## ๐ฃ๏ธ Paraphrase
- The 10th anniversary InnerSource Summit successfully operated as a 24-hour global event because the community has grown too large and geographically diverse for a single location gathering
- Corporate sponsors and individual volunteers made the event possible, with the InnerSource Commons operating as a lean nonprofit that depends on community support
- The summit achieved significant reach and impact, with plans to continue community engagement through ongoing virtual events and digital collaboration spaces
## ๐ฐ Newsletter
The 10th anniversary InnerSource Summit wrapped up with impressive results - over 300 attendees participating in a unique 24-hour global format spanning New York, Germany, and Japan. This innovative approach solved a great problem: the InnerSource community has grown so large and diverse that no single location could accommodate everyone!
The summit showcased the power of community collaboration, running entirely on volunteer effort and corporate sponsorship. Key takeaway: "All of us are better than any of us" - a principle that applies both within organizations and across the global InnerSource community.
Don't miss the post-summit roundtable in December for newcomers and veterans alike. All session recordings will be published on YouTube, and slide decks will be shared via email and Slack.

### ๐ก๏ธ DARVO Analysis
- Deny: No denial patterns present
- Attack: No attack patterns identified
- Reverse victim/offender: No reversal patterns detected
- Emotional cues and rhetoric: Positive emotional appeals celebrating community and volunteer contributions, appropriate for closing ceremony context
## ๐ฏ Conclusion
The 10th anniversary InnerSource Summit successfully demonstrated how global technical communities can adapt to geographic and logistical constraints through innovative event formats. The 24-hour multi-region approach solved the fundamental challenge of bringing together a worldwide community that had outgrown single-location gatherings.
The emphasis on volunteer contributions and corporate sponsorship balance provides a model for sustainable community-driven events. The core InnerSource principlesโ"a good idea can come from anywhere" and "all of us are better than any of us"โextend beyond organizational boundaries to community building itself.
Next steps include engaging with the post-summit roundtable, accessing published resources, and contributing to ongoing community collaboration through digital channels.

[00:05] Uh so what I've got here is just a few<br>[00:07] uh closing remarks. Uh and then again<br>[00:10] for everyone here in person uh there's a<br>[00:12] reception uh outside uh some like<br>[00:15] drinks, wine, beer, dinner is all out<br>[00:17] there so we can all finish the<br>[00:19] conversation. I know there's several<br>[00:20] people that are here that uh uh that I<br>[00:23] still need to meet and probably amongst<br>[00:24] each other as well. So please stay for<br>[00:26] that. Uh all right so kind of wrapping<br>[00:29] up here our 10 years of inner source uh<br>[00:32] awesomeness and just a few remarks. I<br>[00:34] don't want to take too long here. Uh I'd<br>[00:36] be remiss not to thank again our host uh<br>[00:39] for the summit. Uh when I was here<br>[00:42] someone actually asked me like yeah<br>[00:44] how's this uh how is this organized? You<br>[00:46] know how does it work out that uh you<br>[00:48] know the funds to put this on? And the<br>[00:50] answer is it's the the hosts and and<br>[00:52] sponsors. Uh the inner source commons is<br>[00:54] a a nonprofit pretty lean. This event<br>[00:56] wouldn't be happening without these um I<br>[00:59] want to say these logos behind me, but<br>[01:01] these companies behind me and especially<br>[01:03] a few special people at these<br>[01:05] organizations uh that put in quite a bit<br>[01:07] of work. Uh so thanks and in fact just<br>[01:09] here in the room um so our IBM hosts<br>[01:12] like Wendy and Jenna round of applause<br>[01:14] for them please.<br>[01:18] Now uh we can't see and the folks at<br>[01:21] Mitsubishi Electric are probably asleep<br>[01:23] and SAP as well. Actually, they might<br>[01:26] have woken up again for the next day<br>[01:27] here. Um, but they also help sponsor a<br>[01:29] 24-hour event. Um, uh, GitLab, uh, as<br>[01:33] well. I saw at least one person there.