let's make our first bible carson or digital connected bible note together um what we're gonna do we're gonna start by going to scripture let's go to romans and just see what comes up uh so start reading romans one now uh spoiler i actually have an idea for what i'm gonna do with this one but this is just an example of how you might be doing you're reading through the bible romans one looking paul a servant of jesus christ and you notice that it says paul a servant of jesus christ that's kind of interesting isn't it it's a title that he gives himself a servant of jesus christ is an interesting title so let's just double bracket it and now when i write when i command click on that i've created a note servant of jesus christ which is here and so i can just add something here this is the title that paul uses to refer to himself uh in romans i've connected back to the book of romans there we go uh that's just a small tiny note on this but it is interesting that this is the title that paul uses in romans but he uses different titles in different places so that gives me an idea for a note let's open this up uh the titles that pull um users yeah let's do that so now if i press enter i've created this to just go over how i did that i press command o to open up the quick switcher panel and you can start typing and find your notes there and if there isn't one press enter and you will create a note so here we are the titles that paul uses to create to so here we are the titles that paul uses to refer to himself let's just jot down all the pauline epistles romans whoopsie romans uh first corinthians ii corinthians galatians ephesians let's just do it like that philippians colossians one thessalonians 2nd thessalonians 1 timothy 2 timothy oh titus tito's hebrews uh well there's it's anonymous so it can't be ball so we can't use that for this note anyway even though let's not get into that uh so romans the title that he uses here is a servant servant of jesus christ so what i did there started because this is how a scene works if you do a double bracket double square bracket it will show you the notes that you have and you can add one of those notes there what about first corinthians let's go first corinthians 1 is called to be an apostle of jesus christ through the will of god let's just copy that let's go back to our titles that paul uses let's just put that there and we can reverse we can link back to this one so one core uh zero one so now we've got a link back to that one actually let's add here this is in our romans 0 1 so we've got a link to that one too second corinthians let's go what's title that he uses here uh paul an apostle of christ jesus through the will of god copy that one open let's go back you know as i'm doing this i'm actually thinking that maybe i will change how i do these things let's just do two core zero one because now i'm starting to wonder maybe i should have like sub headings but i just want to get the information down for the moment because i feel like there'll be some things apostle not from men nor through man but through jesus christ and god the father okay who raised him from the tent i'm gonna leave out who raised him from the dead just because uh because i can because i feel like that's a description rather than adding who he was called by gal uh not one galatians of course it's gal zero one ephesians let's open up ephesians zero one we're gonna pull an apostle and the word of god okay there we go let's go back titles of paul uses so we're noticing some patterns now he often calls himself an apostle uh he often says of christ jesus an apostle of christ through jesus christ though here so there are some differences seven of jesus christ is seeming really different than the other ones though so that's kind of interesting straight away ephesians f there's a one let's put that one there phil filippians zero one let's go paul and timothy servants of jesus servants of jesus christ look at that we found another servants hey uh because it's both of them perhaps perhaps why because because paul and timothy because timothy wasn't sermon so let's maybe just mark that there let's put philippians 0 1 servants of jesus christ jesus christ very interesting uh so colossians sir one apostle of jesus through the will of god and timothy our brother oh look at that this time he distinguishes himself and timothy they're not grouped together maybe they don't know timothy as well in colossians i can't remember i'm sure i've read this before but i can't remember what the what the case is and that's why we build a second brain so that we have notes to return back to uh okay so that's quite interesting thessalonians let's go one there onions oopsie because i went into spotlight um so that's the problem with using with using a mac of course you can access those files with anything so there we go paul silvianis and timothy to the assembly of of the thessalonians they don't even use a title in thessalonians that's pretty weird to the assembly does he give a title he doesn't give a title okay let's go back uh no title no title just pull sylvan yes i'm going to check the spelling of that and okay let's go back to do that a second though one fast one so i can open that one back up [Music] okay just make sure that i got the spine right cool i'm intrigued by this guy let's put that uh okay open two two thessalonians two thousand zero one again no title same people open makes sense sending a letter to the same place that you would do no titles only names okay and then let's link back to that to tim thessalonians 1 1 timothy now this one surely got to be different because it's pastoral it's to timothy so we should expect it to be just like hey tim or something like this brother paul an apostle pretty interesting to timothy my true child there you go like look