## Full Transcript
[00:00] So, I really hadn't planned on doing
[00:02] another WordPress AI news and updates
[00:06] stream,
[00:08] but a whole bunch of stuff just got
[00:11] posted and launched and released and
[00:13] published and shared over the last sort
[00:16] of week and a bit and there's just too
[00:20] much fun stuff to not get into. The
[00:23] first thing that I want to share is that
[00:26] there is a proposal
[00:29] to merge the WordPress AI client into
[00:32] WordPress 7.0. So, this is this is now
[00:35] like older than 6 months. But
[00:37] essentially what this does is this
[00:39] allows you to add AI functionality
[00:41] inside your WordPress site. I have two
[00:44] plugins that I developed.
[00:46] One is an AI client demo which you can
[00:51] find under my GitHub. It's just called
[00:53] WP AI client demo. And what it does is
[00:57] it creates this little AI client demo
[01:00] form.
[01:02] And so
[01:04] essentially what I can do is I can
[01:05] create a post. So let's say a let's say
[01:10] a sonnet about WordPress
[01:14] and then let's say hawk
[01:18] WordPress
[01:21] something like that. And so what that'll
[01:23] do is it'll take the prompt and it'll
[01:25] pass it off to the local model and it'll
[01:28] generate the set and then it'll return
[01:30] it back. If the model supports image
[01:32] generation, it'll generate an image as
[01:34] well, which I don't think Kimmy does,
[01:36] but if you use like Gemini or Anthropic,
[01:38] one of those OpenAI that'll work. So the
[01:42] proposal is
[01:44] to merge
[01:48] the core of the WPAI client without
[01:52] shipping any AI providers
[01:56] or automatically enabling AI calls.
[01:59] The next one is that there's this new AI
[02:03] leaders micro credential that's been
[02:05] launched. Now
[02:08] the program is called AI leaders. It's
[02:11] at the University of Illinois Chicago
[02:14] starts in March. So you learn AI, you
[02:16] learn WordPress, earn a living where
[02:19] earn learning wage jobs. The people who
[02:21] are advising this is Mary Hubbed,
[02:24] executive director from WordPress.
[02:27] Blake, I'm going to try and pronounce
[02:29] Blake's surname correctly. Barrett Chile
[02:32] Booth. So this is the first time that
[02:36] WordPress
[02:38] and
[02:39] universities have started collaborating.
[02:42] WordPress
[02:44] now has a sort of a first version
[02:48] of a set of AI guidelines for WordPress.
[02:51] So the goal here is
[02:53] if you are wanting to contribute to
[02:55] WordPress and you want to use AI to
[02:57] support writing code, writing test,
[03:00] writing documentation, they don't ban AI
[03:02] tooling, but they do set clear
[03:04] expectations for quality, licensing, and
[03:06] transparency. Avoid low signal,
[03:08] unverified AI slop. Reviewers may close
[03:11] or reject work that doesn't meet the
[03:13] bar. I think that is so important to say
[03:15] out loud. reviewers, you are allowed to
[03:19] close or reject work that doesn't meet
[03:20] the bar. So, if you see it and it looks
[03:22] like nonsense, just close it. Just say
[03:24] no. It's okay. Don't feel like you have
[03:26] to spend time reviewing AI slot. Cool.
[03:29] The next thing I want to dive into is
[03:31] that WordPress now has something called
[03:33] agent skills.
[03:35] So, I haven't dived into agent skills as
[03:38] yet. My understanding is that it's a way
[03:40] to provide skills to an agent as the
[03:43] name says and
[03:48] The WordPress project now has an agent
[03:52] skills repository.
[03:56] It basically teaches AI coding
[03:58] assistance how to build WordPress the
[04:00] right way. So our portable bundles and
[04:03] instructions, checklist and scripts that
[04:04] help AI assistants to understand
[04:06] WordPress development patterns, avoid
[04:08] common mistakes and follow best
[04:10] practices. This is version one and
[04:12] skills would improve as the community
[04:14] uses them and contributes fixes. Let's
[04:17] see if having WordPress skills can fix
[04:19] this. If it does, then
[04:24] who knows?
[04:46] test ran successfully. There are no test
[04:48] spells.
[04:52] So that is that.
[04:56] What I would like to do is see how it
[04:58] when it creates a block what it does
[05:00] because in the past I've had issues with
[05:04] block generation not following block
[05:05] generation
[05:07] patterns.
[05:09] Let's go and test AI experiments. So
[05:12] last month I shared that AI experiments
[05:14] plugin had released version one. There's
[05:17] a new thing bunch of things that people
[05:20] have been working on. So there's a type
[05:23] ahead suggestion. This experiment
[05:25] explores AI power type A suggestions
[05:27] while writing. Okay, so I'm going to
[05:29] need an API key for this. To do that,
[05:32] I'm going to open up
[05:35] one password
[05:39] in a separate window so that you all
[05:41] can't steal my keys.
[05:47] Okay, so it doesn't seem to store it.
[05:49] That's great.
[05:51] So, let's save that. Obviously, it's
[05:52] storing it locally. Don't want to save
[05:54] it
[05:57] before you experiment. I can't spell
[05:58] experiments properly the first time. I
[06:01] wish node would create a game that plays
[06:04] when dependencies
[06:07] because it often takes while that's
[06:09] doing its thing. It's funny because it
[06:11] doesn't the model obviously has no
[06:12] context about the abilities API which is
[06:15] normal because the ability API is so
[06:16] new. It's a powerful tool for developers
[06:18] to interact
[06:23] with the data stored on websites
[06:24] enabling seamless integration and
[06:26] flexibility. Custom endpoints can be
[06:28] added to extend this functionality
[06:29] further.
[06:31] Now it is also possible to enable
[06:40] it for custom post types and tax.
[06:43] Maybe
[06:45] I would have assumed that the bot would
[06:47] be trained on
[06:50] what would be interesting
[06:54] is
[06:56] to
[07:00] to use my local model provider thingy
[07:03] and hook it up with a a model that is
[07:04] designed for coding
[07:06] and see whether that could be do a
[07:08] better job. It's a support. it's an
[07:09] assistant and that's what how I frame it
[07:11] all the time.
[07:15] Open claw is a great example is use it
[07:17] as an assistant. Don't allow it full
[07:19] access to all the things. I keep coming
[07:20] around back around to that sort of
[07:23] mindset around this is it is something
[07:26] that can support your work but you still
[07:28] need to have an actor brain that knows
[07:31] what's going on to be able to do the
[07:33] hard work. It's not as smooth as
[07:34] autocomplete I'm used to when going
[07:36] exactly. I use writing tools to generate
[07:38] paragraphs and then I edit them and
[07:40] rewrite them and restructure them. But
[07:42] they give me a good place to start. I
[07:44] would love to test more of these, but I
[07:46] really couldn't be bothered with pulling
[07:47] down PR. So, I'm not going to worry
[07:48] about that now. So, that's where I'm
[07:50] going to call it for today, folks. Thank
[07:52] you for engaging,
[07:53] and I will see you around social media
[07:56] and all those other places. Have a good
[07:58] weekend. Bye.
