Next up, and I need some help from the audience. I did not bring a drum, but I need some drum roll action. We are going to be doing the JavaScript Landia Awards. So, Kylie is coming up to join me on this. Uh, Kylie's promised me she's handling everything. So, I'll just sit here and be >> Yeah, >> I have a hard time with this word. It's a personal thing. I My My wife makes fun of me. Uh, I say bystander. >> Okay. >> Like, it's a second standard, not bystander. put a D on it if but I'll be
a bystander second standard over here. >> All right, awesome. Hi everyone. I'm Kylie. I'm head of marketing at the OpenJS Foundation. You might have seen my name tied to blog posts, socials, or just lurking on Slack and GitHub. Um but this is my actual face. I'm real. Um but this isn't my actual voice. I've just been having a lot of fun this week um meeting all of you at the conference. So today I have the honor of presenting this year's OpenJS Foundation Community
Awards. Um also known as the JavaScript Landy Awards. Um these awards recognize the contributors who form the backbone of open source. Beyond building new features, they guide others, maintain essential systems, um document the hard parts, and strengthen the community every step of the way. I see I have like a fan club on the iPad right there. Um so every year we ask the community to
nominate folks doing the work for our community. Um folks from our cross project council meet to decide the recipients in four areas of impact. You can see them on the screen right here. So we have unsung hero who takes on the invisible but essential work that keeps everything healthy. leading by example. Um folks who embody the foundation's values of being humble, helpful, and hopeful. Outstanding new arrival who jump into projects with fresh energy and big ideas. And then we have our Pathfinder awards um in education,
standards, security um that all kind of move those different fields forward while lifting others up. So, first I want to talk about the unsung hero award. Zoji is not here today. We do have some of our um recipients here today. So, I'll bring them up in a little bit. Um, but first we have the Unsung Hero Award. So, which honors people doing the behind-the-scenes work that keeps everything running smoothly. They fix things before they break, help others without being asked, and make our projects better um in quiet but lasting
ways. So, Zoji Chen, principal software engineer at Microsoft Research, is our unsung hero this year. Zoji's been a driving force behind Decgl for years and very active in our open visualization community, mentoring contributors, improving maintainability, and solving the gnarly problems that most people never even um see. She's rewritten the core libraries, automated releases, and written more documentation than anyone else, all while keeping everything
steady and secure. I actually had a chance to meet Zoji just last week, and it's true what they say. She really is a superstar. Zoji, thank you for everything you do for the open biz community. So, congratulations, Zoji. So, next I want to dive into our Pathfinder awards. Um, these recognize the people pushing the boundaries in education, standards, and security across the Java JavaScript ecosystem.
So, first I want to recognize Raphael Gonzaga for our Pathfinder for education. He's on the iPad right there. three. Um, Raphael is a principal open source engineer at Node Source. I know a lot of you know him. Um, Raphael has opened doors for new contributors through mentorship sessions, hands-on guidance, and tireless support within our Node community. Yeah, everyone wave to Raphael on the iPad. Uh, he's helped so many people take their first steps in open source and
that ripple effect is huge. Um, Raphael is actually our first two-time JavaScript Landy Award recipient after receiving the Pathfinder for security in 2023. So, congratulations, Raphael. All right, for security, our honore is Sarah Gooding, who is the head of content marketing at Socket. And this one is really near and dear to my heart because open source goes far beyond just code and Sarah's proof of just that.
Sarah shines a light on the corners of open source security that most of us would never find on our own. Through her reporting, she's helped the community stay informed, connected, and ready to take action. This award is so welld deserved. So, congratulations, Sarah. All right. Next, we're actually so lucky that Leia Veru is here in the front. Do a little wave. Leia has helped shaped how the web itself evolves, connecting rigorous technical work with the real world needs
of developers. Her leadership at the W3C has made the web more understandable and accessible for everyone who builds on it. We're so excited that she's here this week. So, congratulations, Leia. You could wait. Sorry. You can wait. Well, we're going to invite everybody who's here um on stage um in just a moment. Um so next we have outstanding contribution from a new arrival an award that celebrates the new voices who jump right in and make a real difference.
This honore is Aviv Keller who's here today and don't worry. Oh hi Aiv [Applause] came in hot this year tackling complex issues across node core API docs triage and more all while supporting others and helping them succeed. He's fearless with tough challenges and humble in collaboration. A perfect mix for long-term impact. Avivve, thank you for showing up with such dedication and making an immediate mark. We're so
excited that you're here this week with us at JSCOM. Congrats. All right, we have one more here. So, finally, we have leading by example. This award celebrates those whose leadership reflect reflects the values of the OpenJS Foundation. humble, helpful, and hopeful. Our honore this year is Ethan Arowwood at Harper. I don't know where you're at, Ethan. Do a little wave. Hi. Ethan has been an absolute powerhouse across multiple spaces from the OpenJS
program committee to Node.js, Undi, and the package metadata working group. He's also been instrumental in connecting organizations like Harper with the OpenJS Foundation, helping build a stronger and more collaborative community. Ethan, you really do lead by example and this community is better because of you. It's been such a pleasure to work so closely with you this year. Congratulations. So to all our winners, um, thank you. You remind us that open source isn't
just about code, but it's about the people. As Chris has mentioned, you're what makes this community strong, kind, and collaborative. So thank you., JavaScriptLandia Awards, OpenJS Foundation, 01k89fay275nds6ew0wyq0q517.
