They Did What to SQL?

You know what? I've realized something.I've realized that the job market hasgotten so bad that people's pet projectshave now hit a brand new limit ofabsurdity. Okay, I was not prepared forthis. I'm not prepared for what I amlooking at, but here we are. And whatare we looking at? We are looking atTailwindSQL.
Have you ever thought that the onlything missing in your life is even moreclasses in HTML? Well, guess what? I gotan open-source project just for you. This not only allows you to enjoyTailwind as styling, but you also getclasses where you can make databasequeries straight to the back end.
Because honestly, if there is one thingthe world needs, it is more user controlover the database queries that areexecuted on the back end. Becausefundamentally, one of the biggestproblems we're having right now is allthis security on the back end wherepeople are having bad permissions andall this. Whereas this, this is justgoing to allow the client.
Okay, last time I checked, there's not a bunch ofclient vulnerabilities. It's always onthe server.
The database queries to the client, Idon't even think we're going to have anymore security vulnerabilities. Like, this is going to be the end of the end.So, I am personally pretty excited aboutthis product, just seeing it right away. So, here we go. What are some of thefeatures? We got write SQL queriesusing familiar class names. Exactly.See, one thing that I also have alwayshated about SQL is it's super confusing.
Is it like select star? LikeI got to remember column names? Likewhat's going on here? That's waytoo much. Very, very confusing. This, on the other hand, is just like, hey, give me the table name, and then Ican just do some quick operations righton top of it. Like just order by, boom.Easy. That's way easier than SQL.Can we agree? Way easier than SQL. Itworks with React server components. Andobviously that's really good becauseReact server components have been knownto be one of the most trusted andreliable sources for preventing any sortof security issues on your backend whilealso having the ultimate user experienceslash developer experience. It's the bestlibrary ever created.
It just automatically integrates withit; it's probably the best. Can we justbe real? It's probably the best.SQLiteCinema. Okay, SQLite is the best.Zero runtime queries are parsedand executed at build render time.Wait, I am actually supercurious about how they actually...I gotta break. We're breaking the fourthwall here for a second. How does oneexecute queries at build time? Like whatkind of data is coming down at buildthat you would want at build time?
Wouldn't you always want it at runtime?Okay, this part confuses me a littlebit. The fact that they say zeroruntime...Dude, there's zero runtime except forthe runtime part. Okay, so this is alittle bit confusing. Not going to lieto you. A little confusing. I amstruggling a little bit to understandthis, but I'm sure, I'm positive this isgood. So, let's see this. Look at howmuch nicer the syntax is. Honestly, lookat this. You do the DB, you do thetable, you do the column where fieldvalue, limit, order by, ascending. Dude, that looks good. Okay, that looks wayIt's easier than SQL. Sequel systems are hard, honestly. And the fact that thisis only for 18-year-olds and older ispretty understandable. We can't givethis kind of power to those 17 and under.
I don't think those 17 and under shouldbe on social media, let alone do Ithink they should be using something like this. It's fundamentally a bad idea, andyou know I'm right on this one. Okay. So18 or older is a good choice. I really loveit. Obviously, the installation processlooks pretty easy. I'm very curious why Ineed to put my seed in a database. Buthey, I'm willing to try.
Let's check out what his websitelooks like. I don't know why hiswebsite doesn't work. You know, it'sprobably just an accident that hiswebsite doesn't work, but I'm sure hiswebsite's really good. Obviously, I'mvery happy that he gave his database orhis website up for us. Honestly,it's probably the fact that I'm coveringit live that's just taking his databasedown right now. So therefore, thewhole site is just not working.Well, nice. Look, this is really good. Iknow a lot of you.
People don't really know what you'redoing when it comes to programming. Thisis really nice. Look at that. He's givenus a nice little breakdown of how toparse through and go through andset up your project correctly. This isreally good. A nice JS, the premier way tobuild clients. Oh, I love this.Absolutely beautiful. This project wasto explore CSS driven database queries.Yeah, honestly, some of the cutting edgeresearch is being done right now. I hearby the React team in CSS based querying ofthe database because honestly, you know, can we all be real for a second? Themost ergonomic and the greatestdeveloper experience has always been
with CSS. And so the fact that wehaven't taken CSS and put it into thedatabase, honestly, it's been kind of amiss. I think engineering really haskind of stopped after they hitSQL during the COBOL days, and we’venever really recovered since COBOL.We’ve never really iterated on SQL tobegin with. And so the fact that we'refinally making some inroads with a realprogramming language, CSS, it honestlymakes me feel good because I'm reallysick of this declarative, non-typesSafe syntax. I mean, think about what wecould drive with CSS-driven stuff, right? It could be pretty powerful.
And then, like, if you really need to godown into the nuts and bolts of it all,you could drop the Tailwind abstractionand go into just raw CSS for SQL. Ithink it would be the best. Honestly, Ithink it would be the best because youget both the high-level abstraction ofTailwind plus the low-level abstractionof CSS. I mean, honestly, I'm not muchof a low-level programmer, so I don’tdo a lot of CSS myself. Honestly,I've never been that good as a low-levelprogrammer. You know, I havebeen thinking about getting into somesystems-level programming though, and doing some raw CSS myself. Justhaven't got there. I just haven't gotthere yet, you know. So, one day we'llbe able to get it. The nameis the Primogen., They Did What to SQL?, YouTube, 01kdnc8jrgraqncj0z318gmbmf.
