy features. Alt text generation addresses a common accessibility gap where content creators often skip or rush this crucial step. Title generation provides creative starting points for writers facing blank page syndrome. Excerpt creation automates the summarization process many find tedious.
However, the system shows limitations in creative control and processing speed. Image generation lacks fine-tuned prompting capabilities, and processing times can interrupt workflow momentum. The review notes feature provides suggestions but lacks the actionable recommendations found in tools like Grammarly.
The centralized connector approach represents smart architectural thinking - consolidating API management reduces configuration overhead across multiple plugins while enabling consistent service switching.

## Full Transcript
[00:00] Right, WordPress just generated this
[00:02] blog title for me. And annoyingly, it's
[00:04] actually better than the one I was about
[00:05] to use, which is slightly concerning
[00:08] because it means WordPress has now
[00:10] firmly wandered into AI territory. Now,
[00:13] to be clear, WordPress 7 isn't suddenly
[00:15] turning into some magical, all- knowing
[00:17] website builder that does everything for
[00:19] you while you just sit there drinking
[00:21] coffee and pretending you planned it
[00:22] that way from the very start. No, what
[00:24] WordPress 7 is really adding is the AI
[00:27] groundwork. the things like the
[00:28] plumbing, the connectors, the underlying
[00:30] system that lets WordPress talk to
[00:32] different AI providers properly. And
[00:34] then sitting on top of that, you've got
[00:36] the AI experiments plug-in, which is
[00:38] where the more visible stuff starts
[00:40] showing up. Things like generating
[00:42] titles, creating excerpts, summarizing
[00:45] content, writing alt text, generating
[00:47] images, and even producing review notes
[00:49] inside the editor, which all sounds very
[00:52] clever. But as usual, the real question
[00:54] isn't whether it looks good in a demo.
[00:56] it's whether any of this is actually
[00:58] useful once you try to use it in a
[01:00] normal WordPress workflow. So, that's
[01:02] what we're going to do in this video.
[01:04] We're going to look at what WordPress 7
[01:06] is bringing to the table, what the AI
[01:08] experience plug-in can actually do right
[01:10] now and whether this is the start of
[01:11] something genuinely useful.
[01:14] Now, the most obvious one is title
[01:15] generation. And to be fair, this does
[01:17] make a lot of sense because if you've
[01:18] ever sat there staring at the title
[01:20] field trying to come up with something
[01:22] that's not only useful, but clickable
[01:23] and not completely ridiculous sounding,
[01:25] you'll know it can be weirdly annoying.
[01:27] So, here WordPress can suggest post
[01:30] titles using AI to help you create
[01:32] engaging and relevant headlines much
[01:34] easier. And yes, this is useful. And
[01:37] then there's the more practical stuff.
[01:38] Alt text generation is one of those
[01:40] features that is actually helpful in the
[01:42] real world because it improves
[01:44] accessibility and saves time on the jobs
[01:46] people either forget to do or leave
[01:48] until the end and then rush badly. Now,
[01:50] you've also got excerpt generation and
[01:52] content summarization, which again makes
[01:54] sense for WordPress because so much of
[01:57] what people do here revolves around
[01:58] writing, editing, and tidying up
[02:00] content. So that's where this starts to
[02:02] feel less like AI for the sake of AI and
[02:04] more like AI being dropped into parts of
[02:06] the workflow where it might genuinely
[02:08] earn its keep. And then we got the
[02:10] feature that will probably get the most
[02:11] attention because well obviously it will
[02:13] do. Image generation. The latest AI
[02:16] experiments release adds promptbased
[02:18] image generation in the editor and in
[02:20] the media library. So you can generate
[02:22] an image, try variations and insert it
[02:25] straight into your content without
[02:26] leaving WordPress. Right. So, so far
[02:28] this all looks quite clever, which in
[02:30] fairness is exactly what AI features are
[02:32] supposed to look like in a demo. The
[02:35] real question, though, is whether any of
[02:36] these stay useful once you get past that
[02:38] novelty factor. Because if you build
[02:41] websites for clients, manage content
[02:42] properly, or care about consistency,
[02:44] then that's clever, but just simply
[02:46] isn't enough. You need to know whether
[02:48] it saves time, whether it fits into a
[02:50] normal workflow, whether the results are
[02:52] any good, and whether it creates more
[02:53] checking and fixing afterwards than it
[02:55] saves in time upfront. And that's the
[02:58] bit that actually matters to most of us.
