Francesco provides a well-structured framework for selecting note-taking applications based on four distinct categories: connected, traditional, markdown, and modern. The key takeaway is that Obsidian leads the connected category as the future of note-taking with free bi-directional linking, while established tools like Evernote continue serving traditional needs effectively. Users should choose based on their specific workflow requirements rather than following trends, with the recognition that connected note-taking represents an emerging paradigm worth considering for long-term knowledge management.

[Music]hello everyone welcome back to anothervideo it's francesco here in today'svideo we're going to dive intotop note-taking applications now we dida video on this more recentlyabout i think it was a top 10 or 12notedapplications so you can check that oneout in the video below these are morefor my own personal recommendations forpeople who are considering note takingor they are looking at a note taker thatthey can use for an extended period oftime these are some of the opinions i've
broken it down to fourcategories connected traditionalmarkdown and modernto help you sort of pick which one mightbe most suitable for you and i've pickedthree sort of main runners and one sortof winnerso hopefully they can give you somesolutions there anyway guys before webeginour sponsor today is click up here's alittle bit more about themso this month's sponsor on keepproductive is clickup and if you haven't heard of click upalready it's a powerful productivityplatformdesigned to be the one place for all
your worknow it's great to have them back on as asponsor to keep productiveand click up has over 200 000 teamsusing them to getorganized and how no everything fromto-do lists to resource management nowwith the ability to change viewsclick up offers a flexible way for teamsto design their ownworkspaces to get things done and with ahugehost of integrations they can connectthe tools they're already usingmost recently they've added the abilityto email externally inside of click up
without leaving the workspace now clickup are offering an exciting discount offtheir business and enterprise plansyou can find out a little bit more belowand thank you guys again for coming onand do check them out in the descriptionbelow anyway guys thank you very muchtalk soon okay so let's start these areall great for personal note-taking sowhilst there are some sharing abilitiesin them it's not really designed forteams perse so the first category we'll go for isthe best connected and what i mean bybest connected
is ones that have bi-directional linkinginside of them um the main reasoni want to bring this up because it's avery popular trend at the moment wellnot just a trend it probablyis the way that note-taking applicationsgonna head in the future this whole sortof brainideology that we're going to have asystem that connects up our notes andkeeps usorganized and helps us to produce bettersort of like brain like synapses betweendifferent notesis a cool but also very very usefulconceptso i have three that i want to point
towards you the firsttypical recommendation i give for peoplewho are looking at theseis obsidian and the main reason behindthat is because one it's a freeapplication you can use it offline onyour macwindows and linux devices for desktopthey are coming out withmobile and it's it's free to use and toget started and i believe that's goingto continue forever because they've gota downloadable version of itum the other thing i like about it isthe fact that it's so available indifferent devicesand that is pretty decent to have themhave that set up
already the second one is rome researchwhich againis a very popular one in the communityit has some great abilities and somereally awesome note philosophies behindit so i think if you're someone thatis uh really keen on the whole notelinking philosophies then bothobsidian and rome are great options foryou it's it's a little bit pricier at 15per month but i put it in a close secondplace because if people are willing tospend money then people do like thesupportand the you know the quality of lifeinside of room research tends to be alot better and they tend to upgrade it
umon a pretty routine basis so the thirdone is actually something that i typi'm recommending more often because itcomes from an application that's been ina productivity space for a little bit oftime and that's hypernotes that comesfrom developerzenkit who's been creating projectmanager for several years now but thereason i sort of point people towards itis because it's actually a good way ofgetting people started withthe whole uh sort of connected notesphilosophy but if you're not sort ofwilling to jump into something likeobsidian or rome then this might be abit of abetter warming start for you um and
maybe evenallow you to stay there for much moretime so moving on iam gonna sort of call this category besttraditional sobest traditional i'd say is ones thatuse a more of a traditional note-takingsetup allowing you to save documents butallowing you totake notes um with some of the morebasic and flexible abilities but maybenot asadvanced as say databases and thingslike that so i've got three options herethe first i would say is evernotejust because evernote seems to be theall-rounder it was someone
