The missing context crisis occurs when decision-making happens in private channels, depriving AI of necessary historical context for future contributions. Information silos limit AI agent accessibility to corporate resources, creating process bottlenecks. Document format chaos, particularly prevalent in Asian regions using Excel and PowerPoint for specifications, makes content incomprehensible to AI systems that work better with text-oriented formats like markdown. The standardization dilemma emerges because AI learns from open source code following established standards, but struggles with proprietary company formats. Finally, quality assurance bottlenecks arise when AI generates thousands of lines of code that humans cannot review at the same pace, requiring robust InnerSource practices to ensure code quality and prevent wheel reinvention. ## ๐Ÿ—’๏ธ Notes #### โฑ๏ธ [00:00](https://youtu.be/cGpZtYiJKkI?t=0) โ€” [H1] AI Summit Context and Five Critical Challenges - Key idea: Multiple AI-related sessions across global InnerSource Summit locations indicate widespread corporate AI adoption struggles - Evidence: "Throughout the summit from Tokyo Berlin to New York there are so many AI related sessions available" #### โฑ๏ธ [01:15](https://youtu.be/cGpZtYiJKkI?t=75) โ€” [H2] Missing Context Crisis Definition - Key idea: AI requires transparent decision-making history but companies conduct decisions in private channels - Evidence: "Decision making process was missing... So coincidentally actually in
[00:14] this summit global summit uh from Tokyo
[00:17] Berlin to New York there are so many AI
[00:21] related
[00:22] um sessions available. So AI is very hot
[00:28] topic right now but actually so many
[00:31] companies are struggling to adopt how to
[00:34] do that adopt AI and then I'm
[00:36] considering how to do that. So I will
[00:39] bring five points here. So throughout
[00:43] the summit uh I strongly recommend that
[00:47] you will try to relate those idea to
[00:50] your corporate um culture or processes
[00:54] or your corporate AI adoption. So there
[00:58] are five critical organizational
[01:00] challenges regarding AI adoption
[01:03] especially for um
[01:07] AI adoption in engineering. So first one
[01:10] is missing context crisis and second one
[01:14] uh information silo problem document
[01:16] format chaos standardization dilemma and
[01:20] quality assurance bottleneck.
[01:23] Yep.
[01:26] So first um missing context crisis.
[01:31] So what does it mean?
[01:33] So actually
[01:35] people
[01:36] engineering team are trying to give AI
[01:40] so many context on your editor or maybe
[01:43] on your repositories decision making or
[01:46] even in a powerpoint or word Excel
[01:50] but actually they're missing context why
[01:53] that happened and a reason that happened
[01:56] and then probably your decision making
[01:59] has been done in a very closed area
[02:02] closed osed uh channel. For instance, if
[02:05] you are starting uh private Slack
[02:07] channel or maybe private teams channel,
[02:10] your decision making process was
[02:12] missing.
[02:14] But actually it makes AI
[02:17] very difficult to contribute to your uh
[02:20] project as well. So those kind of AI
[02:23] needs history,
[02:25] decision making history because um
[02:28] probably in two years or three years um
[02:32] AI will contribute to your decision
[02:34] making as well. So in that way
[02:38] AI will need to know about the how the
[02:41] decision was made. So actually inner
[02:44] source practices open up your decision
[02:47] making process and make it transparent
[02:49] and also brewing the transparent culture
[02:53] to capture information is very uh
[02:56] essential for that area
[03:00] and second one is information silo
[03:03] problem. So this is all about
[03:05] accessibility.
[03:07] So so many company try to build their
[03:10] agents right? So probably your uh
[03:12] companies also trying to build your
[03:14] agents for your corporate resources for
[03:16] your processes. However,
[03:19] I see so many cases where only several
[03:22] objectives are covered uh by agent
[03:26] probably is tiny gray piece of paper in
[03:29] the process. However,
[03:32] maybe your company's business leader
[03:35] will need more need to uh they are
[03:39] wanting to interact more wanting AI to
[03:42] interact more the processes. So in that
[03:45] way accessibility matters because um if
[03:49] your resource is not accessible by AI
[03:52] you will always be a bottleneck of the
[03:55] decision making or maybe the processes
[03:58] but actually if AI can access so many
[04:00] information available so AI will done
[04:04] autonomously more so in that way it's
[04:07] not about the configuration but the
[04:09] culture and decision making culture and
[04:11] accessibility based on that culture and
[04:14] a processes. So brewing in um culture
[04:18] will contribute that area
[04:22] and document format chaos. So especially
[04:25] in Asian region we are building so many
[04:28] spec documentation with Excel and
[04:30] PowerPoint but actually Excel and
[04:32] PowerPoint is just a XM comp compilation
[04:36] of XML and object file right like images
[04:40] and it doesn't make any sense for AI. So
[04:43] in that way it's better for everybody
[04:46] including AI to see or maybe um build
[04:50] their documentation with maybe markdown
[04:54] format or maybe tex oriented format. In
[04:57] that way
[04:59] probably you and we need to deal with
[05:02] how to build documentation and a
[05:04] documentation culture. So some old folks
[05:08] or seasoned engineer try to compile
[05:12] their information on Excel or PowerPoint
[05:15] and it's okay. So those tools are very
[05:19] awesome tool. However, at the same time,
[05:21] if you want to feed your contents to AI,
[05:25] you will consider you will need to
[05:26] consider to feed the information uh on
[05:30] probably GitHub, GitLab and those uh
[05:33] places.
