ones I used regularly that Ilove in 2022 on Mac OS so buckle uplet's get into themfirst off unsurprisingly we haveobsidian it is one that I I don't evenremember the first time I picked it upbut it's been a while I use it all 2022to take all my notes to write my YouTubescripts to write many of my blog poststo do research on a book that I'mworking towards everything goes in there lots of stuff goes in there really uhdaily notes so I don't use daily notesall the time but what I'm saying gonnawriteum an email or an easy doing someresearch to collect a post into a slackor into a GitHub ticket I already inobsidian on the day tagged with theclient taggedum so I can get it later instead I canjust have it in one spot and then justlet the text go awayrealistically we've barely scratched thesurface of what obsidian can do I'vedone a ton of videos on it so check outmy playlist on PKM and note taking ifyou want to know so much more aboutobsidian and what it can do for your workflows next up is Plex I really doveinto Plex in 2022s I'd had it for awhile I'd use it a bit but it was alwayskind of sketchy but at the end of 2022 Ipicked up a Synology which sits behindme on a shelf and really dove into Plexyou know finished getting everything setup properly so that I can watch it fromanywhere even just use it this weekendin a hotel hooked my iPad up to the TVand I streamed via Plex some of our homemovies for the kids as we away for theweekend I just needed like some chilltime where they weren't being crazy andthey weren't bugging me so I also needed the chill time Plex get a lifetimelicense 100 recommended next up is canvaso let's bring that up go to Safariand go to canvaso I actually use this most often behindme on my iPad but this is really what itis uh we're gonna cancel out of thatum and I use it on my iPad because thenI can use the apple pencil so but I usethat and I use the website sometimes topull files out so what this lets me dois say create design I can chooseYouTube thumbnail and then it gives me templatesso I can choose from here what templateI may want say for this video right so Icould do this right here this might beone I use and in fact I will use it youwill see this turned into a thumbnailfor this video so it lets me I'll swapout the photo because that's clearly notme I'll swap out the photo I'll do someother stuff to make it really tie intothe video and hopefully pop because I amnot a designer I can say when things arebad but I really literally do not knowmost of the time what to do to make themgood so we start with canvanext up a recent Edition not recent I've used it for a while but I really doveinto it fully in2022 is raycast so let's bring it upit's actually on the wrong screen for meso let's bring up finder over here so wecan have it show upthis is raycast is a launcher so somethings it does though is I can create areminder you can see here I've tied thatto a keyboard command which is commandcontrol option R it'll create a newreminder for me so if we do createreminder I can say this is my remindernotes I can add a date to it if I wanted I can priority and I can add it to alist if I wanted to say inboxed I hitEscapeand we've taken it out so other thingsit lets me do is type obsidian so I canopen a different Vault you can see I canactually go through my vaults and pickwhich Vault I want to openum I use uh obsidian also toum I'll do the next video on thisactually in the proud City one proudCity docs to keep docs and keep track ofprogramming stuff at work so this is theraycast site you can download it forfree at the moment right pricing oh they do have some zero personal use teamsis uh 10 per month so one of the thingsI like about this is also the workflowsif we go to the storenow let's look up uh obsidian is thereone obsidian bookmarks right obsidian sowe have differentum plugins that we can add differentextensions we can add to raycast toReally launched forward to let you doother things like have that obsidian uhone I used or have reminders or havethings three right I think these arethings three one as well things three right there so we can havethat as well to you know create tasks inthings three so I've used this I reallydefault to it I had used Alfred for along time but it's I don't know itlooked like it had so much power that Iwas never using I just wasn't digginginto it so I didn't I don't know whereasraycast feels easier to use easier forme to use also use it for my Snippetsright I can search my Snippets and getin here and decide what I'm going to dowith my Snippets or my clipboard historyis another oneclipboard I use that regularly as well to dig intoum just different things out of myclipboards that I can store multiplethings in my clipboard something Ireally wish iPad OS would get next up isread kit so this is read kit right hereit is an RSS reader for Mac OS I stilldo wish that unread was available on MacOS it is by far my favorite RSS client Iuse do most of IRS reading over there onmy iPad station but I do read on my Macas well and this is the app I use for itis clean it's just nice to use it'savailable in setup as well so I get it not for free but I get it through mysetup subscription I really