- Once mirrors of the repo and APIs go live, the quality of Automattic’s data quickly drops. They won’t have full visibility on sites using WP, which sites use which plugins or themes, etc. it’s a huge loss of info for them. ([View Tweet](https://twitter.com/DuaneStorey/status/1850244520698626520))
- Interesting post from Reddit about #WordPress. While the number of absolute WordPress installs are going up, the percentage of the top 1 million websites using WordPress has been declining since 2022.

- I wrote a plugin last night and this morning to strip out the personal information (your site) from outbound #WordPress requests using the internal API. If any devs want to do a quick sanity check that this works on their machines, I would appreciate it.

- Just released version 1.0.1 of my new #WordPress privacy plugin. This version strips out data sent to https://t.co/45GRHH9HOe for plugins that are hosted off-site. Currently https://t.co/rGVHjymQgW receives information about every plugin on your system, including "private" and off-site ones.
At this point, I'm only looking for devs to install this and help flush it out. But if you don't mind doing some testing, I'd appreciate it. I'm going to keep adding some privacy options over the next few days to limit that amount of data leakage that seems to be happening with a default install.
You can find the plugin here if you want to test it out:

- If you have any plugins or themes you self-host on Github that you want included in the new repo I've been building, you can install Juniper/Author and simply click "Submit To Mirror" in the admin panel. That's mostly it.

- Here is the Juniper/Server self-hosted plugin repository code. Feel free to follow along for updates, or if you're adventurous, to install a copy on a basic Apache or Nginx server with PHP. Instructions are in the readme on how to setup a mirror.

- Here is the trac ticket where WordPress removed signature signing from core updates. Not that it matters so much, since the feature was basically broken since launched in 2019. Five years to get this working, and it seems they effective gave up in June.

- https://t.co/mflNNfHytR, the home of Nick Hamze, who wrote the post on .org about weird themes. Writing a post on WPE that Matt re-shares. I think modifying website copy when you receive a C&D order is just an attempt to keep the peace. Let the courts decide further. https://t.co/orlhL8RWKQ

- Did you know #WordPress exposes all your users via the WP API? I've never understood why, it seems like it's just giving hackers more info about logins. For example, if we look at Matt's site, we can see 4 users: A8C, saxmatt (him), Otto, and a designer

- @lelandf @UnderstandDev @BillOfWonder @photomatt Linux had a post a few years ago saying the danger with having one corporate entity control the TM for an open source project, which is exactly what is the situation with WP. It can lead, and has lead, to abuse by this one corporate entity, which is the nature of the lawsuit. ([View Tweet](https://twitter.com/DuaneStorey/status/1888636052534878436))
- @lelandf @UnderstandDev @BillOfWonder @photomatt The TM example with Rails is a good exmaple. You seem to be making a point, but to me it's the opposite. The WP Foundation owns the TM but assigned all rights to A8C. Rails TM is opened by DHH, but he assigned all rights to his non profit. Which is more open and fair? - I spent time deep diving the WordPress HTTP/updates API months ago. It was surprisingly more difficult to swap it out than I expected. I wondered at the time if in a future version of #WordPress if they would remove these hooks/transports entirely, making it almost impossible https://t.co/K8gZgCknm9 ([View Tweet](https://twitter.com/DuaneStorey/status/1931313255353348126))
- @jessuppi @jdevalk @rmccue Why do you always distill everything into left and right? I understand objections about the infrastructure but who cares who part of the political spectrum people fall on? I don’t think anybody on the project is out clubbing seals at night. - I still don’t know why people are attending or organizing WordCamps at this point. Do a barcamp, or a blog camp, any grass roots type event. Why do you want to have this oversight and overreach? I organized three WordCamps and gave up trying to do the 4th due to all the red tape https://t.co/FXd2YV4T9Y ([View Tweet](https://twitter.com/DuaneStorey/status/1935319225641418970))

- The comment on this post at the bottom is characteristic I think of the sentiment of many people. I got rid of WordPress after they tried to take over ACF. At some point you have to ask yourself what are your ideals and who or what businesses do you want to support.

- @Rarst Agree.. Also, who decides what is a contribution (we know the answer). Like ACF and Local by Flywheel were two pretty big contributions, and yet they arbitrarily didn't count. Basically only things A8C wanted were included. Stupid. ([View Tweet](https://x.com/DuaneStorey/status/2045081868710695362))

- Apparently the judge in the WPE case is no longer messing around with Matt. His side has failed to provide many communications, and some platforms with disappearing messages seemed to have been used after the order to preserve documents.

- This is basically the end of the case I think. Matt just sunk it, and basically admitted on record for a bunch of stuff the other party has been trying to get clarified. Two hours before the hearing.
I have a running AI with the entire case in it, it said this is catastrophic. https://t.co/JKdQpmcDNX ([View Tweet](https://x.com/DuaneStorey/status/2059724261338521882))

- Looks like Automattic’s entire legal team is trying to quit? I’m not sure what these means. The error is a court annotation I think. Did the court reject it? How does one accidentally quit their own case en masse. Weird given the timing. Is this what set off the board issue the https://t.co/d5SzOkmJrn