<br>[01:35] Yeah, Connley. Yeah. From from GitLab.<br>[01:37] Yeah. Yeah. Thank you. Uh, Red Hat. Um,<br>[01:40] additional kind of Red Hat and IBM both,<br>[01:42] uh, showing up as sponsors. And then,<br>[01:44] uh, Bera Solutions as well. So, thanks<br>[01:46] to our sponsors. Um, yeah. Yeah. SAP.<br>[01:50] Yeah. For for for Berlin. Yes. Thank<br>[01:52] you.<br>[01:54] Oh.<br>[01:55] Oh. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I've got<br>[01:57] volunteers still coming up, too. Yeah.<br>[01:59] I've got Don't worry, I have a lot of<br>[02:00] people to thank. It might be another at<br>[02:02] the end we can do questions if anyone<br>[02:04] has questions about the people I I<br>[02:06] thanked.<br>[02:08] No, I'm I'm aware I'm standing between<br>[02:09] you and the end of the summit here.<br>[02:12] Um, also uh uh this is part of it too.<br>[02:15] Our general sponsors and partners of the<br>[02:17] Interceource Commons also make events uh<br>[02:20] like this possible. I won't be able to<br>[02:22] read and call out everyone here, but<br>[02:24] thanks also to our general sponsors. Um,<br>[02:28] as a next step, I want to leave us on<br>[02:30] the screen for a little bit here in the<br>[02:31] room online. Please take a picture of<br>[02:34] this QR code. Um, a few of the folks at<br>[02:37] the Interceource Commons uh got<br>[02:38] together. They're going to put on an<br>[02:40] Interceource Commons round table, a bit<br>[02:42] of a postsummit wrapup, a virtual call.<br>[02:45] Uh, this is for newcomers and longtime<br>[02:49] membershike.<br>[02:50] Uh it's a chance if you're new to the<br>[02:52] indource commons uh to learn about<br>[02:54] working groups contra contribution<br>[02:56] opportunities um be a chance to share<br>[02:58] stories and talk about next steps uh to<br>[03:01] make your innource journey meaningful<br>[03:03] and hopefully to join in with others who<br>[03:05] want to do the same. Uh that's really<br>[03:06] the goal of the innersource commons is<br>[03:08] bringing the community together<br>[03:10] worldwide around inner source uh so each<br>[03:12] of us can do and be our best and share<br>[03:14] with one another. So that'll be<br>[03:15] happening there in December. Uh this<br>[03:17] information will go out in the<br>[03:18] postsummit email uh also. Okay. All<br>[03:22] right. Uh I said this already but uh I<br>[03:24] think I'll say it again. Stay for the<br>[03:26] evening reception generously hosted by<br>[03:28] IBM. Yeah. Thank you. Uh thanks to our<br>[03:31] speakers uh today. Uh yeah, Olivia,<br>[03:35] featured guest. Uh thanks for staying<br>[03:37] with us through the day and helping kick<br>[03:38] us off this morning. Thanks to all who<br>[03:40] spoke here in person and online. Uh in<br>[03:43] the end uh this event is about what we<br>[03:46] learned from the speakers who thank you<br>[03:47] for your volunteer time and teaching and<br>[03:50] helping us learn so many great things<br>[03:52] about inner source. Okay. All right.<br>[03:54] This is where someone was calling out to<br>[03:56] me. Thank the people online. There's<br>[03:58] other people who did quite a bit of<br>[03:59] work. Uh I won't be able to go through<br>[04:02] everyone. Uh when we I I'll just say<br>[04:05] this. uh a year ago when uh we were<br>[04:08] talking I think in a a board of<br>[04:10] directors meeting in the inner source<br>[04:11] commons and wondering what should we do<br>[04:13] for uh for the 10-year uh summit and we<br>[04:17] wanted to be special in some way and we<br>[04:19] got the idea well let's get together in<br>[04:21] person because as Michaela said it had<br>[04:23] been five years uh where should we go<br>[04:25] and uh as we kind of asked and surveyed<br>[04:28] people said well I can't travel very far<br>[04:30] um there's cost or you know geopolitical<br>[04:33] things or whatever so I can't travel to<br>[04:35] a certain country. So, we really didn't<br>[04:37] have a spot for our community. And this<br>[04:38] is really interesting because before<br>[04:39] COVID, we kind of had the chance to get<br>[04:41] the whole community together. And we<br>[04:43] realized this isn't going to work this<br>[04:44] time. We're not going to be able to have<br>[04:46] everyone in one place. One, it's<br>[04:47] amazing. It shows how much the worldwide<br>[04:49] community has grown. And as we we<br>[04:51] surveyed, uh the idea came together.