[05:36] And
[05:38] next one is standardization dilemma. So,
[05:42] so many company claim that AI doesn't
[05:46] know about my source code, right?
[05:50] So actually of course that's the reason
[05:53] uh there is a reason because um AI learn
[05:56] how to code by reading the source code
[06:01] in open source. So but actually how open
[06:05] source people are building their
[06:06] software across the world is to align
[06:11] with the various startup format. For
[06:13] instance, if you are write writing
[06:15] Python code, maybe PEP 8 is the standard
[06:19] code and also if you are a Java
[06:21] programmer,
[06:23] maybe Java style guide by Google and
[06:26] Oracle might be the standard one. So
[06:30] actually um it's very hard for AI to
[06:32] understand the proprietary dedicated
[06:35] some company format but actually it's
[06:39] time to align the more standardized way.
[06:43] So in that way brewing opensource
[06:46] culture and brewing opensource style
[06:49] open source like style uh coding style
[06:52] guide um make much more sense for AI and
[06:56] then for AI collaboration those kind of
[06:58] inner source collaboration and even
[07:00] inside the company opensource culture
[07:02] brewing and engineering processes and a
[07:04] style guide is very beneficial for AI
[07:09] and finally quality assurance botonic
[07:12] So it's very important topics. So inner
[07:16] source is not about culture is
[07:17] engineering processes as well. So so
[07:21] many people claim that oh AI can
[07:25] generate so many code or um but actually
[07:28] we are we cannot really uh review that
[07:31] code because um AI can generate uh
[07:35] hundred of thousand lines of code
[07:37] instantly. However, our human beings
[07:41] cannot review that code instantly and it
[07:44] takes one hour or two hour to review
[07:46] just 400 lines of code sometimes. So in
[07:49] that way
[07:52] our inner source practices is very
[07:54] important to assure quality of the code
[07:58] because um inner source is essentially
[08:01] sharing code inside the company and try
[08:05] to let them use their code inside in a
[08:10] very collaborative way which is which
[08:14] means you need to be sure the tool is
[08:18] not reinvented
[08:20] and then actually we are ready to share
[08:23] your source code as well and inner
[08:26] source practice is very beneficial to uh
[08:30] secure your quality assured code inside
[08:32] the company. So quality assured code is
[08:35] something hard for AI to generate. So AI
[08:38] can generate the test code but who write
[08:40] test code right? So in that way people
[08:44] needs to learn how to secure your code,
[08:47] how to assure your code quality and how
[08:50] to share that high quality code inside
[08:53] the company to prevent from reinvent the
[08:57] whale from the AI. Yeah, probably you
[09:01] experienced that AI will reinvent the
[09:05] wheel, reinvent the source code in even
[09:07] inside a one single simple repository.
[09:10] They are scattered so many same code in
[09:13] a different uh location in a different
[09:15] directory. So it's very hard to review
[09:18] that code and it's hard to maintain the
[09:20] code we uh if once it's happened. So
[09:24] inner source is very great way to make
[09:27] sure your code is uh quality assured and
[09:32] secured.
[09:34] So key takeaways uh inner source commons
[09:38] is a great community and then there's a
[09:40] reason why you um join us and inner
[09:45] source is the thing in AI era and let's
[09:49] do it in opensource way.
[09:52] So that's my session and be innosource
[09:55] is my message and then I introduce
[09:58] several key points related to AI. So
[10:01] please try to relate those topics to
[10:04] every session I mean in uh in summit
[10:09] 2025.
[10:11] Happy Nus day. Thank you very much.
