By hiring for DevRel positions sooner rather than later, companies can benefit from the increasing value and functionality of these individuals over time. While DevRel may not have an immediate impact on business metrics, it sets companies up better for the future compared to hiring someone solely for the present. Additionally, retaining and taking care of current DevRel and community team members is crucial, as the cost of hiring and training new individuals is substantial. Providing time off, fair compensation, transparency, and necessary resources is essential for the success of these people-facing positions. Transcript: Speaker 1 So that initial idea of like companies that want to have a great DevRel team, you have to start building it sooner rather than later, you can't wait because, and this is what I've experienced With DevRel, there are so many things that a DevRel person can do that you're essentially getting this really valuable, almost Swiss Army knife. And the sooner you bring that on, the more functionality you discover from this person and the more you discover they can do, the more valuable they become over time. It is, it is a long-term play to have a DevRel team. DevRel doesn't move the needle immediately, unless you're hiring for follower count, sure. But generally, it's a long-term play. And I think long-term play sets you up better for the future than just hiring a person for right now. And I think that even speaks to teams that are existing, you know, sorry for jumping in here, but we forget that like, we forget that like there are people that are employed right now. And if we don't take care of them, what's the cost? Like I last heard it was like $7,000 to hire someone, like, or something, it's like stupid amounts of money to hire and train and get someone new up to speed. I would say even more so in these people facing positions because you're building relationships with the community that you're working with. So like, take care, if you do have a DevRel team or a community team, take care of them. That means time off. That means, you know, fair and equitable compensation. That means transparency. That means making sure they're having the resources that they need to be successful. ([Time 0:15:54](https://share.snipd.com/snip/b71f7ec6-48e5-4efc-9aab-c015a62ea49e)) - Note: devrel - Tags: devrel