<br>[04:54] There were people interested in meeting<br>[04:55] in each location and the idea came<br>[04:57] forward. You know, Inner Source has<br>[04:59] grown over the last five years since we<br>[05:00] met in person to become a worldwide<br>[05:02] community. uh we'll pick one in each uh<br>[05:05] region and have uh a a worldwide 24-hour<br>[05:09] summit to celebrate our global<br>[05:10] community. Uh this thing has been run uh<br>[05:13] on the u uh blood, sweat, and tears of<br>[05:17] volunteers. Uh I actually myself uh<br>[05:20] learned a little bit this last week how<br>[05:22] deep some of that went for some of these<br>[05:24] people. Um I won't call out everyone uh<br>[05:27] but um just a few. Olive has been our<br>[05:30] online uh person. I think she's online.<br>[05:33] Thank you, Olive. Um, I know I know all<br>[05:36] that you've done like from the beginning<br>[05:38] until now. Like gosh, like Michaela's<br>[05:40] making me tear up as well. Okay, I even<br>[05:42] know how this one ends and I'm like<br>[05:44] still tearing up.<br>[05:46] Uh, Germe uh is the lead uh in Germany.<br>[05:50] He's probably asleep right now, but<br>[05:52] hopefully you watch the recording.<br>[05:53] Thanks, Germe. Uh, Jenna here in New<br>[05:55] York. uh and then in uh Yokohama uh<br>[06:00] Tubasa Yuki as well. So many others here<br>[06:03] can't go through everyone uh but just<br>[06:05] know that a lot of people put in a lot<br>[06:07] of time uh for free because they care<br>[06:09] about you and they care about inner<br>[06:11] source and that's a story that even<br>[06:14] though I know how it ends I think it'll<br>[06:15] bring me to tears uh every time because<br>[06:18] I I love the community and what it gives<br>[06:20] to the world.<br>[06:23] All right. Uh so just a recap here. We<br>[06:25] had some stats. Uh so uh we had over the<br>[06:28] 24 hours over 300 attendees, okay?<br>[06:31] Sustained audience about a little over a<br>[06:32] hundred, okay, was what we were looking<br>[06:34] at between each location and then<br>[06:36] online. Uh which is which is is huge.<br>[06:38] I've gone to larger uh conferences, but<br>[06:40] when I get in a room, I'm usually<br>[06:42] talking to 20, 30 or 40 people. Uh so<br>[06:45] each of you who came up and taught uh<br>[06:48] you reached a pretty large audience. uh<br>[06:51] our uh all these talks are going to go<br>[06:53] uh on the YouTube and uh we usually get<br>[06:56] uh quite a large number of views as<br>[06:58] well. So a big big effect at this<br>[07:01] conference. I've had a few people ask<br>[07:03] about speaker slide decks. Will we have<br>[07:05] access to those? I just want to say I'm<br>[07:08] actually not exactly sure. I don't<br>[07:10] remember uh what we're going to do about<br>[07:11] it. Uh but I I think the plan is to<br>[07:14] collect as many of those as we can that<br>[07:15] are being willing to share. Oh, I'm<br>[07:16] getting a thumbs up from Katie. Okay. So<br>[07:18] we'll share those afterwards. that'll go<br>[07:20] out in the post summit email. If you're<br>[07:23] in the inner source common Slack, I'm<br>[07:24] sure that'll be shared in the general<br>[07:25] channel as well. Um, all right. So,<br>[07:29] hopefully this mission of the inner<br>[07:30] source commons, this is on our web page,<br>[07:31] means a little bit more to everyone.<br>[07:33] We're empowering developers and<br>[07:34] organizations to apply open<br>[07:36] collaboration principles in their daily<br>[07:38] work. We're the neutral hub, central<br>[07:40] collaboration space for inter social<br>[07:42] knowledge. One way we do that, I'm off<br>[07:45] the script here, but one way we do that<br>[07:46] is by events like these. And I'm looking<br>[07:49] forward uh to coming together not only<br>[07:52] for more events uh but more chance to<br>[07:54] converse continuously in the inter<br>[07:56] source common slack publishing guides<br>[07:58] tutorials training videos together. Uh<br>[08:01] this is what we want to create together.<br>[08:03] We want you to be a part of it.

