> ## 📝 Summary
> - **What it is:** A 2026-09-26 r/thingsapp thread with seven comments reacting to a Peter Akkies video about a new Things 3 feature. The feature isn't named in the captured text.
> - **The disagreement:** One side says Things is simple enough that reading Cultured Code's docs once covers everything, and that the video promotes Akkies's paid course. The other side says the video spends most of its runtime explaining the feature and its settings.
> - **One practical tip:** A commenter (gianni1986) fed Cultured Code's public documentation URLs into NotebookLM and generated an overview podcast plus per-feature episodes.
> - **Bottom line for Courtney:** She runs Things 3 as her task system and syncs it with Obsidian. The NotebookLM-from-docs tip is the reusable part.
> ## 📖 Main content
> - **"Just read the docs" (Ok-Comfortable2546, ¶1; kuzcoduck, ¶2):** Claims one read of Cultured Code's docs teaches "literally anything there is to know," then adds that people don't read anymore. That's an opinion with no supporting data.
> - **Docs-to-audio (gianni1986, ¶3):** A concrete workflow: every public doc URL from culturedcode.com into a NotebookLM project, then a general podcast followed by a feature-by-feature mini series.
> - **Advertising charge (vyega, ¶4) and rebuttal (Flashy-Bandicoot889, ¶5):** The rebuttal estimates "95%" of the video is feature explanation. That figure is the commenter's impression, not a measurement.
> - **Customer view (mat_rhein, ¶6):** Owns Akkies's courses and says the areas-and-projects setup is something each user tailors, which is the argument for courses over docs: docs explain features, not structure.
> ## 🗒️ Notes
> - ¶1: Things is "made to be easy to understand"; docs read once suffice.
> - ¶3: NotebookLM project built from all Cultured Code doc URLs.
> > [!quote] ¶3
> > Then asked to generate a podcast starting by a global one then mini series focusing on feature by feature.
> - ¶6: Setup of areas and projects gets tailored per person.
> ## 📚 References
> - [r/thingsapp](https://www.reddit.com/r/thingsapp/). The captured markup links only to the subreddit and commenter profiles; the Akkies video itself isn't linked in the text Reader kept.
> - [Things support documentation](https://culturedcode.com/things/support/), the docs the thread refers to.
> ## 💡 Implications
> - **For Courtney's Things setup:** The docs-to-NotebookLM pattern works for any tool with public docs, and she already has a NotebookLM skill wired up.
> - **For DevRel:** The thread reproduces the docs-versus-tutorials argument. Docs answer "what does this setting do"; tutorials and courses sell a structure. Both audiences exist in one thread.
> ## 🎯 Conclusion
> A seven-comment thread. Keep the NotebookLM-from-docs workflow and the docs-explain-features, courses-sell-structure split; skip the rest.

Cool guy but the problem with videos about Things is that the app is made to be easy to understand. If you read through the docs from Cultured Code ONCE you will know literally anything there is to know about the app.

I don't think people read anything nowadays.

Then you should listen 🎧
I’ve created a NotebookLM project to handle all “Things” things: 1st thing first I’ve provided all open docs url available through CulturedCode web site. Then asked to generate a podcast starting by a global one then mini series focusing on feature by feature.

That's basically an advertisement for his little Things 3 course. 🤷🏻♂️

Rather unfair summary. 95% of the video he shares an easy to grasp fully detailed explanation of the new feature with examples and all the settings that are involved. If that is what you're getting out of it, you have no interest in Things but complaint.

I like Peter’s videos. Bought his courses too. The setup behind the scenes with specific areas and projects is something everyone will end up tailoring for themselves., Peter Akkies, Ok-Comfortable2546, 01m3ksv7zhstrxndsb706a2hh6.
