So, lately I've been stepping back a little bit in the WordPress experience, trying to understand where could we go, like what ideas can we push on and just kind of exploring a lot. So, I'm taking some creative inspiration from a lot of different sources and kind of putting together some ideas of how WordPress could work. I'm calling this series WordPress explorations, and this is the second of that series. So, today I'm diving into what I'm calling the WordPress application menu. The idea is simple. Like what if there was one place to orient yourself? A single application menu, not unlike what we see in many different creative applications. I'm thinking a permanent anchor where everything lives, always visible, always predictable. If a control isn't relevant, it's not hidden. It's disabled. Over time, you build muscle memory because the structure stays consistent throughout all the navigation here. So in this initial push, I have a control to open the command pallet and then a link to go back to the dashboard directly. At least for now, while we have both, and I'm also including controls to navigate throughout the different primary editing areas. That's surfaces, templates, patterns, and media. And below that, controls for most anything. So unlocking blocks, creating patterns, swapping between the code, visual, and text editors. A little side note, the text editor is a view where you have your content, but you don't have the templates surrounding it. That's just what I'm calling it for now. So, you can turn on different UI settings like block outlines, breadcrumbs, even accessibility settings like text only buttons, and even a potential future high contrast mode. So, why could this work? Because you always know where things live. WordPress becomes less like something you have to learn every single day and more like something that is supporting you in your publishing goals. So, that's a little exploration on the application menu idea I have for WordPress. Let me know what you think. Thanks., YouTube Video 95sZ6o-aRMg, YouTube, 01kagtd43ay471d25ty12j9eef.