**[00:05]** Uh so what I've got here is just a few uh closing remarks. Uh and then again for everyone here in person uh there's a reception uh outside uh some like drinks, wine, beer, dinner is all out there so we can all finish the conversation. I know there's several people that are here that uh uh that I still need to meet and probably amongst each other as well. So please stay for that. Uh all right so kind of wrapping up here our 10 years of inner source uh awesomeness and just a few remarks. I don't want to take too long here. Uh I'd
**[00:36]** be remiss not to thank again our host uh for the summit. Uh when I was here someone actually asked me like yeah how's this uh how is this organized? You know how does it work out that uh you know the funds to put this on? And the answer is it's the the hosts and and sponsors. Uh the inner source commons is a a nonprofit pretty lean. This event wouldn't be happening without these um I want to say these logos behind me, but these companies behind me and especially a few special people at these organizations uh that put in quite a bit
**[01:07]** of work. Uh so thanks and in fact just here in the room um so our IBM hosts like Wendy and Jenna round of applause for them please. Now uh we can't see and the folks at Mitsubishi Electric are probably asleep and SAP as well. Actually, they might have woken up again for the next day here. Um, but they also help sponsor a 24-hour event. Um, uh, GitLab, uh, as well. I saw at least one person there. Yeah, Connley. Yeah. From from GitLab. Yeah. Yeah. Thank you. Uh, Red Hat. Um,
**[01:40]** additional kind of Red Hat and IBM both, uh, showing up as sponsors. And then, uh, Bera Solutions as well. So, thanks to our sponsors. Um, yeah. Yeah. SAP. Yeah. For for for Berlin. Yes. Thank you. Oh. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I've got volunteers still coming up, too. Yeah. I've got Don't worry, I have a lot of people to thank. It might be another at the end we can do questions if anyone has questions about the people I I thanked. [laughter] No, I'm I'm aware I'm standing between you and the end of the summit here.
**[02:12]** Um, also uh uh this is part of it too. Our general sponsors and partners of the Interceource Commons also make events uh like this possible. I won't be able to read and call out everyone here, but thanks also to our general sponsors. Um, as a next step, I want to leave us on the screen for a little bit here in the room online. Please take a picture of this QR code. Um, a few of the folks at the Interceource Commons uh got together. They're going to put on an Interceource Commons round table, a bit of a postsummit wrapup, a virtual call.