something i typically recommend to a lotof people who are stuck with note-takingapplications becauseit just does most of the jobs being ableto email stuff in being able to savepdfs and being able tosearch using handwriting is all veryuseful for the general user the secondand probably close second option isonenote this is microsoft's optionand comes with a great amount of drawingabilities especially if you have amicrosoft device or an ipad as wellnow i would say that onenote is reallyclose to evernote and it's more ofpreferencethan um an experience and of course you
know thatyou obviously can get evernote in thefree plan but there are some limitationsto that whereas with onenote they've gotmore packinga punch inside of that plan so the thirdrecommendation is nimbus no and this isactually very close to the design ofevernote and it has a bunch of featuresthat are really attractive now in thepremium i would say that thisapplicationrivals the likes of evernote introducingsome prettynice features i really like some of thealthough not very attractive lookingum some of the extensions they use to be
able to clip and record media and alsosome of the web clippers replicate whatyou can do inside of evernote and iwould find the application a lot fasterto use actuallyjust ever so slightly faster with lessbugs at the moment at leastuh from evernote's front so i would sayin that top solar solutions it'severnoteonenote and nimbus note so when it comesto markdown applicationsi've called a category best markdown sothe first one on my list thereis bear notes barenotes is a reallyattractive ios and mac application
comes with a pretty nice pro plan aswell for the year 14.99 howeverif you don't even want to use the proyou can still use the applicationyou just won't be able to sync betweendevices and get access to certainfeatures however it does do a prettygood experience ofyou know getting all that you need doneand it's beautiful markdown it's verysecure as well you can encryptit using touch id and that's something alot of people like then it also looksreally attractiveand allows you to do a range ofdifferent things when it comes toexportingand also with markdown itself my second
option or recommendation would bestandard notes this is more of asecurity focused applications usesaes265 security which helps secure allof your notesencrypts them and for a lot of peoplethis is something that they really likethey've also got a five-year plan andit's an application that doesn't reallyhave much in the free however if you doupgrade you've gottons of things called plugins where youcan add themes and different layouts andthat really takes your standard accounta lot furtherand my final recommendation to you guys
is agenda notes i think this is agorgeous applicationand it does weave between calendar andnote taking so you can planyour calendar around your notes and yournotes around your calendar to helporganize this could be good for somebodywho takes meeting notes or who is moredate associatedwith their productivity finally we havea category called bestmodern and main reason i'm sort oftalking about this one is just becausei would say we're transitioning into apoint where modern notetakerspotentially might be overtakingtraditional note takers we're just not
there yet for the mass marketso my sort of top three recommendationsare notioncraft and workflowy so notion as we allknowcreates a stunning experience a veryclean minimal applicationallows you to take notes and using arange of different methodologies i lovehow you can use database templatesinside the notion to createfor example a journal instantaneously orcreate a meeting notes set up um but itreally does save you huge amounts oftimeespecially inside of you know using theapplication on a daily basis the next up
is craftthis is slowly growing as anotion rival it is a personal wiki i'dsay personal wiki docs note-takerapplication but it'sreally really fast on ios and mac andthey've only just recently released abeta of their web version so it's areally interesting applicationand you can do bi-directional linkinginside of it so it does give you anoption there it doesn't have some of theadvanced abilities like databaseshowever it is a really nice optionfinally workflowy also dynalist is agood option tooboth of these are great for outliners
it's more of an outliner application youwon't be able to do some of the moreadvanced stuff then you wouldn't decideof notion in this application however iknow a lot of people like that cleansimple look just being able to createsimple bullets and be able to nestnotes below them so for some people theconcept of dynalistand workflowy is a really good optionfor them there's also a great video thatwe did here on keep productive withherb cordille who i met at an event whoactually came on to dive into how heuses dynalist it's an awesome videoand i really like how he organizes hisproductivity methodology around an
outliner so i'd recommend checking thatvideo out anyway guys thank you so muchfor stopping by today make sure to checkout clickup and all of the recommendations belowhopefully today's video was useful ifyou're looking for a note-takingapplication right now anyway guys a bigthank yousee you later guys thank you very much[Music]