at that there my true child maybe he knew that other people would read it or of course some people doubt that the uh that the pastoral letters were from paul but there we go an apostle of christ according to the commandments of our god our lord jesus it's a bit different isn't it is a bit different there we go and let's do one tim zero one okay let's go open to tim zero one look at that almost exactly the same but it is a bit different right oops whoopsie okay see okay let's see there we go uh an apostle two timothy zero one okay let's go to titus open titus whoopsie let's go to 01. a servant of god and an and an apostle look at that according to the faithful faith of god's church i'm good i'm gonna copy the whole thing i think let's go back title titus okay i'm just gonna bold that and i'm gonna do a servant of god okay is that the exact same thing that we had in the notes because i like doing exactly a servant of jesus christ that's something to god there you go it's actually not quite the same uh right that's open philemon which which chapter of philemon a prisoner of christ jesus whoa look at that and to our brother and timothy okay here we go two fighting let's open that back up titles boom okay and we'll just do fine i want to make sure there we go cool okay so we've got all of the references here now we can look at the patterns what titles are there i think i've seen three different different titles okay he goes by a servant of jesus christ he goes by a servant of god he goes by an apostle most of the time that's the most common one oh and we can indent it i guess an apostle of christ jesus through the will of god through the gods of christ jesus of jesus christ of jesus christ that's really it oh whoops christ chris jesus i'm not jesus jesus christ okay paul and simply servants uh-huh a7 servants of jesus is it jesus or jesus christ fallen to be servants of jesus christ there we go and then we have uh we also have no titles no title okay examples right so an apostle of jesus christ through the word of god through the world according to the command of god okay i'll say that and uh according to the command of god so there we go we can see that there are some differences here and you know it's it's interesting looking at which groups are in which ones we've got romans uh romans is servant servants is i'm actually going to i think i may just move these two down here because they're less common so that makes them more exceptional so what we can start to see here is like the whole point the idea for this note that i had was that i wanted to look at the relationship between paul and the people he's writing to because that affects the letter and you know in some cases we can see that paul is definitely kind of appealing to his authority as an apostle like he's he's pointing out that he's an apostle in galatians we know that there's like a conflict when we read that letter we see the conflict between the galatians and we see it with paul and we know that he has um you know that that's why he's saying not by man because there are these troublemakers in galatia who have said that you know paul isn't isn't part of the actual new creation he's not really a christian he's he's split off and uh he wasn't he's not actually an apostle so that's why he says you know i'm not by man it's by god that's how i'm an apostle there now there are some others which which may be more important um i don't need to finish this note i can leave it as it is in fact i like to use tags just say the status of a note so it's uh so this is uh in progress so that makes that gives me a way to find notes which are not finished but i may want to add two more and uh the really cool thing now that i've created this is i can do all sorts of stuff like i can open up the local graph i can see that i've got links to all these letters but also let's just say that i come to read philippians so now i'm in uh philippians i'm reading this i can open up my side panel and i can see that there's a note here in the side and it says the titles that paul uses so i can just go to this note i can see that in philippians paul and timothy servants of jesus christ and i can compare it to the other titles that paul uses so now i've got this like cross reference here comparing the different titles that paul's using and this is useful context whenever i come to read a letter and i can use this as i start to go through a new study and a new note and build up more information there so that's just an example of how this kind of biblical connected thinking works and you can see that this just came about naturally as i started to read in fact uh i had the idea because i started to record this video before and i was looking for an idea i just noticed it i remembered about titles and you know this is not complete it's not finished but that's the whole point of this note-taking system i can improve upon this in the future i can add more notes you know perhaps when i start doing uh letter specific notes when i create a note about the letter to galatians i want to include the context i can link back to this one and highlight you know this is the title that he's using and this is why it's significant and it's different from the other ones and i can come back here and see this and that's that's kind of the idea of how this goes um that we can build up and continue from that so i hope you found this interesting as an example of how you can take biblical connected notes i'd love to know um i'd love to know what you think love to know if you're using this same sort of system in a future video i'll show you how you can start with a topic specific biblical connected note so subscribe not to miss that one and i hope to see you in the future [Music] goodbye oh, Obsidian Bible Notes Walk-Through: Paul's Titles, Chris J Wilson,
