Cursor is pivotting.. to Wordpress?

It's beginning to feel like AI was onebig conspiracy to try and getnon-technical people to learn how tocode. Ever since Lovableslaunched, I've had CEOs that don't knowwhat a variable is try to explain howAPIs work to me. It seems like thelast bastion of hope, the sanctuary thatprogrammers hold on to for dear life.Their IDE is also under assault becauseCursor just announced their new visualeditor that lives right inside of theirIDE.
Honestly, I do a lot of my design workin code because to me, it's like workingwith clay. You kind of have to feel outthe different things going on to evenunderstand what the right solution is.All you need to do is navigate tothe browser tab inside of Cursor, select an element, and you can start making changes to yoursite directly. If you want to actuallyrearrange the layout of somethingjust purely visually, you can now dragand drop.
Oh, let's try to center this thing.Yeah, centering divs can be a bit of apain. All you need to do is just click on the alignment here.
Apply, and an agent will kick off tomake those changes.Entering divs is a hilarious example touse for their demo because, number one, even though it's a pretty well-knowncode meme, it's something that yourproduct manager might actually ask forand think is a pretty hard thing to do.And number two, they want to set the barnice and low so that if anything goeswrong, it sort of feels like the initialuse case is just being able to center adiv. And when it does get things right, you're like, "Wow, I didn't know itcould actually refactor my entire site."I just feel like for so long, design andengineering have been seen as like twoseparate disciplines or two separatepeople. And with this new tool, we'reable to combine both so that you caniterate not just on your designs, but onthe actual product you're working on
visually. It's not about, "I'm a designer,I'm an engineer." We were forced to makea decision, but now we don't haveto. It's pretty funny that they make thedistinction between engineers anddesigners as if those are going to bethe major users of this feature. We allknow the main power user of this isGoing to be that one technical managerat your company. You know, the same onethat, even though the UI has beenapproved five times up to thispoint, and we're launching the featuretoday, they have some last-minute changesthat need to get pushed in an hourbefore we launch. I expect a lot of usto start getting DMs on how to clonethe repo so they can locally check outthis new drag-and-drop for their UI andcursor. Anyway, it seemed pretty cool,so naturally I wanted to give it a shot.
AI landing pages have come a long waysince Bolt and Lovable first came on thescene. This is my simple landingpage I put together with Framermanually. It took us about 20 minutes. We just needed something up, and Igot Cursor to look at my codebase andgenerate a giant summary of what our appactually does. Then, I gave it acouple of images, references of what thecurrent landing page looks like, as wellas what the app looks like and our logo.I asked it to make an absolutelybeautiful, stunning Framer-lookinglanding page for my tech startup,phallom.com. While it did a lot ofweird things, like for example, it'sStill not able to take the images youpass it and just save them and use themin your codebase. Like, it remade ourlogo based on what it thought it lookedlike instead of just using the .png thatI gave it. The result was actuallysurprisingly decent for the littleinstruction I gave it because itcouldn't use the screenshot that I gaveit, it actually remade what itthought our platform would look like touse as a fake screenshot in theapp, which is actually kind of sick. Andhonestly, I think I will eventuallyreplace our Framer one with one made byCursor because this looks prettydecent out of the box. And instead ofusing screenshots, I can probably justhook this up to my existingcomponents. So when it renders a mockup,it's using real components. And
that way, if I change how the UI looksinternally, it'll also change how thefront page looks as well. But what wereally want to test here is how wellthis WordPress Figma feature works. Itlooks like I can highlight any singleobject or div here. And I can justchange things like how flexbox works. Ican also have the text align inDifferent ways depending on what I'mgoing for. I can add padding. And yeah,it literally looks like they just remadeFramer, Figma, Webflow but inside of Cursor. It doesn'tseem like there's an easy way to double click and change the texthere, which I'm sure is going to be thevery first thing that a product managerusing this will try to do. The drag anddrop is actually kind of intuitive touse as well. The one weird thing is whenI drag and drop this in the samespot, it changed the alignment of theactual text. And a cool thing is you canselect whatever it is you’re tryingto select. For example, I can selectthis entire div and I can actually goand use that as a reference here as youcan see in the Cursor chat. So, it'spassing in the actual element aswell as all the attributes. I'm assumingthe Cursor agent, when I type what Iwant, it'll know what to do. Can youremove lang chain from here? We don'tofficially have support for it justquite yet. And also change traditionalAPM on that table to be something likeother observability provider. Andit looks like it did it really well.
Like this is a nice way to control whatthe LM is actually changing. Andhonestly, I know I joked about product managers and stuff using it, butI think I'm going to start using thishere. I'm going to just drag and dropthe actual logo into the chat. Pleaseuse the file I've just attached as thelogoand let's see if that ends up working. So, it created a logo.pngthat said this is a placeholder. Theactual image needs to be copied from theuser's attachment and now it's trying todelete logo.png that it justcreated. How did it even make a png file
with text inside of it? I don'tknow. So, yeah. While not everything incursor looks like it works completelyproperly, this is actually a reallysick feature and the UI is actuallyextremely well done.Anyways, if I were you guys, I would probably use this as adeveloper. But hide this at all costsfrom anyone on your team that isnon-technical other than your actualdesigner. Boys, I think it's fair to saywe only have a small amount of timebefore everyone starts trying to get upin all our code business.
Salute everyone that is going to have todeal with a PM, their manager, or somehigh-up director in their organization pushing upmerge requests with random items thatthey did on cursor. At least with toolslike claw code or warp, a terminal isjust a bit too intimidating for anon-technical person to engage with. This is going to make our lives alot easier, but also a lot harder at thesame time.