[03:00] So let's test a few of these features
[03:02] properly and see where this feels useful
[03:05] and where it starts feeling like
[03:06] something that look brilliant in a
[03:07] meeting. Now the plug-in's own
[03:09] documentation frames these features as
[03:11] experiments, opt-in and subject to
[03:13] change with additional features such as
[03:15] contextual tagging, comment moderation,
[03:18] type ahead suggestions, image editing,
[03:20] and onboarding flows still heavily in
[03:23] development. Before we move on, let's
[03:25] take a moment to have a message from
[03:26] today's video sponsor, Omnisend. Now, if
[03:29] you're looking for solid email marketing
[03:30] platform e-commerce store, look no
[03:32] further than Omnisend. Getting started
[03:34] is an absolute breeze. You can try
[04:24] Omniscent today and discover why they're
[04:26] the best choice for your e-commerce
[04:27] business with unbeatable pricing,
[04:29] powerful features, and exceptional
[04:30] support. Link in the description down
[04:32] below.
[04:35] So, first of all, let's kick things off
[04:36] with taking a look at how you can use
[04:38] the title generation option. So, I've
[04:40] got my title inside Journey. It's a
[04:42] little bit on the long- winded side. So,
[04:44] you can see we've got the regenerate
[04:46] option. If we click it, we now get three
[04:49] different title suggestions. As you can
[04:51] see, some of these are slightly shorter,
[04:54] and you can just choose whichever one
[04:55] you think is right for you. In this
[04:58] example, I like the second option. So,
[05:00] let's select it. We update our title,
[05:02] but you can carry on doing this if you
[05:03] want to. You can come back in and
[05:04] regenerate a second time. You can see
[05:06] this gives you three variations based
[05:08] upon this title. So you could use this
[05:10] to kind of flesh things out. It would be
[05:12] nice to have a little bit more control
[05:14] inside here. So you could stay inside
[05:16] the one area to be able to get various
[05:18] different suggestions, maybe tweak it
[05:20] with manual input and so on, but it's a
[05:23] starting point. It's kind of useful. So
[05:25] that's pretty cool. So we'll click out
[05:27] of that. So there's the first part done.
[05:28] We now have our updated title. Now
[05:31] you'll notice that I don't have a
[05:32] featured image set inside here. So, I
[05:34] could set a featured image in the normal
[05:36] way by clicking and coming into our
[05:38] media library and uploading from here
[05:40] should I want to, but that's not really
[05:42] very AI focused. So, let's use the new
[05:44] generate featured image button. You
[05:47] click on this. This is now going to take
[05:49] a look at the content of our article and
[05:51] generate what it considers to be a
[05:53] starting point image. And after a few
[05:56] moments, it's not the quickest, I will
[05:57] say. You have a AI generated image. So,
[06:01] you can see we can click on this and
[06:03] take a look. It's already added into our
[06:04] library. You see the alt text has been
[06:06] added in and everything else is here
[06:08] including the description which tells
[06:10] this is open AI generated image and a
[06:13] very long prompt that's going on with
[06:14] it. And you can if you want to
[06:16] regenerate the alt text inside here.
[06:18] We'll come on to the alt text in a
[06:19] moment cuz that is one of the areas that
[06:21] I think is truly quite a useful feature
[06:23] that's part of these AI experiments. But
[06:25] for now, let's say we're happy with that
[06:27] featured image. We'll set that. There's
[06:29] our featured image done. Again, having
[06:31] more control over these options would be
[06:33] kind of useful. So, we can we can tell
[06:35] it what kind of image we want to have as
[06:37] opposed to it reading through the text
[06:39] and coming back with what it thinks is a
[06:41] good image starting point. Let's move on
[06:43] to the excerpts. Now, if you are like
[06:45] me, you like don't mind writing the
[06:47] content of the article itself, but when
[06:48] it comes to an excerpt where you kind of
[06:50] summarize what it's about or little bit
[06:51] of sales pitch, it's not always
[06:53] something you're that good at doing. So,
[06:55] having an AI option here is quite
[06:57] useful. You'll see we've got the option
[06:59] to generate an excerpt. So, we'll click
[07:01] on this. That again is going to read
[07:02] through the content. Take a look at
[07:04] what's in there and come back with its
[07:06] own summary which we'll use for the
[07:08] excerpt. And we can edit this excerpt if
[07:10] you want. And we'll see there's our
[07:11] excerpt. And you can see inside here
[07:14] effective web design bins begins with
[07:16] structure communication blah blah blah
[07:17] blah blah. So, it's created an excerpt
[07:20] that we can use without has us having to
[07:22] do it manually. Again, all good starting
[07:24] points. If you want to refine this,
[07:26] absolutely refine it, tweak it to
[07:28] whatever you want or delete it and start
[07:30] again. You can absolutely do that as
[07:31] well. So you can say you can regenerate
[07:33] the excerpt. There we go. We now have a
[07:36] different excerpt again based upon the
[07:38] content of the article that we've
[07:39] written. So again, quite a nice useful
[07:42] little feature. And I think that's where
[07:44] this is going. I wasn't the biggest fan
[07:46] of having AI inserted into WordPress,
[07:48] but I can see the benefits of a lot of
[07:50] the features here, especially the
[07:51] excerpts and the ability to have the alt
[07:54] text and everything set up for you. With
[07:56] regards to the featured image, not
[07:58] really the biggest fan of that. I'd
[08:00] rather have control of that myself, but
[08:01] it's there in a pinch should you need
[08:03] it. Then, if we want to add an image
[08:05] into the actual flow, we can come in and
[08:07] we can just go in and search for an
[08:08] image like we normally do, and we'll add
[08:11] an image. And you'll see now we've got
[08:13] upload, generate image, media library,
[08:16] insert from URL. So we've had the other
[08:18] three there for the longest time, but
[08:20] generate image is obviously new. So
[08:22] we'll click on generate image. Now we
[08:23] can describe what we want. So this is
[08:25] what I would like to see when it comes
[08:26] to the featured image. So we'll pop in
[08:29] the kind of prompt we want to use. Hit
[08:31] generate. [snorts] Then after a few
[08:33] moments, quite a few moments actually.
