[01:03](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE&t=63) File properties can be toggled on and off in the command palette - When toggled on, all file properties are displayed - The command palette also provides a list of all properties in the vault - Clicking on a property adds it to the search to identify files with the property [01:53](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE&t=113) There is a new feature to add file properties with a hotkey. - There are default properties such as Alias, CSS classes, and tags. - You cannot change the property type when you click on them and the icon. - If there are no properties in a new file, you can add them. [02:48](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE&t=168) You can create aliases for files in Obsidian - Aliases allow you to have alternative names for files - You can switch between aliases using the quick switcher control [03:39](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE&t=219) The Obsidian app allows users to add properties like tags and CSS classes. - Tags can be added as a property and can be autocompleted. - Changing the name of the tags property changes its type and it cannot be put back into a task property. [04:31](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE&t=271) There are two properties being discussed - The first property is a list with autocomplete suggestions - The second property is a text property with autocomplete suggestions [05:21](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE&t=321) The input fields 319.02 to 321.72 allow only numbers to be typed. - There are restrictions on the input fields that prevent the typing of letters. - These restrictions only apply to numbers and not other properties. - The input fields are tagged with aliases or CSS classes that can be customized to any name. - The limitations are actually imposed by the property type and not the name. - There are additional input fields for date and time selection. - The date selection field includes a date picker and a link to the corresponding file. - The link allows direct access to the daily note or journal file. [06:11](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE&t=371) Creating links within properties allows for easier navigation. - The example demonstrates the ability to link between files within properties. - Links can be changed and updated within properties. - Linking within properties does not provide reciprocal backlinks, but still appears in the backlinks panel. - Other improvements and fixes were included in the update. - Summary: Changelog: https://obsidian.md/changelog/ Ways to Support: - My Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/dannyhatcher - My Substack: https://dannyhatcher.substack.com/ My Courses: - Obsidian Onboarding: https://dannyhatcher.com/obsidian-onboarding/ - Obsidian Fundamentals: https://dannyhatcher.com/obsidian-fundamentals-the-complete-for-beginners/ Where to find me: - Obsidian notes: https://publish.obsidian.md/danny-hatcher/Collaboraters/Danny+Hatcher - Twitter: https://twitter.com/DannyHatcher - Contact me: https://dannyhatcher.com/contact/ Tools I use: - Obsidian: https://obsidian.md/ - Zotero: https://www.zotero.org/ - Morgen: https://morgen.so/?ref=dannyhatcher - Tubebuddy: https://www.tubebuddy.com/dannyhatcher - Epidemic sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com/referral/mzyymp/ - Thrive cart: https://dannyhatcher--checkout.thrivecart.com/thrivecart-standard-account/ Timestamps: 0:00 Introduction 0:10 Property settings 2:25 Property types About: Danny Hatcher is a researcher, filmmaker and journalist. He curr... - URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbe1jk98SE&ab_channel=DannyHatcher as of two hours ago obsidian releasedthe version 1.4 Insider build so this isfor Insider users only but they've addedproperties to obsidian at the momentyou'll see something that looks likethis at the top of your file it's oftencalled yaml or front matter maybemetadata and this is what it will looklike but now if I come to the top rightclick on the three dots you can see I'min Source mode if I go to live previewit then shows properties I can click onany of these items and drag the propertyup and down when I left click on the icon I can change the property typewhich I'll go through in a minute I cancut copy paste or remove the property ifI hold shift and then select multipleproperties I can then right click andchange all the properties to a certaintype cut copy paste Etc if I open up asecond file and let's hold shift andselect all of them I can then copy soCtrl C I come over here Ctrl V it thenpastes all of that property informationinto the file it's so nice and if I goto the editor tab you can see there'sactually another button so it says show file properties if I tick this off youcan see all the files have nowdisappeared all the properties anywaythey've disappeared so they don't showinside of the file so I can type thingsand you can type all the way down thefile but it doesn't show the propertiesbut if I take it on I can then show theproperties and if I don't want to togglethem I can toggle them shut or togglethem open so I can see all of them noneof them or not even the drop down but ifI turn the properties off how am I meantto see the properties well they've addedcommands for that going into the commandpalette you can see we've got properties show all properties and this gives you alist of every single property that's inthe vault and it acts very similar tothe tags pane so you can see the tagspen we've got the two tags in hereinside of here it shows all of theproperties and when you click on theproperty it then adds that into thesearch so you can know which files gotwhich this one's in the example file andthen the show properties file is thisone that I've got down here so this isall of the properties this is just thefile that I have active so that is whenI click on this one this is the activefile these are the properties in thatfile if I click on the second file theseare the properties in