So, first things
[00:25] first, if you are a company that has
[00:28] company, organization, school,
[00:30] university, whatever, and you've been
[00:32] using tools that are like based in
[00:34] Moodle or Bridge, Learn Upon, Sum total,
[00:37] one of those, and you have all the SCORM
[00:40] content, and you're like, "Okay, we're
[00:43] going broke. We can't keep paying a per
[00:45] user license fee, excessive hosting
[00:48] fees, uh, maintenance fees for things
[00:50] that aren't being maintained. It just at
[00:53] some point it doesn't make sense. And so
[00:55] you're thinking, okay, we made this
[00:57] decision 15, 20 years ago, but we need
[01:00] now to take a look at moving this
[01:02] decision forward. What does a forward
[01:06] solution look like to run your SCM
[01:09] content? Now, there's a lot of people in
[01:11] the WordPress space that think that
[01:13] maybe you should just remake that
[01:14] content, that you shouldn't depend on
[01:16] the SCM.
[01:17] But as a former corporate business
[01:19] trainer, I know that's not a reasonable
[01:21] ask because I know that you've made that
[01:23] investment or somebody's made that
[01:24] investment and you don't want to be the
[01:26] one that pushes the delete button that
[01:29] makes, you know, possibly millions of
[01:30] dollars worth of work and content go
[01:32] down the drain. So, you want to have a
[01:34] way to reuse that SCM content even on a
[01:37] modern platform. And so, I want to go
[01:40] through a little bit of what we're going
[01:42] to discuss or what you're going to see
[01:44] in this blog post. First thing is save
[01:47] your money and reduce your tech
[01:49] headaches. Um, if you're not already
[01:51] aware, WordPress does have learning
[01:55] management systems available in its
[01:56] plug-in library. There's a couple that
[01:58] are very, very popular. I'm a big fan of
[02:01] Lifter LMS personally. Uh, I also have
[02:03] clients that use Learn Dash. Uh, there's
[02:06] also like Tutor LMS and a couple of
[02:08] other ones out there that are that are
[02:10] well known. Um, for the purpose of this
[02:12] post, I'm going to focus on Lifter LMS.
[02:14] It is my personal favorite. It does uh
[02:17] membership, student management, learning
[02:19] content membership. It does everything
[02:21] all in one. And it has a native payment
[02:23] gateway that allows me to manage uh
[02:27] sales. If you're selling courses, it
[02:29] allows me to manage the the sales and
[02:31] the memberships and the access plans all
[02:33] in one platform instead of having to
[02:36] stitch things together in a WordPress
[02:39] space. So, if you're going from a a SAS
[02:41] or a custom website platform, you know,
[02:44] to WordPress, I think this is the
[02:47] easiest way to do it because you're not
[02:50] expected to be super technical and know
[02:51] how to stitch all these different tools
[02:52] together, integrate them, and make them
[02:54] work. Um, in reality, you're going to
[02:57] use Lifter LMS with an additional tool
[03:00] called Grassblade.
[03:02] Grassblade is what allows your SCORM
[03:05] content to play in Lifter LMS. And so
[03:08] you're gonna use Lifter, you're going to
[03:10] use Grassblade, but then something
[03:13] really cool is going to happen and
[03:14] you're going to realize that you've got
[03:17] flexibility now. Now with with
[03:19] WordPress, you've got ownership of the
[03:21] platform. It's open sourced. So you have
[03:23] ownership of the platform. You have
[03:25] ownership of all your user content.
[03:27] You're not paying a per student user
[03:30] license to use the platform because
[03:32] you've self-hosted it and it's yours.
[03:34] Um, but you also get flexibility and
[03:36] customization uh that you probably just
[03:38] did not have with whatever your provider
[03:41] was before. You want to change the
[03:42] homepage, change the homepage. You want
[03:44] to change the look of your course page,
[03:46] change the look of your course page. You
[03:48] have the ability now to style and design
[03:52] your learning environment so that it
[03:54] better supports your brand. A lot of
[03:56] corporate training is like a subdomain
[03:59] or some kind of link that's connected to
[04:03] the sales website or to the
[04:05] organization's website. So the
[04:06] organization's website or sales website
[04:09] has a branded look that fits the company
[04:11] and the company's message really well.
[04:13] And then when students come in and click
[04:15] for the learning, it opens up in this
[04:18] weird
[04:19] sterile like a little light box thing
[04:21] pops up with the learning content.
[04:23] everything else is just kind of eh,
[04:25] right? Uh we think of that, you know,
[04:28] old corporate trainer types, we're like,
[04:29] "Yeah, we're cutting edge, right on top
[04:30] of this, you know, because it's SCORM."