like how itdeals with everything in the keyboardcommands match up between this andbetween unread so that's excellent forme that I have the keyboard commandsmatch up so I don't have to relearnkeyboard commands for each system nextup is BB edit so BB edit is a texteditor with GitHub shutting down theirtext editor atom which I use is bysecondary code editor I needed to find anew one and BB edit is it as you can seeI use it in free mode for my needs it is just easy enough to use in a free modeso I don't have to worry about itum I don't have to pay for it I actuallystarted my whole programming career withtextwrangler which was their freeversion of VB edit at the time and nowthey just have BB edit with a free modeso this is an excellent text editor it'sgot so much more power that I do not usethe biggest detriment for me is that itdoesn't have Vim control keys and I'm aVim person through and through so I justcan't use it I reached out to them yearsago will you ever have Bim control keysand they said no we won't so it's anexcellent text editor it's fast it'llopen up massive files and let's really easy to navigate through them reallyeasy to do everything with it BB edit isa stellar Mac citizen Stellar macprogram next my email client of choiceis mime Stream So This Is My Stream I'mnot going to show you mine because Iknow it's well overloaded with things Ishouldn't show off right now but it is agreat third-party email client reallyonly works with Gmail not really it onlyworks with Gmail at the moment but it'sjust a really nice one it's from anoriginal uh or one of the developers ofthe mail.app application for Mac OS andit is a stellar um application it's been free I've beenusing it all year for free but there's aoh there's a pricing tab now does itactually say itit does not say itum I wish it came out for IOS as welliPad OS and I just use it everywhere Ihave used spark for a long time but withtheir updates to their new way new wayof doing email it just it's a pain inthe butt now I don't like it I don'tlike mail.app I find the pain in thebutt so my stream is the one that I useabsolutely every time I'm on Mac OSand I hope it comes to iPad OS iOS at some point now we're going to look atsome of the utilities I use so these arethings that I just kind of hop in andhop out of I use a little bit pass awaysomething that I'm not in every dayregularly like all the other apps we'velooked at something like this likesilver so silver is a calculator rightlet me convert 188 pounds to kilogramsor do multiplication easily or what Ireally often use it for is figuring outmy finances in US Dollars Canadian sothis right here if I have 1500 us paidto me uh it gives me the total value andit gives me the taxes whatever the fee that I'm paying as a bank fee to stripethat and then at the end of the day if Isay oh I have 5200 in my bank account Ineed to move that to my other bankaccounts for business purposes it letsme go through here and say this is whereeverything goes that I know where itgoes and I can do my finances silver isinvaluable I even just used it to makesure I was correct on a taxdecalculation formula for work recentlythis is silver three I use silver 2 overmy iPad it works just as good they don'tsync back and forth because they're twodifferent versions of the application but I used silver 2 for years and now Iuse silver 3 on Mac OS next up Boop soBoop I dive into a couple times a weekfor sure usually for unserializing PHPuh strings so that I can see what allthis big string of text means but whatit does is it really just manipulatestext doesn't have any save you can'tsave anything out of this but so theysay this is the title and I could justdo case we could choose it we want thisto be sponge case if we wanted or wecould say uppercase no go to uppercaseright what I often use it for is unserialize so I do unserialized thislets me take data out of a database fora customer or for myself and put it inhere where it stays locally on mycomputer and I can you know convert itto a human readable format easily humanreadable format as opposed to beforewhere I'd have to go paste it on awebsite and then who knows what thatwebsite is doing with my text is itkeeping it is it sensitive but I don'teven have to think about it with Boop uhlots of conversions here lots ofexcellent ways to manipulate your texthighly recommended now BartenderBartender you look at my menu bar hereyou can see that it is oh you can't see it because we need to open up a finderwindow againso I have focus on this screen so youcan see my finder window just has finderand then nothing this is all blank untilI hover over it now I have all of theseother things going my recording goingright I have clean shotx which we'lltalk about in a bit uh Hazel runningstuff uh lots of different things uphere and this is what bartender does soif I go over hereright click and go to preferencesso bartender lets me adjust what's in mymenu bar takes things away so I just don't see everything all the time and Ican adjust my layout all right alwayshidden items or show these are the itemsI want to see just want to see what myCPU is doing how much memory I have andwhat my SSD is doing as wellexcellent I love