Anyone with an internet connection and a hosting provider can publish a WordPress site and their ideas to the world. We condemn attempts to undermine free speech that is objectively true but downright uncomfortable for some. News is news, and whether you want it published or not, no one has a right to dictate what another may publish. The answer is to publish your own response. ([View Tweet](https://twitter.com/AspirePressOrg/status/1850294031986888798)) - This is somewhat related, and somewhat not. We're excited to see progress being made on mirroring efforts. There's a long way to go still. First party distribution, validation and verification of security, secure signing, distribution, distributed systems, and federation are all unsolved. We're happy to contribute any expertise or knowledge we have, and we have been in contact with [DustinSnider](https://twitter.com/DustinSnider) and his group. We're aware of, support, and encourage their work. And we'll likely look to them as a more reliable source of truth than .org. But our work continues. And they know that, accept that, and encoruage that, as far as we are aware. There is a big sandbox, and lots of us have to play in it for everyone to win. We'd like to hear from you and compile a list on our site and feature you! Reach out via our website; our DMs are open! ([View Tweet](https://twitter.com/AspirePressOrg/status/1850096963477192815)) - Finally, we are dismayed at the myriad of alternative solutions that have emerged in the ecosystem to update plugins. We invite plugin owners who have written such systems to join us in developing a common tool, so that there is consistency again. ([View Tweet](https://twitter.com/AspirePressOrg/status/1851397823855497252)) - We believe that plugins remain the property of their authors, regardless of license. We will not distribute plugins from individuals who request they be removed, and we will not fork plugins. ([View Tweet](https://twitter.com/AspirePressOrg/status/1851397496381071796)) - We are working to achieve first party plugin distribution. We also firmly believe that a plugin author should be able to have their code separate from the distribution channels. And we will not serve misappropriated versions of any plugins. ([View Tweet](https://twitter.com/AspirePressOrg/status/1851395467562926276)) - We’re concerned about reports of misappropriation of plugins (or threats to do so) in WordPress. The GPL explicitly permits forking. It does not permit using the same slug, which in the WP ecosystem is like a domain name. It should not be misappropriated.
