These two worlds have gradually drifted apart in recent years, which the author believes is not beneficial for the success of WordPress or businesses. The author, a community enthusiast and businesswoman, will be sharing stories and insights from both worlds in a weekly column, with the hope of bringing them closer together again. - URL: https://poststatus.com/two-worlds-of-wordpress/ WordPress has two faces, two different sides, two different worlds even. At least, that’s what I see when I look at WordPress. You have the community side, with people enthusiastic about open source, contributing to the project, organizing amazing events. On that side, you’ll also find people that are passionate about improving diversity and having an open and safe space in which we can all participate and contribute. On the other side, you’ll have the business community of WordPress. On that other side, you’ll find the people that own (large) companies and want to make money with WordPress. In the past few years, gradually, I feel like these two WordPress worlds have drifted apart. I don’t think that is a good trend. In my opinion, for WordPress to be successful *and* for businesses to be successful, we need those worlds to be integrated. We need those two WordPress worlds to coincide. I am going to start a weekly column here on Post Status. Just giving my views on things happening in the two WordPress worlds. I’ll share stories, experiences, and insights from the two worlds of WordPress. I am both a community fanatic, passionate about open source, diversity and getting people involved in Making WordPress. I am also a business woman. I understand the business side of WordPress as I was the owner and CEO of Yoast and I am an investor in multiple WordPress companies (and currently in the process of creating a new WordPress product myself). And: who knows? Perhaps we’ll be able to get those two worlds of WordPress to drift towards each other again! *This is the first in a series of weekly columns — called Two Worlds — by Marieke van de Rakt, veteran entrepreneur and leader in WP, and partner at Post Status, sharing her perspectives on what she’s seeing in WordPress.*, Two Worlds of WordPress, Marieke van de Rakt, 01hbe7pse56ytgs2acnfqq36va.
