WordPress 7.0 Release Candidate 5 🔗 **Source:** [WordPress 7.0 Release Candidate 5](https://make.wordpress.org/core/2026/05/19/wordpress-7-0-release-candidate-5/) > [!note]+ Document Notes > tags: #wordpress-core #wp-7-0 #release-candidate #release-testing > author: Amy Kamala > source: Make WordPress Core > reference: https://make.wordpress.org/core/2026/05/19/wordpress-7-0-release-candidate-5/ > date: 2026-05-19 > <!-- deep-read:sections start --> ## 🧰 Action Inbox - [H1] **Test WordPress 7.0 RC5 on a test site before May 20 release** — This is the *final* RC before tomorrow's general availability. Use the WordPress Beta Tester plugin (Bleeding edge channel, Beta/RC stream), the direct download zip, WP-CLI (`wp core update --version=7.0–RC5`), or the WordPress Playground instance for browser-only testing. #wp-testing - [H2] **Skim the closed Trac tickets since May 14 and Gutenberg commits** to understand what was fixed between Beta 5 and RC5 — relevant for the 7.0 release post and for any GoDaddy customer-facing 7.0 messaging. #release-notes - [H2] **Read the 7.0 Field Guide** (linked from the post) for the substantive feature highlights — RC5 itself is a stabilization release, not a feature release. The Field Guide is the actual content artifact. #field-guide - [H3] **Watch the May 20 release party** — Final 7.0 release tomorrow. Worth being present for FAIR.pm/WPCC visibility and for the GoDaddy WordPress 7.0 release post timing. #release-day ## 🎯 Bottom Line WordPress 7.0 Release Candidate 5 is the *extra* RC before the scheduled May 20, 2026 final release. This is a stabilization RC for fixes between Beta 5 and final, not a feature release. Standard "don't run on production" warning. Four testing methods documented: Beta Tester plugin, direct zip download, WP-CLI, WordPress Playground. ## 📖 Key Details - **Release post author:** Amy Kamala (@amykamala) - **Posted:** May 19, 2026, 19:42 UTC - **Final release scheduled:** Wednesday, May 20, 2026 - **Why an extra RC:** "Testing for issues is critical to the development of any software, and testing works! This RC is being released to test changes prior to the final release of 7.0." - **Proofreading credits:** @sergeybiryukov, @huzaifaalmesbah ### Testing methods 1. **Plugin path:** WordPress Beta Tester → Bleeding edge channel → Beta/RC stream 2. **Direct download:** wordpress-7.0-RC5.zip 3. **Command line:** `wp core update --version=7.0–RC5` 4. **WordPress Playground:** in-browser, no setup required ### What changed between Beta 5 and RC5 - Gutenberg commits filterable by date range (since 2026-05-14) - Closed Trac tickets queryable by changetime + milestone ### The traditional haiku > Gift for everyone > RC5 shines like the sun > Test it and have fun ## ✅ Logical Validity N/A — Factual release announcement, no contested claims. ## 🛡️ DARVO Analysis N/A. ## 🚩 What's missing from this post - The actual feature highlights of 7.0 (in the Field Guide, not here) - Specific issues that prompted the extra RC (would need to read closed tickets directly) - Any explicit timing dependency for the FAIR.pm steering committee or WPCC release messaging ## 🌍 For DevRel / WordPress context RC5 itself is procedural. The substantive content for GoDaddy DevRel work is: 1. **The 7.0 Field Guide** (separate post, linked) 2. **The May 20 release party** — needs presence/visibility 3. **The release post on GoDaddy blog** (already in your work history — needs final-day pass) 4. **FAIR.pm distribution implications** of any 7.0 changes — worth a quick check of the Field Guide <!-- deep-read:sections end --> 📄 **Full text:** ![[Full Document Contents/Articles/WordPress 7.0 Release Candidate 5.md|WordPress 7.0 Release Candidate 5 by Amy Kamala (WordPress Core)]] ## Highlights - The scheduled final release date for WordPress 7.0 **May 20, 2026**.