this file yeahthere are some visual things but it's just been released so I'll let them offwith that one but that's not all we alsohave an add file property hotkey nowthis is the default one control colonsthat's my template one so I'll probablychange it and then clear file propertiesbut if I come into the file and pushthat hotkey you can see it's now lettingme edit or add a new property I couldjust push the button add in here or pushthe button add over here it's entirelyup to me but now let's have a quick lookat the properties so Alias is a defaultproperty CSS classes is another defaultproperty and tags is also a default property so when you click on them andyou click on the icon you can't actuallychange the property type so if I createa new file you can see there's noproperties in here at the moment if Ipush that hotkey it lets me add aproperty push Alias now it has an aliasproperty but I can't change it to anyother type because it's only letting meput an alias in and for those unfamiliarwith aliases if I have an alias in herefor app you can see it's been enteredand this is Obsidian app I can look forobsidian app or app so when I go to thequick switcher control o and type in app you can see there's the Alias app andthere's the file obsidian app and thenthat's the actual file name so that'swhat an alias is and then if I come inhere it gives me a drop down of theother alias in the other files so thisactually collects all of the differententries for aliases which can be usefulif you've got different adcs across yourVault but let's say I want there to bean obsidian Alias I need to push enterso you can see at the moment it's notactually entered in as an option it'sjust still in text so push enter now Ihave app and obsidian as different aliases for this one file so quickswitcher type obsidian there's theobsidian Alias for the obsidian app fileand then if I type in app there's theapp areas for the obsidian app filelet's add another property we're goingto add the tags property and it's comeup with the two tags I already havewhich are the two tags inside of here soagain Auto completing which is very niceif I click on the icon you see I can'tactually change the type of the propertyif you try and change the name of thetags property you can see what it's doneis it's changed the property type andnow because it's a list for property I can't actually put it back into a taskproperty yet I'm imagining there's goingto be another way to do this but that'scurrently what's happening so if we goadd property add tags again there wehave the tags property back and there'sthe awesome tag that we have in I'mgoing to click on things drag that downadd property and then the other propertythat is specific is CSS classes now thisis only useful if you actually use CSSclasses I do use them in my librarysetup which I'll leave a link to thevideo in the top right but CSS classesyou can then add text in so I use cardsand that would be the information putinside of this property this property type is a list so I'll type in the listand that is shown by the dashes with thedots next to it and you can see it'salready brought up the other option soauto complete suggestions from the otherlist items we have inside of the examplefile so first thing second thing thirdthing it's actually showing up here so Ican add that in there let's add anotherproperty this time we're going to gowith text and again we've got theautocomplete that's the other text thatI brought in from the other file butlet's just remove some things in therenow we've got I can write whatever I I'm going to go to the second file let's adda text property and I click in here wethen have the two Auto suggestcompletions the checkbox is what youwould expect instead of it saying trueor false it's actually a tick box thatyou can tick like complete or not whichis very nice it looks a bit big at themoment but like I say we'll let thedevelopers off for that because this hasliterally just been released then wehave a number and the number doesexactly what you would expect it doesn'tlet you type in any letters only letsyou type in numbers and just for clarityany of these properties that are notspecifically those three that Imentioned they tagged the aliases or the CSS classes you can add whatever name tothe property type you want to it's justthe type that's actually limiting whatcan go into the value then the last twois the date and time and if we have alook in this original file we've got adate that's been added so if I click onthe date icon you then have a dateselector you can go to today and thenclear it or in the time we've got theexact same but we've got a Time pickeron the side and something the daily noteor Journal people will like is to seethe date property there's a link on theside so if you push on the link it opensthe file that has the the actual data it so you can go directly to the Daily noteso you don't need a link inside of theproperty because the date file just doesthat for you or the date property sorrydoes that for you and one change withproperties it's actually something youcouldn't do previously is you canactually have a link inside ofproperties so this goes to the sameplace it goes to the example file butwhen I come into here you can see I canchange the link so I'm going to link itto the second file and now I have a linkto the second file I can push on it andit takes me to the file if I say linklet's go back to the example file it'slinked inside of the properties which isreally nice now if I add a link inside of the obsidian app to the example fileand go back to the example file you cansee it doesn't go backwards and forwardsso it doesn't give you the the backlinksor reciprocal backlinks are youdirectional but it's still going toappear inside of the backlinks panel soall of the linking is there as you wouldexpect now there were other improvementsand things that were fixed inside ofthis update as well I'll leave a link inthe description for you to find out morebut I feel like the properties is thebig thing here, UPDATE: Properties in Obsidian,