[08:35] It does take quite a while to do this,
[08:36] but that's what you kind of get with
[08:38] most AI image generation. You'll see
[08:40] it's now generated an image based upon
[08:41] exactly what I asked it to do. And in
[08:44] all honesty, it's not a bad image. You
[08:45] can see we can use this generate another
[08:47] image or we can edit the prompt from
[08:49] here. So let's say we'll use the image
[08:51] that will automatically generate the alt
[08:53] text for that image which again saves us
[08:55] another step. So this is actually quite
[08:57] a useful kind of set of options. And you
[08:59] see there's our image inserted in. And
[09:02] if we click on this you can see we have
[09:03] the alt text over on the right hand
[09:05] side. We can regenerate this and we have
[09:06] all our normal controls here as well. So
[09:09] if we wanted to make this square for
[09:10] example, we can absolutely do that. So
[09:13] now what we can do is we can generate
[09:15] review notes. So this is going to look
[09:16] through and it's going to give us
[09:17] suggestions on how we can improve the
[09:19] actual content. So let's say let's
[09:22] generate review notes. This is going to
[09:24] go through in this example 22 different
[09:27] blocks and it's going to give us the
[09:28] feedback based upon the content we have.
[09:31] Okay. So it's gone through now and it's
[09:33] created those review notes. But you'll
[09:34] notice that it doesn't really
[09:36] immediately jump out at you what you've
[09:38] got to do here. Yes, it's popped up here
[09:40] and says 11 suggestions added. View
[09:42] these notes here. So, we can click on
[09:44] this and we can view them. And you see
[09:46] there's our notes. So, as we scroll
[09:48] through our article, our content, you
[09:50] can see it comes back with various
[09:53] different suggestions. So, for example,
[09:55] we've got SEO. The heading, the power of
[09:57] asking the right questions is vague and
[09:59] does not clearly describe the section
[10:01] topic related to the client
[10:02] questionnaire in web design projects.
[10:04] What would be quite cool to you now
[10:05] though is if it came up with the ability
[10:07] to give us suggestions. So we could
[10:09] click and say suggest better options and
[10:12] it will come back and give us those
[10:14] suggestions. But it doesn't. But
[10:16] hopefully that's something that will be
[10:17] added later on down the line. If you've
[10:19] ever again I say use Grammarly that will
[10:21] give you the option to be able to
[10:22] suggest better kind of versions. And you
[10:24] can see we can leave feedback here and
[10:27] we'll hit reply.
[10:29] Okay, so now that gives us the ability
[10:31] to sort of pop that information inside
[10:33] there and you can see we've now got the
[10:34] conversation going here for our notes.
[10:36] So we can click and that'll show us the
[10:37] note. So that's quite cool, quite
[10:39] useful. Finally, let's take a look at
[10:41] the generate AI summary. This is going
[10:44] to take a look and summarize the overall
[10:46] content on the page. This is generally
[10:48] relatively quick. Says it will create a
[10:50] summary block that is a summary of the
[10:51] content the post generated by AI. So we
[10:54] click on that, let it go ahead and read
[10:56] the content. And you see that was very,
[10:58] very quick. That was in real time. So
[11:00] that now pops this in right at the
[11:02] beginning. And again, if we want to, we
[11:04] can regenerate it from the sort of popup
[11:06] or we can regenerate it from the button
[11:08] over the right hand side. So now we've
[11:10] seen some of this in action. Let's take
[11:11] a look at how we would actually set this
[11:12] up for ourselves. At the moment, we've
[11:15] got three different AI connectors that
[11:17] we can use with WordPress 7. That allows
[11:19] us to connect us to Anthropic, Google,
[11:21] and Open AI. So you simply drop in the
[11:24] API key for whichever of these you want
[11:26] to use and then once you've done that
[11:28] you have that connected and it's then
[11:30] available to any tool inside WordPress 7
[11:34] and above that can connect up to AI.
