([Location 228](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=228)) - An orphan has no protection and no provision other than what he can create for himself and must struggle for survival by whatever means necessary. ([Location 276](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=276)) - The inheritance to which a child is entitled from a father is the love, support, and resources of a household. ([Location 287](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=287)) - Where the predominant culture is one of fatherlessness, the religious systems bend to cater to the desires of the orphaned society. ([Location 347](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=347)) - To embrace one’s identity as a son, one must change his prevailing culture. ([Location 462](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=462)) - Effecting cultural change requires a trans-generational effort, in which a change in the culture is but one of the first steps of a long journey to reestablish, fully, the House of God. ([Location 464](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=464)) - The purpose of repositioning humankind as sons and heirs to God is to establish the family of God on the earth and to display the love of God, through his sons, to all of creation. ([Location 466](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=466)) - the individual is defined within the context of himself, and is responsible for his own provision and protection. The orphan does not expect to receive any measure of help from the generation of his father. Since he has inherited nothing of value from the past, he does not believe that a necessary part of his identity is to convey an inheritance to future generations. ([Location 534](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=534)) - Family has become an amorphous concept, superficial and highly changeable. These highly variable circumstances have resulted in a deep yearning for a place of belonging and for identity. These experiences have yielded the simultaneous and contradictory desires for privacy and recognition. ([Location 555](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=555)) - The foundation of our relationship to God the Father, and the foundation of our destiny as children of God, is the relationship of fathers and sons. ([Location 571](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=571)) - In past decades of fast-rising consumerism, the fatherless generation was abandoned by busy parents and assuaged with the most popular forms of electronic entertainment. ([Location 580](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=580)) - Environmentalism appeals to this generation, because of their need for security in their provision. ([Location 603](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=603)) - To avoid irrelevance, the churches that have large numbers of attendance have messages that are custom tailored to placate the fatherless culture. ([Location 635](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=635)) - market-sensitive messages designed around consumer preferences and have no actual spiritual relevance. ([Location 638](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=638)) - Although on the surface it appears that this generation is driven by consumerism, it is true, nevertheless, that it has a deep longing for spiritual truth. ([Location 640](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=640)) - Through this lens, the person who has rejected all the evils of modernism, such as racism, economic colonialism, and exploitation of nature and is laboring to create a society based on fair trade, green technology, and a zero carbon footprint is one who possesses all the qualities of an evolved human. ([Location 727](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=727)) - An essential characteristic of religious postmodernists as a group is that they have replaced the image of a father with that of the group. ([Location 731](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=731)) - They may accept a father figure as a “mentor.” ([Location 733](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=733)) - The orphan relies upon no one but himself, and believes that his future is of his own making. ([Location 748](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=748)) - In his self-reliance, the orphan never fully trusts any other person, and is committed to his own well-being as his first priority. ([Location 750](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=750)) - His destiny is defined by his skills, and he does not view his life’s purpose as part of an unfolding reality. His destiny can only be calculated to augment his ability to supply what he needs, and his success is measured in terms of his accomplishments. ([Location 752](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=752)) - He lives between the natural world and the spiritual world and manages to maintain his mental health by keeping these two worlds completely separate. ([Location 757](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=757)) - most religious traditions choose to see man as a creation that God made for the purpose of worshiping Him. ([Location 782](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=782)) - By contrast, a servant or slave has neither the culture of the father, to rule as the father would rule, nor the inclination to act for the benefit of future generations of rulers. ([Location 906](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=906)) - Although the headquarters remained in heaven, the rule of the Kingdom was now on earth in the same fashion in which it was in heaven. ([Location 916](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=916)) - God often chooses to explain great truths of heaven through references to the plant and animal kingdom. ([Location 950](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=950)) - Human relationships, however, are the most consistently utilized format through which God explains Himself. ([Location 952](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=952)) - Without Eve’s administration, Adam’s authority would remain with him alone. ([Location 978](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=978)) - By creating Eve out of Adam, God made it possible for them to have the closest relationship possible between two human beings. This was meant to portray the type of relationship possible between God and man on the basis of one Spirit to another spirit. ([Location 979](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=979)) - Although Adam and Eve were separate creatures with individual identities, they were designed by God to function interdependently and without competition. ([Location 984](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=984)) - Then, by reason, the man concluded that his reality was not spirit but flesh; he began to engage that reality by fashioning clothing for his flesh. Whereas, previously, as long as he saw himself as a son to his Father, he accepted the fact that he was a spirit, because his Father was spirit. His flesh was the clothing with which God clothed the spirit, and he was not naked, but was a spirit clothed in flesh.67 Both Adam and Eve made a conscious and deliberate choice that permanently altered their vision of reality. ([Location 1160](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1160)) - The purpose of the soul is to translate the realm of spirit to the natural. ([Location 1198](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1198)) - Man’s soul, then, is meant to interpret and present God’s divine nature and eternal purposes to the natural world. ([Location 1201](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1201)) - The fall destroyed this elegant balance and freed the soul to act independently of the spirit. ([Location 1208](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1208)) - Both the soul and the spirit are similar in their constituent parts. Each has three components, a mind, a will, and a heart. ([Location 1236](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1236)) - mind serves as the basis for information upon which the spirit or soul bases its view of reality. The will assembles the resources available to the spirit or soul to interact with creation and actualize that reality. The heart supplies the motivation for the pursuit of the reality. ([Location 1238](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1238)) - The mind of the soul receives its information from three sources: the world, the flesh, and the devil. ([Location 1249](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1249)) - These influences are corrupt. Therefore, the information assembled by the mind of the soul is corrupt, and the resulting conclusions about reality reflect the taint of that corruption. ([Location 1255](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1255)) - the components of the spirit are designed to function only in harmony with the Spirit of God. ([Location 1267](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1267)) - the restoration of the culture of the spirit is progressive, not instantaneous. ([Location 1274](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1274)) - Love is the only emotion greater than fear. ([Location 1284](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1284)) - Salvation has never been, therefore, just a matter of going to heaven, but is the process by which man is saved from the condition of separation from God that has existed since the days of the first Adam. ([Location 1733](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1733)) - Salvation means being saved from the mindset and culture of an orphan and reintegrated into the House of God, by which process we are renewed as His sons. ([Location 1742](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1742)) - The culture of the orphan has no capacity for the intimacy with the Father that would cause the Father to earnestly desire direct communication with the spirit of His son. ([Location 1777](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1777)) - The soul continues to wrestle with the spirit for control of the human being; and though it is always possible to make choices by the spirit, man, in his immaturity, will often default to the vision of reality with which his soul has become familiar over the years of his life. ([Location 1819](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1819)) - The process of maturing is designed to limit and restrict the input of the soul in determining the nature of reality. ([Location 1859](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1859)) - Religious practice is based largely upon relating to the natural as if it were the spiritual. ([Location 1951](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B005YFJOEE&location=1951)) ## Related by Author - [[3. Resources/Readwise/Books/The Removal of Restraint|The Removal of Restraint]]