bartender I've beenusing it for years it is available insetup as well so I love it in there andI just keep using it because it keeps mymenu bar clean for me now let's talkabout clean shot X I use this for everyscreenshot I take I change all thestandard keyboard commands to be cleanchat X so I can do something like shiftcran 4 and I could drag out my screenshot I wantedsee it shows up in the bottom corner andI could drag it into slack or into anyother way else what I often do for thescreenshots you'll see on the sitethough is that shift command 4 then I'llhit space and now it's selected thiswindowand now I can hit edit and I could say Isay I want to highlight something I dothis often for work and I can choose anarrow I can highlightand then I could put in some text aswellI can move things around if I want to aswell right put the Highlight there and what it's actually giving me is thisnice screenshot with my background soeven I have other windows back thereit'll take them all out it'll only showme the window I chose to screenshot Iuse for all the screenshots on my siteas well clean shot X is a phenomenalthere's far more that I've talked abouthere you can record videos you canrecord gifs there's so many differentoptions in the screenshot tool that youI have you just need it screenshot X isa phenomenal tool it is also availableStandalone or in setup you'll find allthe links in the description now we'regonna talk about Downy and then permute because they kind of go together so thisis a film artificial from Patagonia andI wanted to have this kind of on my inmy Plex Library something for myself soI click Downy I sent to Downey it'sgonna tell me it updated greatand now we can open Downy right here andyou can see it is downloading this videoright here me for me it's not not poppost processing it at the moment but Icould I could choose from all thedifferent settings here I can choosewhere it goes it chooses best quality wecan go through proxy servers to getstuff we can go to post processing and we can use permute as wellum to enforce MP3 we can stitch togethermulti-part downloads there's lots ofstuff we can do herenow permute is another one that goeswith thispermute I use all the time this isreally just an all-purpose fileconverter so something I often do is ifwe go to finder and I go to Applicationsand it doesn't even matter what app Iuse let's go to Affinity show packagecontentsgo to contents and we can go toresourcesand I can go to icns so this icns icon file isn't going to work well with someof the other things that I have for myimage processing flow so if I drag it inhere and hit play at the start it'llautomatically convert it to a PNG filefor me so you can startand I would normally put this on mydownloadsand now it has done that for me so I goto my downloads nowI have an app icon right there in a PNGformat which means it's transparentwhite background because canva won'thandle the icns file and a bunch of other applications won't as well I usethis all the time just to convert filesbetween different files so I can havethe copies of the formats that I wantpermute is excellent for converting bigvideo files or for like this convertingthis app icon file love them both bothavailable and send app now let's talkabout lungo it's this coffee cup up herewhat this does is just keeps my Macawake I generally like to keep my Macawake I often running server processesthat just need to stay open my terminalneeds to stay active and running so thenI will use this right here soindefinitely usually and definitely when I turn it on you just keep it always onall the time my Mac never went to sleepbut now I just leave it to indefinitelywhen I turn it on so hit this littlecoffee cup and it just stays on for methere are other apps that do this thisis the one that's available in setupthat I really like that I've used againfour years since I've had set up nowlet's make an honorable mention I sayhonorable mention because I haven't usedthe entire suite and it has just comeout at the end of 2022. so this is theAffinity Suite of apps this is adesigner which is illustratorreplacementphoto use for Photoshop and publisherwhich you use for InDesign so I've used designer and photo for years on my iPadand on Mac OS and I have not eventouched Adobe software for a long timebecause I really don't like Adobesoftware so now with Publisher being outuh as an iPad app as well these are allcross-platform iPad and MacI can use it on both platforms easilyall the time and I jump back and forthbetween them regularly these are thephoto editing apps the image editingapps that I use and the publishing appsthat I use as well so I help mymother-in-law publish some children'sbooks as well and I do that with Publisher We Lay it all out together andthen I get them up set up on Amazon forherexcellent lets me take my files betweenmy iPad and my Mac seamlessly withoutany issues I love the Affinity apps TheHonorable mentioned because I haven'tdove into them as much in the version 2software but I absolutely recommend themwithout hesitation that's it are thereany apps that you have loved in 2022that are really sticking for you thatyou think I should know about let meknow in the