[11:36] What this is effectively doing is giving
[11:38] you a centralized location for your API
[11:42] that you don't have to put into every
[11:43] single plug-in builder theme whatever's
[11:45] using it when you install them. This is
[11:48] a smart way of working. It gives us that
[11:50] centralized location. So if we want to
[11:51] change something, we can change it in
[11:53] one place and all of those plugins that
[11:56] use it will then be updated accordingly.
[11:58] Smart way of working. I do like that.
[12:01] Then once you've got that set up, you
[12:02] can jump into the A experiments, which
[12:04] is currently a plug-in you've got to
[12:06] install. And inside here, you can choose
[12:08] what experiments you actually want to
[12:10] include. Now I've already gone through
[12:12] some of the basics here. There are
[12:13] additional features. I would recommend
[12:15] taking a look at the change log, but you
[12:17] can see we've got excerpt generation,
[12:18] alt text, image generation, review
[12:20] notes, content summarization, and title
[12:22] generation. We've seen all of those.
[12:25] We've also got the abilities explorer.
[12:27] So, AI powered features for the
[12:29] WordPress admin area, including
[12:31] exploration and testing tools. So, if we
[12:33] come into tools and we choose the
[12:35] abilities explorer, providing you've got
[12:37] this enabled, this will show you the
[12:39] abilities explorer information. So, alt
[12:41] text generation, it tells you the slug
[12:43] for that. It's a plug-in. You can view
[12:45] it. You can test it so you can get more
[12:47] information about the different features
[12:49] you've got inside here for these AI
[12:51] tools. So, let me summarize and give you
[12:53] my feedback. First of all, the
[12:56] connectors option. I do think that's a
[12:58] smart way of working because it means
[13:00] that we don't have to handle API keys in
[13:02] every single plug-in or tool inside
[13:04] WordPress that uses one. One centralized
[13:07] location, we can easily change that and
[13:09] everything will have that change
[13:11] reflected. That is a smart way of
[13:12] working. Moving on to some of the things
[13:14] we've seen inside the AI experiments,
[13:16] things like your title generation, your
[13:18] alt text generation, and so on. Again, I
[13:21] could see myself using various different
[13:22] tools here. Not so much the image
[13:24] generation. I'm not the biggest fan of
[13:26] AI images being used everywhere. In a
[13:29] pinch, they can be useful, but they're
[13:31] not always something I would want to
[13:33] use. But having it integrated in here is
[13:35] a nice kind of feature if you want to
[13:37] use it, and you can disable it if you
[13:39] don't want to use it. So you have
[13:41] control over that. I think the things
[13:43] like the alt generation and so on, title
[13:44] generation, even if it just sparks your
[13:46] interest. Even if it just gives you
[13:48] ideas, I think that's a good starting
[13:50] point. The all text, yes, that's
[13:52] something I absolutely hate doing. I
[13:54] generally tend to use SEO press to
[13:55] handle it. So I don't have to worry
[13:57] about that side of things. But having a
[13:59] natively supported inside WordPress 7
[14:01] and above is a smart way of working. So
[14:04] I don't think what we're seeing inside
[14:05] these AI experiments is kind of
[14:07] groundbreaking at this point in time.
[14:10] And I'm sure there will be more
[14:11] controversial additions into WordPress
[14:14] in the future. But I think it's quite
[14:16] considered in how this first iteration
[14:18] is going and I could see a lot of use in
[14:20] various different tools here. But let me
[14:22] turn the tables over to you. What are
[14:24] your thoughts on these AI experiments?
[14:26] Could you see yourself using any of
[14:27] these or do you just think I'd rather
[14:29] just use something like Claude or Chad
[14:31] GPT or maybe even just move away from
[14:33] WordPress completely into AI vibe
[14:36] coding? Let me know in the comments
[14:38] section down below cuz I would love to
[14:39] know your thoughts on this. As always,
[14:41] all applicable links are in the
[14:43] description down below. My name is Paul
[14:45] C. This is WP Tutson. Until next time,
[14:48] take care.
[14:50] [music]
[14:54] [music]
[15:00] [music]

- Again, having more control over these options would be kind of useful so we can tell it what kind of image we want to have as opposed to it reading through the text and coming back with what it thinks is a good image starting point. Let's move on to the excerpts. Now, if you are like me, you like doing right in the content of the article itself. But when it comes to an excerpt where you kind of summarize what it's about or a little bit of sales pitch, it's not always something you're that good at doing. So having an AI option here is quite useful. You'll see we've got the option to generate an excerpt. ([View Highlight](https://read.readwise.io/read/01kkc5vecyf0eyx9j1g7h96ca1))
