DevRel in 2026. Let's talk about it

DevRel in 2026. Let's talk about it.
Code is cheap. "Oh this blog post? claude wrote it." We need to hire more engineers / we don't need engineers we can just claude code.
If you thought DevRel was hard before... it's only getting more interesting. ๐งต

Written content pre-AI: devs googled "how do I protect against npm malware" and landed on my articles. That was the game.
Post-AI: what's the point? LLMs trained on all of it, and can search + synthesize in real time. Dedicated content-for-SEO is a losing battle.
---
3/
But value isn't gone โ it's shifting.
Case in point: malware research that used to take me days now takes minutes with a coding agent setup doing the timeline, IoCs, and payload analysis. I review, then publish. That's the new leverage.

3 themes I'm seeing take over DevRel:
DevRel Engineering
X is dead, long live X
Product-centric advocacy
---
5/
DevRel Engineering โ "code is cheap" doesn't mean code doesn't matter. It means it's democratized. Spin up a coding agent, ship a full prototype in hours.
Question is: to what end? Back to first principles:
---
6/
First principles โ DevRel = building relationships w/ devs. Where do they actually want to be reached now?
Maybe your audience isn't googling anymore โ they're hunting for a Skill to hand their agent. That means: build Agent Skills, publish to skills sh registry.

Inside DevRel Engineering:
Growth Engineering (we built Snyk Advisor pre-ChatGPT โ became a top-3 traffic source)
Experimentation โ "stop fast, start fast." Ship, measure, kill or double down.
Market validation โ DevRel lives in the ecosystem noise
---
8/
X is dead, long live X โ everything happens here first. If you're not on X you're not just late, you're operating 6 months behind.
Forget saving launches for some big quarterly moment. Momentum is everything. Ship it, post it, now.
---
9/
Product-centric advocacy โ the controversial one.
I think we've gotten too shy about the product. Too abstract, too "market education," not enough "here's exactly how we solve your problem."
---
10/
Real example: talked MCP security to 300 devs in Haifa. Barely mentioned Snyk till the last slide. Q&A = "wait, can Snyk actually scan MCP servers?"

I was so busy avoiding the sales-pitch vibe that I left value on the table. A little product, shown honestly, isn't betrayal โ it's the answer they came for. Bottom line: lean into the product.

It's not about doing a pitch - just don't be embarrassed to show how you actually solve the problem you just spent 40 min talking about. Everything's shifting. So ask yourself: what are you doing out of pure inertia? What should you stop doing?