[04:34] But in reality, you can take that same
[04:36] SCM content and you can have it come up
[04:39] in a whole tab. You could have it come
[04:41] up as the light box. you can embed it
[04:42] into the page and the surrounding page
[04:46] can be styled and customized to match
[04:49] the rest of your sales material,
[04:51] organizations material, things like
[04:53] that. So, really big for customization
[04:56] and uh flexibility on that. Um the user
[04:59] experience for people in WordPress is
[05:01] really simple. It's going to be like
[05:03] register, start the course, take the
[05:05] course, complete the course, get a
[05:07] certificate. um really easy menus are
[05:10] easy to navigate. You again you have
[05:13] flexibility in setting up kind of your
[05:15] user experience and it goes really
[05:17] really well. Now when you're using
[05:19] Lifter LMS
[05:21] your course management is greatly
[05:24] simplified because you're going to have
[05:26] a menu item in the admin panel. It's
[05:28] going to say courses similar to what you
[05:30] may have experienced with your Moodle
[05:31] example. But when you go in there you
[05:33] can edit the courses in the course
[05:35] builder. If it's score material, you can
[05:36] upload, you know, your latest updated
[05:38] score material that you can the the
[05:42] control that you have over your content.
[05:45] You can add drips to your content. You
[05:47] can add prerequisites, different access
[05:49] rules. You have total control over
[05:52] managing your courses. And then as your
[05:55] students complete these courses, even if
[05:57] it's SCORM content, you know, with
[05:59] GrassBlade and Grassblade LRS connected,
[06:02] you're going to be able to sync all of
[06:03] that reporting to the Lifter LMS
[06:05] reporting. And so you're going to be
[06:07] able to pull full reports right out of
[06:10] the back end of your website. You can
[06:12] download them as CSV files. You can
[06:14] provide them to other people in the
[06:15] office. Uh it works really, really,
[06:17] really well. um setting up if you're
[06:21] someone that sells courses and if you're
[06:23] selling SCORM content using the Lifter
[06:26] native payment gateway to control those
[06:28] access plans super simple connect the
[06:30] Stripe account
[06:33] add the access plan to sell it for
[06:34] whatever you want to sell it for and
[06:36] collect your money in these access plans
[06:39] you can also say you know you have
[06:40] access for 10 days 7 days one year
[06:43] access for a lifetime access for a year
[06:45] whatever you want to do and It's also
[06:48] equipped right out of the box to to
[06:51] support subscriptions. So if you want to
[06:53] say, "Hey, join and it's 50 bucks a
[06:56] month, it's $100 a year, whatever,"
[06:59] it'll automatically bill and keep that
[07:01] recurring income going until your
[07:03] student uh elects to get out of it. Now,
[07:07] beyond all that, if you're coming from a
[07:09] custom uh Moodle application somewhere
[07:12] and you're used to kind of that Moodle
[07:15] community, for instance, I know that
[07:17] Moodle just had a thing in in Europe and
[07:18] something like 700 people went to that.
[07:21] Um, that's great. Okay. But once you
[07:24] join WordPress and you become part of
[07:26] the WordPress community, you have things
[07:28] like Word Camp Europe, Word Camp US,
[07:31] Word Camp Asia, uh WordPress meetups all
[07:35] over the place. In fact, I host the
[07:37] WordPress meetup for Hutchinson, Kansas.
[07:39] Um, they are everywhere. And so, the
[07:42] community and the level of support that
[07:44] is available to you if you go down this
[07:47] route, unbelievable. Uh, last thing
[07:50] before I lose my mind and close out this
[07:53] video is
[07:56] what if you don't want to do it
[07:57] yourself? If you're a university, an
[07:59] organization, uh a larger corporation,
[08:02] and you've been paying a vendor for your
[08:04] custom Moodle application, and and so
[08:07] you're used to having that bill, you've
[08:09] got budget, but you want something
[08:10] that's more modern, you want a better
[08:12] user interface for your people, you want
[08:14] your course material to maybe show up in
[08:16] a full tab instead of a little tiny box.
[08:18] Um, if that's what you want, but you
[08:20] want someone else to manage that for
[08:22] you, that's exactly what Mรฑana is here
[08:24] to do. So get in touch with us, man. We
[08:28] can give you consulting on swapping over
[08:30] to the WordPress environment. Uh we
[08:32] offer consulting, we offer training, uh
[08:35] we offer uh teaching, right? So we're
[08:37] I'm totally cool to to come in and and
[08:39] offer, you know, training to your team
[08:41] if that's something we need to do. Uh
[08:43] and not only that, we're willing as a
[08:45] full service agency to take the job on.
[08:48] And when we take the job on, what we
[08:50] mean is you would say this is our
[08:53] platform, but we'd rather be on Lifter
[08:55] LMS in the WordPress environment. And my
[08:58] organization goes in, does a needs
[09:00] assessment, takes a look at how much
[09:02] content you have, what's involved in a
[09:05] migration process, and then moving that
[09:08] content over to WordPress and
[09:09] establishing that new learning site. And
[09:12] we do that all in a development URL.
[09:15] Right? So, this site's still alive and
[09:17] you're still doing business and
[09:18] everything's great and we're building
[09:20] this over here and we're getting this
[09:21] ready for you. And then we migrate your
[09:24] users over, okay? And then flip the
[09:27] switch so that you can announce to your
[09:30] people that you've got a a brand new
[09:32] shiny speedy platform coming to them.
[09:34] Um, that should be more enjoyable for
[09:36] the users to use and more economically
[09:38] feasible for you. So, uh, that's that.
[09:42] Hope you enjoy the post. I encourage you
[09:44] to actually read the post. There's more
[09:47] in the textual content than what I just
[09:49] said here, but I really wanted to cover
[09:52] both bases and get things going.