**[02:45]** Uh, this is for newcomers and longtime membershike. Uh it's a chance if you're new to the indource commons uh to learn about working groups contra contribution opportunities um be a chance to share stories and talk about next steps uh to make your innource journey meaningful and hopefully to join in with others who want to do the same. Uh that's really the goal of the innersource commons is bringing the community together worldwide around inner source uh so each of us can do and be our best and share with one another. So that'll be
**[03:15]** happening there in December. Uh this information will go out in the postsummit email uh also. Okay. All right. Uh I said this already but uh I think I'll say it again. Stay for the evening reception generously hosted by IBM. Yeah. Thank you. Uh thanks to our speakers uh today. Uh yeah, Olivia, featured guest. Uh thanks for staying with us through the day and helping kick us off this morning. Thanks to all who spoke here in person and online. Uh in the end uh this event is about what we
**[03:46]** learned from the speakers who thank you for your volunteer time and teaching and helping us learn so many great things about inner source. Okay. All right. This is where someone was calling out to me. Thank the people online. There's other people who did quite a bit of work. Uh I won't be able to go through everyone. Uh when we I I'll just say this. uh a year ago when uh we were talking I think in a a board of directors meeting in the inner source commons and wondering what should we do for uh for the 10-year uh summit and we
**[04:17]** wanted to be special in some way and we got the idea well let's get together in person because as Michaela said it had been five years uh where should we go and uh as we kind of asked and surveyed people said well I can't travel very far um there's cost or you know geopolitical things or whatever so I can't travel to a certain country. So, we really didn't have a spot for our community. And this is really interesting because before COVID, we kind of had the chance to get the whole community together. And we realized this isn't going to work this time. We're not going to be able to have everyone in one place. One, it's amazing. It shows how much the worldwide
**[04:49]** community has grown. And as we we surveyed, uh the idea came together. There were people interested in meeting in each location and the idea came forward. You know, Inner Source has grown over the last five years since we met in person to become a worldwide community. uh we'll pick one in each uh region and have uh a a worldwide 24-hour summit to celebrate our global community. Uh this thing has been run uh on the u uh blood, sweat, and tears of volunteers. Uh I actually myself uh
**[05:20]** learned a little bit this last week how deep some of that went for some of these people. Um I won't call out everyone uh but um just a few. Olive has been our online uh person. I think she's online. Thank you, Olive. Um, I know I know all that you've done like from the beginning until now. Like gosh, like Michaela's making me tear up as well. Okay, I even know how this one ends and I'm like still tearing up. [laughter] Uh, Germe uh is the lead uh in Germany.
**[05:50]** He's probably asleep right now, but hopefully you watch the recording. Thanks, Germe. Uh, Jenna here in New York. uh and then in uh Yokohama uh Tubasa Yuki as well. So many others here can't go through everyone uh but just know that a lot of people put in a lot of time uh for free because they care about you and they care about inner source and that's a story that even though I know how it ends I think it'll bring me to tears uh every time because I I love the community and what it gives
**[06:20]** to the world. All right. Uh so just a recap here. We had some stats. Uh so uh we had over the 24 hours over 300 attendees, okay? Sustained audience about a little over a hundred, okay, was what we were looking at between each location and then online. Uh which is which is is huge. I've gone to larger uh conferences, but when I get in a room, I'm usually talking to 20, 30 or 40 people. Uh so each of you who came up and taught uh you reached a pretty large audience. uh
**[06:51]** our uh all these talks are going to go uh on the YouTube and uh we usually get uh quite a large number of views as well. So a big big effect at this conference. I've had a few people ask about speaker slide decks. Will we have access to those? I just want to say I'm actually not exactly sure. I don't remember uh what we're going to do about it. Uh but I I think the plan is to collect as many of those as we can that are being willing to share. Oh, I'm getting a thumbs up from Katie. Okay. So we'll share those afterwards. that'll go out in the post summit email. If you're
**[07:23]** in the inner source common Slack, I'm sure that'll be shared in the general channel as well. Um, all right. So, hopefully this mission of the inner source commons, this is on our web page, means a little bit more to everyone. We're empowering developers and organizations to apply open collaboration principles in their daily work. We're the neutral hub, central collaboration space for inter social knowledge. One way we do that, I'm off the script here, but one way we do that is by events like these. And I'm looking forward uh to coming together not only for more events uh but more chance to
**[07:54]** converse continuously in the inter source common slack publishing guides tutorials training videos together. Uh this is what we want to create together. We want you to be a part of it. Uh so just kind of in closing here a few mantras that I associate with inner source. Uh remember a good idea can come from anywhere. All of us are better than any of us and this is true not only inside each of our organizations but us as a as a global community. Uh inner source is the gift that you give to others at the same time it benefits yourself. Uh let's build inner source
**[08:26]** together. Thanks for a wonderful 10 years a wonderful summit and here's to many more. Thank you.
