I don’t mean to be controversial, butI’m stepping back into doing WordPresswebsite accessibility videos. Why am Idoing this? Because four months ago, Isaid I was done with accessibility. There was a lot of noise sometimes beingmade about the videos, what I said, orhow I explained things. I was either notdetailed enough, or I went overboard withmy detail. The biggest thing that’scaused a lot of drama is how I explainarea labels. How I went overboard and Iwas telling people to do things youdon’t have to do. That doesn’t mean whatI was saying was wrong; it’s just youdon’t have to do it. You don’t have togo to that empty degree. And I apologizefor that. I’ve learned a lot andI’ve improved what I’m doing and I wantto put more videos out, which is whyyou’re going to see one later today, which is about web accessibility.
But I don’t want to be afraid of peoplewho don’t like what I do or who have adifference of opinion because quitefrankly, I don’t massively care. Well, Ido care, but if they've got something tosay, they should come directly to me andnot beat about the bush with sneakycomments or, you know, like snideyRemarks and stuff like that. But I'vemissed doing web accessibility videosmainly because there are accessibilityvideos out there already. There's a lotof fantastic experts, okay? Anyone whohas done me wrong or been snide orcalled me a liar— they sayI mislead, I misrepresent and all ofthese things; I don't hate them. I havenothing against them. I just wish theywould start to understand that, a bit.
Like with any type of WordPress video, Icould do an elemental video, and someonemight not like the way I approached itor did it. I could do a bricks video;you might not like it. I could do anyvideo. I could do a video about SEO. Icould do a video about certain types ofplugins, how to do a hero banner fontclamp typography, code snippets.
You could do a video about anything you want, and someone maynot like it. But what we shouldn't do isresort to attacking each other in apublic way. And even if you don't namesomeone, you don't make a meal out ofit. You don't make a show of it. So, Ifeel like if I do anything that youdon't like or whatever, just go and doYour own video can explain it in adifferent or better way. You don'thave to name someone. You don't have todo a video where you say, "Iran did this"and "he's completely wrong." Or you don'teven have to say "I'm not goingto name them." I'm not going to say whowent and did XYZ. Well, they werecompletely wrong. No, you don't. It'slike if someone is showcasing a camera.
Someone else may look at it and say,"They weren't right on the pictureprofile of that camera or the way theyexplain the aperture or the exposure orsomething. That doesn't mean they haveto name the person or even refer to whatthey did wrong. No, what they'll do iscreate their own video. People often just wantto learn. They don't want to know aboutwhat someone else did, because there areenough social media outlets and trashnewspapers, magazines, and articlesthat dig into people. Oh my God, did yousee so-and-so without makeup? They lookawful. Well, yeah, that's because that'show they normally look. Makeup can makeanyone look good. But the point I'mmaking is web accessibility.
I'm stepping back in. And when I stepback in, I shouldn't even have to stepBack in, it was my choice to step awayfrom web accessibility videos, but I'mback in. I’m going to be doing them. Iwon't be doing a lot of them; I’ll onlydo them when I need to do them or when Ithink it’s useful, or maybe there’ssomething new that I want to showcase.
And don't forget, we have got a colorcontrast tool. I hope you go and visitthat, or I’ll pop a link for that in the videodescription if you want to stick thatinto your WordPress website. It’s free.
I don’t make anything out of it; there’sno affiliate commissions. If you want tocolor contrast your foreground andbackground against the WCAG 2.1Astandard, you can do that. But I’m Imranfrom Web Squadron. I love creatingvideos. I love teaching. I loveeducating. I love learning as well.
And I hope you find today’s later webaccessibility video, when it premieres, Iwill be there on the live chat as wellto talk to people. So, if you’ve gotanything good or bad to say, you mightas well put it in. But pleaseunderstand, I'm doing the best I can,and I hope you do the best you can., Let's kickstart the Web Accessibility Videos again!, Imran Siddiq - Web Squadron, 01jzjrhfgb7tmy4vejm14bgeej.
