### Automattic
I’ve been building internet things longer than WordPress existed. I remember using MovableType and Gray Matter (I think that was the name) to build my first few sites. I’m obsessed with the idea of publishing online.
Eventually, I found myself working at Automattic. It’s been over 13 years, and I couldn’t imagine a better place to work.
I came to Automattic with a single goal: I wanted to work on something for “the long term.” I’d done short stints at agencies, freelanced, ran my own agency, and always hated the ephemeral output of those ways of working.
I joined Automattic because I wanted to dedicate myself to something–creatively–over the long term.
WordPress is a big part of that, but I see my work as building Automattic. The products, the processes, the people.
Automattic has changed the way I think about work, and how I contribute to the world at large. It’s a place that values craft. It’s a place that values perspectives. It’s a place that values the individual. I hope to retire (sooner than later!) having Automattic be the last entry on my resume.
Most days, I wake up excited to design and build cool stuff. As long as that’s true, I’ll keep running this marathon.
